Definitely worth a visit to this beautiful statue. To get to Bocca della Verità you first have to pass through a beautiful church. The employees are very friendly and make sure everything runs smoothly. The myth behind the statue is special: Put the hand in the mouth, tell something and the mouth of truth judges whether you have told the truth. I still have all my 10 fingers!

The legend lives on and still gets the interest of all those who visits Rome. For me, i got inspired to visit this place when i saw the movie of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck-Roman Holiday. True or not, the legend says if you are not telling the truth, your hands will be cut when you put inside the mouth. Well, my hands were not bitten or cut because i am telling you the truth, this place is famous, the church inside is small but solemn. And no fee to try to cut your hands. Go to this popular place and get the experience. 5 stars!

Mouth of truth is a best place to see If you are in Rome this is one of must to visit places. The energy in the crypt under the church is the most powerful. By the way, Basilica di Santa Maria in Ara coeli is one of the oldest in Rome and has the highest tower, about 40 meters. It’s funny to stick hands on statue

The best time to visit is early or late when there are few people during the week. Weekends tend to be packed and there's a line from morning till closing time at 5:50 PM. It is one of the wonderful treats of Rome and like many other things it is absolutely free. Yay Roma. If you watch the preview for Roman Holiday the film with Gregory Peck and

This place is one of the legendary places in the world for me. Of course, this is largely due to the unforgettable masterpiece of William Wyler. I am about immortal Roman Holiday (1953). This movie is completely brilliant. This unique stone mask is made of marble and was probably brought here from the ancient temple of Hercules, a magnificent and very beautiful temple, which is located opposite. I am extremely glad that we finally visited this place. Here you can also buy numerous souvenirs.

Free entry, but unnecessarily long queue. You can see it and take a picture from the outside too, so if you are not into a common picture, it could be a swift visit.

Responded adequately to the request of COVID-19 situations; you sterilize first then put your hands into the mouth! Taking the distance from other visitors is expected. These are by far decent levels of operations compared with other historical sites. I like that stuff.

Interesting place. But there is a queue, always. A queue to touch this rock lid and make a photo with it. I suppose it is much faster to make just a photo of this monument through the bars. It will save your time.

Interactive art at its best! Are you a liar? It's time we find out. The World needs to know. And after you're put to the test, you can tour the church and wash yourself of the sins assuming you didn't pass the test.

Legend has it that the mask will bite off the hand of any liar that sticks their hand inside! There was a queue when I went, but no more than 15 min. It's siituated in the portico of Santa Maria in Cosmedin Church

Must see attraction in Rome. No tickets required, just a generous donation to the church the mouth is next to. I put my hand in and it wasn't chopped off which was a relief as I planned to propose to my girlfriend shortly after (which would have been awkward missing a hand).

Nice place. Unfortunately any photo with the mouth of truth does really ruin the whole feeling. The queue was fast and bearable.

Great place to visit. It’s free but you were able to leave a donation. We recommend that you do because the staff is very attentive there’s even a lady that stands offering to take pictures of you while you put your hand in the mouth. Afterwards you can visit the Basilica or church as well.

Quick fun picture opportunity. There is even staff there to take the picture. Just have a few coins for the donation box. Enjoy!

The church was pretty and the hand of truth was fun to stick my hand in the mouth of truth. The reason for the four star rating is do to the line.

Cool and famous sculpture. Only a short wait to get your picture in front of it. The church was cool but a bit creepy. It has the remains of St. Valentine. But, they have a basement and to see it, a man demanded an offering. This did not feel right to me. But, the basement was cool.

When we looked it up on google it said it was open so we walked a good 30mns to go see the mouth of truth but when we got there it was closed, bummer. We were able to see it through the gate though, which was cool that it wasn’t a complete waste of time . The area is very interesting to explore. Many ancient ruins to see.

The guardian of trustful Google reviews. But of fun, wouldn’t wait the long queues though. Took a snap on the side

It’s fun to see people talking pictures, and some pretending they were bitten. Crowds were under control by the staff and kept moving. Church is beautiful. A nice place to light candles and pray for our world.

Free and fabulous! For a small donation you can visit the underground crypt. Easily accessible and lovely surroundings.

Very interesting attraction in Rome! The myth surrounding it is that if you stick your hand inside the mouth and tell a lie, you will lose your hand! The entrance is free, and there is usually a pretty big line, but it moves at a decent pace. I would say that it’s worth it to check it out.

Wonderful Experience at the Mouth of Truth - Quick and Friendly Service! Quickest way to feel Rome! I had the pleasure of visiting the Mouth of Truth recently and was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Luck was on my side as there were only a few people in line, and my wait time was a mere 5 minutes! The staff there were exceptionally kind and helpful. They willingly took photos for us, capturing some truly great pictures that we will cherish forever. Their friendly approach and eagerness to assist made the visit even more memorable. It's not just the iconic site itself that made my visit special, but the warm and welcoming service provided by the staff. I highly recommend visiting the Mouth of Truth for an enjoyable and hassle-free experience.

Our waiter was Turin Mahmood, and he was really friendly. I would recommend getting the salmon dish. We really liked the tiramisu and cream dessert which they light on fire!

Nice place, you can take a picture for free..came in right Time and waited Just for few minutes, after pic you have to go inside the church which is really nice. Without rude tourists would be better as we were in the church with some,,ladies,, Who were really loud and just sit there looking at the pictures on the phone..and the guards had to tell them to be quite..remember and respect that you are at holy place and read the signs!

It's free to visit and there's even someone there to take a photo of you with your phone. For free, of course. Nice little stop in Rome, it's worth visiting because it is in the proximity of the other must see sites. There was a queue, but it moved reasonably fast. Make sure you are not a liar before putting your hand in the mouth :)

When in Rome this spot deairves a visit. No fee, visit the church as well and Adrian's catacombs. There might be appreciated a donation.

After a day of wandering, we went to see this site. It was surrounded by other ancient treasures. It was fun to see. If you get there after closing, you can still see it, just not close.

  • 5/5 Jim C. 10 months ago on Google
This is definitely worth the walk. It is a great photo opportunity. It is kind of near the Colosseum and near the bridge to Trastevere. I think that taking the short detour to get here is worth it.

  • 5/5 Katie S. 11 months ago on Google
If you have time, I would suggest stopping by. Line moves fast and there is no fee to enter. Try sticking your hand in and see if anything happens! Also, there is a beautiful church you can enter after taking your photos with La Bocca Della Verità.

A small sightseeing place, probably need to line up for 5-10 min. The staff was nice and help me took my picture.

Unforgettable Roman Holiday movie with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. That's why 58 years ago my mother gave me that name ...

  • 3/5 Kamil J. 1 year ago on Google
Visit it only if you are already nearby. There are lots of more interesting places in Rome and this is just a big face, that's all. Not even a beautiful sculpture. People are waiting in line just because it's popular.

  • 4/5 Julieyoumean 2 years ago on Google
It made me smile to see people having fun posing for their photos. Pleasant staff members thete despite the level of crowdness. But the line was way too long and it did not give the same or even similar vibe (as a result, the look) to what I've seen in the movie Roman Holiday.

  • 5/5 Kate M. 1 year ago on Google
Very cool thing to see. There was quite a big line when we got there (around midday) so we just took some photos through the fence rather than wait. You can still see it fine and from quite close, you're just looking at it from an angle rather than straight on.

  • 2/5 Lachkick 4. 2 years ago on Google
May be the most entertaining attraction in Rome but unfortunately it was closed the time i went there. Only could take a photo through the fence. Even at 11pm there were others at this touristic hotspot

one of the most iconic places in Rome. The church where the "mouth of truth" is located is very old, and hosts the relics of Saint Valentine, the saint of Lovers.

There's a scene from a movie filmed here that became famous. It was a little fun.

Hehe I love this one, its from my one most favorite retro film, where plays Odrey. You must put your hand inside it

A neat place to see. The Church and crypt are a lot better than just the statue
