A
first-class
National
Trust
property.
Very
well
managed.
The
cafe
has
the
usual
Mational
Trust
good
fare.
Baked
potatoes
are
a
specialty.
In
the
summer,
there
are
lots
of
wasps,
so
best
sit
inside.
The
house
is
stunning
inside.
There
was
a
very
knowledgeable
Dutch
docent
who
will
add
quite
a
few
interesting
stories
about
Rudyard
Kipling
and
the
house.
The
gardens
are
attractive.
The
whole
place
can
be
visited
in
60
to
90
minutes.
There
is
a
charge
for
parking
foe
non
NT
members.
Advertised
are
four
walks
in
the
woods
and
fields
around
the
estate.
I
would
not
recommend
them
as
they
are
poorly
signposted,
not
well
maintained
(brambles
and
nettles),
and
usually
very
muddy.
To
be
recommended
is
the
old
mill,
which
is
authentic.
Unfortunately,
this
one
is
non
working.
However,
it
is
well
restored.
The
staff
obviously
care
a
lot
about
the
house
and
gardens,
and
you
get
that
feeling
a
lot.
