When you visit Rome there is so much to see & do,there are so many beautiful fountains this being one of them it’s the fountain of Neptune he stands proudly in the centre surrounded by other sculptures...It was designed by Giacomo Della Porta in 1574 the other remaining Sculpture’s were added 300 years later,it was finally completed in 1878 & that is how you see it present day....Rome is a photographers paradise with something to photograph around every corner.....We absolutely love this place & definitely want to return to take in what we have missed.....Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer....❤️👍

The fountain is so nice, it was once called "Fontana dei Calderari" because it was located close to a small alley with blacksmith's workshops, makers of pots and pans and of other metal based businesses, all of them generating heat.

I like this fountain even more than the Trevi Fountain because it's still beautiful, and there are fewer people around.

Located in the beautiful Piazza Navona, this fountain is one of three that can be viewed here. The god Neptune in all of his glory riding seahorses while nymphs and cherubs attend him. Well worth a visit, and if you like sculpture, this is definitely one to see.

Beautiful 16th century fountain and statues added later. Early morning the piazza is virtually empty and sometimes there is fantastic light for photography.

The place of beauty and fountains! Wow the art and influence of Egyptian art has taking a whole new aspect here! Every carved statue has the beauty of perfection. Its overall built structure really gives the surrounding buildings the true Italian flare. Great to take pictures and enjoy the sunset while eating some icecream. I would call this a picture perfect place especially for that portrait you've always wanted

First fountain we saw in Rome and it was a great start! The Piazza is simple with plenty of things to do within just a few minutes of walking and the best part is the gorgeous fountain.

The best place to sit. I mean, all piazzas in Rome are extraordinary, but Navona is the biggeat with the most hotels and trattorias, you will definitely find a place to sit and reat after a long walk! Enjoy!

Very beautiful and big square. The fountains are amazing peaces of art. It's stunning to look at. It was very crowded when we were there around 13:00. There are also a lot of street vendors trying to sell you anything from umbrellas to bracelets. Quite hard to stay out of their way.

A beautiful piazza in Rome with a wonderful white marble monument of Neptune. It is beautiful to view and a site to behold. The piazza itself is very wonderful with many monuments and statues to allure.

As big Percy Jackson fans my boys couldn’t pass up an opportunity to see Poseidon (Neptune). This whole square is magical especially over the Christmas holidays. To see more of our family travel around the world feel free to take a peek at our IG @thewatkinsteam

Across Piazza Navona from the Fountain of Four Rivers sits the Fontana dei Nettano. Giacomo della Porta created its basin in 1574 for Pope Gregory XIII. Antonio della Bitta, added the Neptune fighting with an octopus.sculpture in 1878 to balance with La Fontana del Moro.

Sadly it was raining, but it was nice to see. It’s free and not too far away from the Vatican (that’s by bus of course)

Definitely stop to appreciate the sculptures in this fountain if you're in the Piazza Navona. But I would not make a separate trip across the city to see this fountain on its own, without all that Piazza Navona has to offer. The location is a wonderful place to sit and people-watch.

Just an amazing fountain, went twice on our holiday, in the day and the night to see it lit up. Pleasure to sit and listen and look at it. Patience is good if you want a pic round the edge, most people are good and helpful to take pictures of each others groups. Local police are there to watch no one goes too close or on it.

One of the three fountains in Piazza Navona, Neptune's Fountain is dated back in the 1500s, but the actual statues were commisioned in late 1800s. You can see the god Neptune battling with a giant octopus using his trident.

One of the three fountains on piazza Navona, the is the only one not done by the artist Bernini but by Giacomo de la Porta 1547

Fountain of Neptune, 1574 by Giacomo della Porta, Antonio Della Bitta, Gregorio Zappalà The basin of the Fontana del Nettuno, (without the sculptures), was designed in 1574 by Giacomo Della Porta. It was sponsored by pope Gregory XIII. For the next 300 years, the fountain survived without statues. The fountain as it exists today was finally completed in 1878 by Antonio Della Bitta, who added the imposing sculpture of Neptune fighting with an octopus, and Gregorio Zappalà, who created the other sculptures, based on the mythological theme of the "Nereids with Cupids and walruses".

What to say, enchanting. The square itself is magnificent and the fountain is the spell of construction. Gian Lorenzo Bernini built the fountains in Piazza Navona and portrayed the romantic side of sculpture in the Baroque period. The fountain of the four rivers is a magnificent fountain built during Pope Inocent X. On one of the most beautiful Roman squares - Piazza Navona. The obelisk, which is part of the fountain, is decorated with a papin coat of arms and a dove with an olive branch. Four giants represent the four great rivers - Ganges, Dunav, Nile and Rio de la Plata. Very exciting, worth visiting.

visited Feb 2022 Nice little fountain in the city. There's not much to say about this fountain, as it's about the same as most other fountain piazzas. It's a great place to meet, rest, eat, or just hang out and watch the city. Would visit again.
