I’ve been doing BJJ on and off since 2002. I’ve been to many gyms over the years, with varying degrees of quality and professionalism. PMAA is by far the best. The curriculum is well thought out and relevant, with clear expectations on the students. The kids class is very strong, and has produced some super tough competitors. Ryan’s technical level is high, with an emphasis on concepts and small details (the stuff that actually allows BJJ to work against a resisting opponent). Personally, my technical skill has greatly improved since I joined, and all the credit goes to PMAA. I would not hesitate to recommend PMAA to both experienced athletes and beginners alike.

If you are new or experienced to Brazillian Jiu Jitsu (bjj), this academy/ studio provides a top tier learning and social environment. At the high level, there are active bjj competitors, but mostly this academy is filled with those looking to practice a gentle martial art with others and perform physical exercise. As a side note, Ryan Cunningham and his coach Ben Baxter are highly accomplished national champions in bjj and closely connected to Ciao Terra perhaps the greatest rooster weight bjj competitor of all time. This adds credibility to the effectiveness of the instruction as not all bjj schools are taught by national champions. Try this academy out if you want to increase total body strength, make friends in the area, improve bjj and/or learn the philosophy of the gentlest martial art.

Ryan is by far the best Judo and Jujitsu instructor in Douglas County. I have been able to compare and contrast with the other dojo in town. Hands down, the skill set, experience, instructors and the students level of understanding and the practicality of Ryan’s program will better suit you in REAL LIFE scenario in my opinion. This dojo is also very practical on cost and affordable! Thanks Ryan for always having your door open! Scott

Ryan is very knowledgeable owner and coach. He is detailed and loves what he does! I would choose no one else in town to train my son. Ryan is a recognized black belt and between the Roseburg and Eugene locations, teaches several of the kids classes himself. He places a high priority on the kids' safety and gives them opportunities to compete without pressuring them to do so! Our experience was #1!

My son Atreyu has been taking classes from Ryan for about three months now and it is by far his favorite thing to do. Coach Ryan is amazing with the kids both professional and patient. My son really looks up to him. His wife Julie is just a doll and I love how she greets us when she is here. Very clean establishment with amazingly friendly people. 10 out of 10 would recommend to family and friends. -Michelle Wright

All of the instructors and coaches at Performance Martial Arts Academy are professional, well trained, great role models, and you can tell that they love the kids and love being there. They aren’t just in it for the sport aspect of it either, they truly want to help develop well-rounded people who grow into well-rounded adults.

Ryan and Julie have created a family friendly environment at the academy. My 3 kids who are all at different levels look forward to coming to train. Ryan and his team do a good job teaching all levels.
