So it's kind of underwhelming here. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool place, and the architecture is gorgeous, but it's not a place to enjoy being a long time. There are tourists all over everything. You might get hassled for money or trinkets. The best way to visit is to arrive very early or enjoy the church at the top of the steps.

Another place in Rome worth seeing. The charming streets leading to the stairs are full of boutiques of the most eminent fashion houses. You can see that it is a very rich and expensive part of the city. The attraction itself is interesting, very well kept. Clean, despite the large number of tourists. It is worth paying attention to local traders who want to sell small gifts - I advise you not to, waste of money and their stories about the family, copy the sales manual. There is a beautiful view of the old town from the top. I recommend it and I'll be back there again.

Wow, there were so many people it was almost claustrophobic. It is a beautiful area and the steps and church were really cool. But be prepared to push your was through all the people as they enjoy the scenery. It is definitely worth visiting. I counted 180 steps to the top where a beautiful church awaits.

If you’re a history buff it’s cool. Considered the widest and longest staircase of Europe. I read that you will get a fine for sitting on the steps. There were officers out there. It’s hot out there on a sunny day with no shade. There was some people at the top of the stairs selling water.

The famous steps, many tourists were relieving their tired legs. I was told there is a fine for taking food on the steps, but I saw many people were eating even though police were next to them. 😵‍💫 So crowded but so beautiful steps.

The Spanish Steps in Rome have good views for the top and there's an elevator you can take up there as well which might be part of the train station. It is very crowded in decent weather but worth having a look. We bought a lovely painting from the one of the artists that gather to sell their works. Definitely worth checking out as you can see the Vatican and other major sites from the top and great exercise too. I would not write that it is top 5 things to do in Rome but maybe in top 15!

I visited during October and despite the slight rain, it was lovely because there was less of a crowd. The steps were a little slippery due to the rain so be careful. This gets 4 stars because I know it is lovely and historic, but it was a bit underwhelming in person. It looks very beautiful in photos and in films and it’s still beautiful in person don’t get me wrong, but everything is absolutely stunning in Europe and this in comparison felt underwhelming a bit.

So heres the deal...yes, the Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna) are a beautiful piece of history and worth a visit while in Rome. But the governments actions to restrict people form sitting on the stairs and enjoying the view, to me, takes away some of the appeal. I remember coming here when the steps were lined with flowers and life. Now if you sit at all, within a few minutes an officer will blow his whistle and require you to vacate (or get fined).

The Spanish Steps in Rome, even in the brisk month of February, exude a vibrant charm that magnetically draws visitors from around the globe. This iconic monument, a grand cascade of Baroque artistry, offers a picturesque backdrop that seems to capture the very essence of Rome's eternal allure. Despite the cool weather, the steps buzz with the energy of tourists, each eager to partake in the shared experience of marveling at this architectural wonder. The abundance of visitors adds a lively atmosphere to the place, making it feel like a cosmopolitan meeting point where cultures converge. The steps, flanked by the stunning Trinità dei Monti church at the top and the bustling Piazza di Spagna at the base, offer not just a historic journey through Rome's artistic heritage but also a unique opportunity to observe the lively, ever-changing tapestry of people that give the city its soul. Standing on the steps, surrounded by the excited chatter of tourists and the majestic beauty of Rome, one can truly appreciate the timeless appeal of this monument. It's a vivid reminder of how beauty and history can bring together people from all walks of life, making the Spanish Steps a must-visit destination that enriches the Roman experience, even amidst the crowds of February.

Tons of people. It is overcrowded. Everyone wanted to visit this beautiful place and take pictures. You can’t take pictures without people in the background. The staircases are beautiful. The church on top of the steps are magnificent. It is a must-see place when you visit Rome.

A beautiful historical and religious location. You are no longer allowed to sit on the steps leading up to the church. You can be fined 400 euros. There are Italian Police who monitor the steps to keep the steps for tourists. There are no fees or cost to visit this location and church. Bring walking shoes and a camera.

This area is a bustling area. If you are looking for lively spaces, this is for you! There are also several steps to get to the obelisk and church, which i enjoyed climbing. It may not be friendly for wheelchair use or if you have trouble walking. Great views at the top, though!

Great place and so unique HOWEVER I rate it 1 star only to bring attention to the POLICE that is forcing people and visitors not to sit on the steps. When I asked the reason they answered this is because it’s a holy place and you’re not allowed to sit on a holy place! I visited the Roman time 13 years ago and these steps were full of people having a good time and enjoying their trip to Rome. it’s so unfortunate that now the government in Rome or Italy has decided to go back to dark ages and enforce stupid ideological and religious Christian Catholic church propaganda. Who knows the reason could be because cafés and restaurant businesses around the place have lobbied with the government and use this stupid religious excuse to force the people to sit in their shops Instead of resting on the Spanish Steps. Anyway, just sorry for the tourists who look for having a bit of rest and contemplation on these beautiful steps.

It's one of those.... Have to tick of the list places. Whilst out running with a local I asked him to take me here as I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It's lovely with some lovely views but not something I'd make a special trip out to see again. If close by, come and see them, be ready for a climb!

Such a lovely place, the flowers make the steps look so wonderful. It is really crowded during the day, especially after 11 so I recommend visiting it before to enjoy the view.

This is a must see while visiting Rome. It is in the top 5 places to visit while visiting Rome. They are very busy here all the time but well worth the visit. I would highly recommend a visit here. Remember you cannot sit on the steps and eat food the police will issue fines to tourists who ignore the local regulations. Respecting the area is nice photographs and moving on.

Visited in February they were so picturesque and perfect. A beautiful site in Rome to visit on any day. The steps are majestic and are a symbol of Rome itself. Perfect to visit in the morning time around sunrise, they are less busy and more elegant. Perfect spot for a quick snack on the steps. Beautiful in the winter time and very clean. Highly recommend if you’re visiting the city, it’s an important point of interest for any novel traveller.

We decided to walk up the Spanish Steps instead of down when we could. We might have to walk down next time when we're here again! Lol 😆 It was not too bad because the view was so beautiful and we had to stop many times to take pictures on the way walking up. It makes it much easier to handle. The views in the middle of the steps and all the way to the top are definitely different. Make sure you have to walk at least one time in your life if you are here.

A nice view of the Piazza, and the building at the top of the stairs. I would recommend driving early (if you want privacy), or during sunset (great view from the top). Be careful about sitting around the stairs, there are police that patrol and tell people to get off. Also watch out for tourist traps.

We visited during Christmas and it was very well lit. It was too crowded so we recommend visiting this place early morning if you want to click good pictures and enjoy the scenic view of this place. There's no entry fees for the same. Make sure not to consume food or beverage sitting on the steps as you might get a fine for the same.

Another iconic landmark which has to be seen when in Rome, but densely crowded unless you're an early riser. The steps were covered in flowers in April which made it even prettier but for me, the best view was from the top and watching the sunset over the City. Don't be tempted to sit on the steps as you could face a hefty fine if caught. There was a rooftop bar opposite the church at the top if you want to relax & take in the atmosphere but unsurprisingly there was a queue to enter so would be worth trying to book in advance (if possible).

Nice ambience. We were there on evening to see sunset and did not regret it . Vatican View was awesome from Top but you have to find a spot for you as it gets crowded in evening. Beware of Bracelet scammers on the top side.

I have visited Spanish steps during Italian Bank Holiday in August. My first visit was at night, which I enjoyed it as wasn't too busy and crowded like during the day. The Spanish steps are well lit around so can walk to the top and back. At the top there is a small monument with church across. The views from the top are great. If you're visiting during the day be prepared to face the crowd. Beautiful square surrounded by luxury fashion brands for those who want to indulge in shopping after.

I like to visit this place whenever I'm walking around. It's a great place where to relax or just sit with friends around. There is a bunch of local gelato sellers and with the ice cream in the hand is a day always even better. From the top of the stairs is good view of the close surrounding so it's always worth climbing to the top of it🚁 Thank you

The Spanish Steps, a nice place to relax, listen to music and be in you own thoughts. This is one of many tourist attractions around Rome and one of the most famous in the world. The Spanish Steps can be very crowed at times but in evening is best for me because of the sunset and being able to overlook the city. There is a Metro station at the top of the Spanish Steps called Spagna, so you don’t have to walk too fall to get here. Word of caution, you will find many street vendors in the area and they will be very persistent and put their wares in your face. Just keep moving, don’t engage them in any way and definitely do not accept flowers from them, they are NOT free no matter how charming the vendor may seem as if they’re giving them as a gift to you.

Its not that hard yo walk up these steps if you take it easy. great views at mid point and the top. Should be full of flowers now, just buds in late April. At the top there us a nice restaurant to have a drink or eat. You do not have to walk back down the steps there us a side street that cars take and also pedestrians.

When I first heard of this, I was worried I'd be overwhelmed by the massive amounts of stair climbing this landmark would require. I'm happy to report this is a very accessible sight-seeing destination that's worth your while. The sights are beautiful, the Christmas decorations are eye-catching, the stairs are a short and easy climb. And the history of it really makes it worth seeing in-person.

We had a great time. We spent a few nights there now enjoying the culture and people. Last night local musicians came out and played for hours. It was like an old fashioned campfire sing along event. I wish I could share videos on here so you could enjoy the experience.

The Spanish Steps in Rome offer a charming and picturesque setting, with a sweeping staircase leading to the Trinità dei Monti church. The steps are a popular spot to relax, people-watch, and enjoy the cityscape. During the spring, the vibrant display of azaleas adds to the allure. While it may not be a historical monument like the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps exude a unique charm and are a delightful stop for those exploring the historic heart of Rome.

"🇮🇹✨ The Spanish Steps: A Roman Stairway to Heaven ✨🇮🇹 Ascend the Spanish Steps and immerse yourself in the beauty of Rome. This iconic staircase, designed by Francesco de Sanctis and completed in 1725, is a symbol of elegance and grandeur. Marvel at the sweeping views of the city from the top of the steps, where you can see the Trinità dei Monti church and the bustling Piazza di Spagna below. Take a moment to soak in the vibrant atmosphere, as locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy the beauty of this historic landmark. For an extra special experience, visit the Spanish Steps around sunset to witness the stunning views of the Rome skyline as the city lights up

Awesome! After number of kilometers of walking in streets of Roma with minimal elevation difference this was refreshing to experience. Relatively small fountain in the base of the staircase, but of course very nice. The whole is a must to see, for sure.

beautiful steps, beautiful vibes, and a great view from above!! it wasn’t super crowded when I visited it last Thursday at 9:00 am. it was so beautiful and we took so many pictures. the fountain had roses thrown in it, not a very polite behavior of whoever threw them, but honestly it made it more aesthetic lol.

It's worth visiting this piece of history and even walking up the 135 steps! It’s not as bad as you think… free entry… loads of luxury brand outlet nearby … Good food place nearby too. It’s crowded so recommend going early morning

Iconic Roman public space, very atmospheric and still bustling at night. Don't miss the views from the top, and the haven of peace and beauty that is the silent Trinità dei Monti church at the summit the Steps.

This site was both visually appealing and very scenic. There were a lot of people coming through this site, which actually added to the experience. If you climb to the top of the steps, you can get a real sense of the spot from a top down view. We were lucky enough to be there mid day, so the sun was at its highest.

Interesting landmark to see while in Rome. You can climb the 135 steps to the church and from there you will have the ability to see the picturesque view of the Rome. However I would recommend to come earlier because in the middle of the day the steps get very crowded

I have been to the Spanish steps in Rome and I can say that it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The architecture is so intricate and detailed, it's hard to believe that it was built centuries ago. It's a must-see for anyone who visits Rome!

What a beautiful vibes here! 😊 Real sparkling Italian atmosphere. That many young people who gather here and give a special energy to the place. I just loved sitting here and enjoying this atmosphere. Last but not least, the part behind the stairs is also beautiful 😍 If you are here, you should buy a cup of coffee and sit down on this stairs and just enjoy every moment 😊

Such a signature landmark and it would be a great spot to chill but due to the crowd it is not really possible. Eitherway I suggest to come early morning (before 7) or late night it is much more enjoyable and definitely worth a visit.

Of course we had to see them on our trip. It was a Monday, so not too many people compared to some of the other attractions. The stairs are only for walking on, you are not allowed to sit.

It is beautiful staircase with great photo opportunities. A lot of people will be here. It is just a staircase, so don’t expect to use a lot of time here. But still worth a visit, as it is a very iconic and famous place for Rome.

Great fun seeing one of the famous landmarks in Rome. Got some great pictures with not to many people around at the peak time (15:30) definitely recommend going earlier if you want just a photo of you and the steps. You were allowed to stop on the steps just not sit down as the police will move you off.

I think they get their name from the nearby, well protected Spanish embassy. They are mightily impressive though and when you arrive at the bottom the vista just opens out in front of you. There is a lovely sunken water feature at the bottom, so done apparently to accommodate the low water pressure. Although it was a boiling hot day, we walked up the steps, that are very "shiny" and slippery, be warned. When you make the top you are rewarded with lovely views. More steps take you into a lovely church at the very top, that it worth a visit, if only to cool down! We steadily made our way down, dodging the people illegally sitting on the steps, apparently shouldn't be done. Safely at the bottom there are many shops to explore, it is a lovely area to see. The is a famous tea room at the bottom, typically closed on the day of our visit. Recommend though.

Spanish steps are one of the most famous stairs in the world, so you definitely can't miss them while in Rome. In front of the steps is Rome's luxury street (street full of luxury brand stores). This monument wasn't as crowded as one would have expected, you may be even able to take a photo without people everywhere around you (this won't happen at other Rome's monuments). Keep in mind that it's prohibited to sit on the stairs.

  • 5/5 Nestor R. 6 months ago on Google
Free to visit. I recommend going really early in the morning to get the best pictures. Also, please be respectful and don’t sit on the stairs or eat at the stairs. It is a beautiful landmark that needs to be preserved

Very pretty view point. I think the picture beside the fountain is better than above the stairs. The church wasn’t that exciting except the one piece of art in it. No dress code required. Definitely visit it

Nice place, not exactly the stairs but whole place. You can see lots of nice buildings. There is also Subway on the top of the stairs and you can use elevator. The only one was disadvantage was so many people everywhere but it was not that horrible. The place is very clean and safe.

We went here for New Years Eve/NY and it was such a great time. Sadly it got really foggy before the fireworks so the video isn’t great. Still a great place to be in Rome if you come for New Years you’ll see all the city fireworks (as long as its not foggy). I didn’t take the best photos because I focused on videos but I have 2 that were okay.

The iconic tourist destination in Rome. Definitely a scenic spot to take a stroll and simply enjoy the atmosphere of it’s surroundings. I visited the spot at close to 9pm, and still it was quite crowded from the top to the bottom of the steps. I would suggest visiting the area very early in the morning for a lesser crowd.

  • 5/5 Amol K. 8 months ago on Google
The Spanish steps have been climbed by many but do go on top and take in the views. Go in the morning as it less crowded, allowing you take pictures even in peak season. Thr church itself is beautiful and had the pleasure of attending the sermon. The views from the top are good too.

The iconic Spanish Steps is a very nice place to visit. Easy to get to coming from the Line A Metro Spagna station. Great place for photos especially in the early morning when there are less people. Which leads to my only gripe… the steps can get pretty busy with lots & lots of people.
