Its incredible that you can view these beautiful birds up close and personal. Sitting on there nest high on the cliff tops they leave me speechless. Nature is amazing and worth protecting for the future generations to enjoy. Beautiful walk to view points.. can be a bit smelling with these little birds

This place is a picturesque beach located within a short distance from Auckland City. I love its close proximity, making it easily accessible. It boasts ample parking spaces and offers breathtaking scenery. It's an ideal spot for both fishing and surfing, which I thoroughly enjoy. The presence of a nearby cafe adds to its charm and convenience.

Last day in NZ spent here. Photos and videos don't do this place justice. Truly beautiful spot to visit + bathrooms available too

Nice windy time. The Gannett colony lookout might be closed but the Kuku(green-lipped mussels) pond made up for lovely beach stroll. I'm just not sure if it's safe to eat these mussels (AKL sinkhole-sewage leak still not fixed<) Beautiful rock formations in cove too.

One of my favourite places to go in Auckland. Great drive out there and magnificent views and such a cool place to spend time watching the gannets. Plenty of parking and the tracks are in great condition. I also love watching the sun set and enjoying a picnic dinner whilst there.

The Muriwai Gannet Colony in New Zealand is a truly mesmerizing natural attraction. With its stunning coastal location on the North Island, it offers a unique opportunity to witness thousands of gannets in their natural habitat. The colony's accessibility is a major plus; you can easily reach the viewing platforms, which provide excellent vantage points to observe these magnificent seabirds. Watching the gannets soar through the air and interact with each other is a memorable experience. The rugged coastal scenery surrounding the colony adds to its appeal, making it a great spot for photography and nature enthusiasts. It's also worth noting that the views of the Tasman Sea are breathtaking. However, to make the most of your visit, it's advisable to go during the breeding season (typically from August to March), when the gannets are most active and you can witness their courtship rituals and chicks. It's essential to respect the conservation efforts in place and stay on designated paths to protect the birds and their nesting areas. Overall, the Muriwai Gannet Colony is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in wildlife and natural beauty, offering a captivating experience that's both educational and visually stunning. Best photospot for cosmic sea waves

Love our Auckland's west coach beaches. Muriwai beach is a great spot for taking photos. Not many gannets left at the moment (May). Most of the gannets took off to Australia, but will be back. It's also great to watch the surf and surfers. I'll be back ❀

You must visit this place at least once in your lifetime. It's gorgeous on a clear day but equally stunning when it's grey and moody. It's an easy walk up to the colony from the carpark end, no need for trekking boots. I visited at the end of Jan and again today (1 week later). In a week a lot of gannets have left but still plenty raising chicks. Ideal time to visit would be in the month of January. I've attached pictures taken on a clear day and grey day taken a week a part.

Gannets are seabirds, and there are many of them gathered and nesting here. It's a beautiful view, and with the ocean wind and sunlight, you can enjoy some quiet time in nature. I was there in December and it's a beautiful place to visit.

Really neat spot to see many families of birds. Plenty of opportunities to take photos and the walk up to the lookout doesn't take too long. Plenty of space to view the birds, and good parking below. Well worth the visit

A chance to get up close and personal with Gannets at Muriwai. Great location, beach, tracks and views. The Gannets had chicks in various stages from fledgling to ready to fly.

Amazing spot to view gannets up close! Have been in December when gannets where looking after their chicks. It is only a short walk from the car park, very accessible for most people. However, car park was very busy during summer holiday season and we had to wait a bit for a spot to become available. Definitely recommend driving out there for the gannets in nesting season.

Absolutely beautiful. Stunning views of the sweeping beach, steep cliffs, and rolling waves. Parking is ample, however access to the beach is steep and the path is not suitable for most wheelchairs etc. Often has a stiff breeze blowing inland, which provides a pretty good location for paragliders and the like. Definitely worth the slightly longer drive, very unique.

This is a great place to see the albatross from very close and a couple of meters away from the car park. It will probably be one of the easiest and fastest chances to see these birds at such a short distance. The area and closeby beach were also nice. Highly recommended. We also saw them nesting and with their little ones since we were there in December.

It's a stunning place with a view of the sea and gannet colonies. A must-visit location for those who love birds and nature. Please make sure to go at the right time as they migrate to Australia.

Always a beautiful place to visit. I frequent this place most days. If you are sensitive to smell, don't go on a windy day

Amazing experience, there were hundreds of birds nesting on their eggs, got the chance to see them up close as well as the colony stretches all the way to the walkway.

Amazing and unique experience of a lifetime. It is possible to get up close and personal with the gannets (without touching them). I can see this being great for kids.

Was awesome to see this Gannett colony. So cool to see the mates greet each other when one returns to the nest. Did you know...The birds return from Australia each year during the months of July and October to establish contact again with their lifelong mates.

Easy circuit walk. 3 different viewing platforms for getting up close to the stinky gems. Highly recommended taking the return journey through the Māori/Maukatia Bay track. The green is wonderful & the cicadas noise is next level!
