👍👍 i visited kounter for lunch today and had a great meal. i ordered the og chx sandwich which was good - not necessarily a showstopper, but it was tasty, portion size was good, and i was happy for the price. i would like to have seen a little more sauce on it, maybe more directly on the chicken itself... i visited kounter for lunch today and had a great meal. i ordered the og chx sandwich which was good - not necessarily a showstopper, but it was tasty, portion size was good, and i was happy for the price. i would like to have seen a little more sauce on it, maybe more directly on the chicken itself, and because there wasn’t much sauce on the sandwich once you actually get into it, (and the bread is quite thick) it was a bit of a dry mouthful. that said, the brussel sprouts truly stole the show. these babies are magnificent. perfectly charred and seasoned, beautiful texture and flavor. the pepper drops are the icing on the cake - perfect bright and fresh pop to lighten the brussels. i did not order a dessert, but i watched the bartender plate one and it was so lovely looking that i wished it was mine! the staff were also a 5 star experience providing wonderful service. will definitely visit again next time I’m in rock hill!

Great Saturday night date experience. 1. Located on Main St in Rock Hill, this is a very nice area. There is parking along Main Street and in the lots behind the buildings directly across from Kounter. There is also a parking deck located near the restaurant. 2. The dining room is small but comfortable. It's modern and bright while also having a nostalgic feel. My only complaint is that it can get very loud, very quickly. 3. The dress is casual. You can wear whatever you're comfortable in. However, the menu and the food made us feel like we should dress a little nicer. 4. Our server was very kind and did a good job of making sure we had everything we needed. We tried the sticky chicken. It was really tasty with a bit of spice and it came with rice. However, it came with a chicken leg and a few other pieces that looked like the chicken back. I would have preferred other cuts of chicken. We also had the chicken and waffle sushi. It was delicious! We tried the parmesan and rosemary fries. They came with a malt vinegar and ketchup sauce that was amazing. The last thing we had was the salmon. It was cooked perfectly and the potatoes we seasoned well. It was a super enjoyable experience and we cleaned our plates. 5. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. However, I don't think my kids would enjoy this place. It seems to be more of a place for adults.

Without a doubt, one of the best dinning experiences. The menu is vibrant and creative. Every dish tasted better than the previous and the other way around (if that makes sense). Every ingredient was fresh and their team very friendly and attentive.

Top notch date night. Kounter is simply a dive in downtown Rock Hill. The food was a step above. Compliments to the chef. You have created beautiful masterpieces. We can’t say enough wonderful things about the food & presentation! Jamie, our server, was attentive, professional, & made sure to answer all our questions to point us in the right direction for a delicious meal. We will definitely go back. smokes tuna poke chili & garlic shrimp lobster gnocchi seared steak peanut butter pie

Traveling through Rock Hill we discovered this yummy spot! Kounter is fairly small and has a casual atmosphere. Our server was very attentive and nice and the food was fabulous!! The scallops were cooked perfectly. The menu is creative and different and the food was very well prepared. To get the most of the flavors I recommend getting several appetizers as your meal and definitely get the Totchos! We had a great casual date night! If you struggle hearing it may be a little bit of a challenge to carry on conversation. The nature of the building makes it a little loud. Over all we had a great experience and would highly recommend Kounter.

*disclaimer - we didn’t say anything to the server about our meal, they might have made some adjustments..so don’t hold that against them. Kounter- where civil rights history was made. Cozy cafe in the heart of downtown Rock Hill. This restaurant front was the site if the Rock Hill 9. See photo for info. In town for a basketball tourney, we stopped in for brunch. Yummy and creative menu options, tasty coffee. The score came from the room temp coffee and my overcooked poached egg that tasted like vinegar. We didn’t have time to stay, had to get back to the gym. Service was great!

Make a res if you can for tables, but there’s plenty of seats around the bar. Food is creative, quirky and delicious. House focaccia with the hummus goes crazy! Chicken cake stand sliders probably good for like 2 people. Good cocktails and great service; It’s so nice to have a place like Kounter in Rock Hill.

We didn’t plan this visit. Instead of having dinner in Charlotte, we decided to cross into South Carolina, and found ourselves in downtown Rock Hill. At a local bakery, we began to ask questions about restaurants in the area & after looking at the menu, we decided we needed to try this place. There is a historical aspect to the counter at Kounter & it’s my understanding that during segregation, young African American students sat at the counter and staged a sit-in and refused to leave after being denied service. The sit-in movement actually began at a Woolworth in Greensboro, NC but the movement soon spread to college towns throughout the South. Connected to the building right outside is the Jail, No Bail exhibit. You can learn more about it. As sad as it makes us, it is the way it was. Someone was quite genius in planning this restaurant, to incorporate the history into a dining experience is incredibly innovative! I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anything like this. To actually learn about history that took place at a building long ago and experience amazing cuisine is extraordinary. Now, about the Food! Our server Emily was very sweet & helpful with the menu. My husband and I “loved”the Lobster Gnocchi, the Crab dip & the Caesar salad. Seriously, as a top Google Guide I have been a guest at many restaurants, everything we ordered exceeded our expectations, it was all delish!

We celebrated my birthday at Kounter today and it was a great time! There was a birthday message written on a card at our reserved table when we arrived....such a thoughtful gesture. For starters, my cocktail was strong, but very good! I cannot remember the name of my drink, but it had a frozen ice cube with a rose inside of it in the drink. We tried various appetizers; my favorites were the smoking tuna poke, crab dip and totchos! Everything sounded yummy on the dinner menu, so the four of us ordered different entrees: salmon, lobster gnocchi, seared scallops, spaghetti o's meatballs and crab cakes. The salmon, crab cakes, and spaghetti o's we're all big hits. However, the scallops and lobster gnocchi fell a little short for us. I was told that the scallops were bland and the lobster in the lobster gnocchi was not seasoned at all. Our waitress, Jamie, was very helpful with suggestions and had an overall wonderful personality. We also enjoyed the tour of the adjacent mini museum that highlighted significant moments in black history. I am already planning to bring my family back to try more menu items that sounded interesting and to experience the mini museum. YY thanks you Jamie, and cudos to the chef(s) for making my birthday such a memorable one!

I'll return. They have a very unique menu. The service and drinks were exceptional. My wife didn't like her original dish and they accommodated her immediately.

The restaurant went out of their way to accommodate the dietary restrictions we had, and they did it without making us feel like we were being difficult. Our server Shelby was exceptional and very friendly. We highly recommend this very cute and cozy place and we’ll definitely be back.

👍👍 Food is amazing! Great portions and it’s very homey. The restaurant itself is very old. a lot of the locals go there so that’s a plus. The staff is very sweet as well. I would definitely come back for takeout!
