Beautiful Tudor house that you can walk around. Gardens are the most spectacular example of planting you will ever see. The wildflower meadows that provide a calmer contrast are full of orchids and gladioli at this time if year. Bees love it and so will you. Superb plant nursery and small but delightful cafe selling all you need to fuel another walk round the planting. You have to visit

Wonderful mid-week visit. We were really impressed with the planting and variety in the gardens. Really beautiful flowers and plants, colours were rich and stunning, and gardens were incredibly well-kept and presented. Highly recommended.

The perfect English garden full of colour.beauty and sweet scented air. No sign of any gardeners. It was total perfection. Very reasonably priced little cafe. Loved the gift shop too.

I’d been wanting to visit this place for a long time and it really exceeded expectations. All staff were friendly and welcoming and clearly love the place. The house is delightful and i especially liked the scrap books about how it was developed with notes and letters between client and architect. Lutyens was a genius! The gardens were in full bloom and we were stunned by the height of the planting - quite thrilling, especially the walled area to the right of the house front. Wonderful lunch at the cafeteria too - we ate far too much as it all looked so good that we couldn’t choose. A great day out - thank you.

A good day but a little disappointed. We should have checked in advance but we had hoped to see more of the house, though there were lovely guides in the open parts. One even showed one of our group a special photo album as she could not get upstairs to view. Our other disappointments were the catering and the accessibility. The cafe area was outside with just a roof over, not a problem. However there were so many wasps and one completely useless balloon-type 'scarer' that did nothing at all to deter the wasps. Two of our party ate cake, which was OK for price and tasted delicious. Hot drinks were a very good price but a bag of crisps was £1.50, no consistency. The only food offerings were a 'cream tea' ( just the scone, no drink with it) or 4 different but very small platters including one of just salad leaves, all priced at £11.50 each, a price not everyoneccan afford. One of the photos above shows a shot of the good options. Accessibility- we were handed a paper map/plan and the accessible route was marked however we couldn't really find it until we accidentally happened to exit a door at the end, that was the Accessible touted. It would be helpful for the ticket booth to judicature this especially as one of our party had a very obvious wheeled walker! Finally, we were grateful to use our Gardener's World 2 for 1 tickets so hence only paid £7.50 each for entry, however each pair was handed 2 tickets-one marked 'paid' and one 'free'. Having handed these over at the house entrance, we felt 'identified' rather as poor families historically were identified as having free school meals. I guess it just irked me as I feel it was unnecessary.

Absolutely idyllic gardens, everywhere you look there is a perfectly framed picture of beauty. The buildings are a beautiful backdrop, but the gardens are the star. The Solar garden was my personal favourite. The house visit only took 10 mins to see the two impressive rooms available, but the gardens are worth a couple of hours. Some parts would be pretty tricky for those less mobile but an adventure for those able to push through dense planting. Good tea room with plenty of seating.

Beautiful gardens and quite extraordinary house - well worth a day trip out of London although it’s hard to see how the gardens can be accessed other than by car. The house consists of 3 separate sections. The first is the original medieval farmhouse which can be visited. The second section is another farmhouse which was moved to the location and the third is an extension which unifies the whole and which was designed by Lutyens. Unfortunately unless granted special access the Lutyens wing cannot be visited. The gardens are extraordinary - the head gardener having gone for a mix of planning and wildness - so wild that some parts are inaccessible through overgrowth!

Wow! It might be the best garden I've ever seen. It is filled with a huge variety of plants that are mingled together in a haphazard wild way, which I loved. It definitely not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchair users, as the paths barely fit a person and the many steps up and around, seem like a labyrinth. The small cafe at the far end of the garden served lovely food and coffee. It also has all compostable foodwares, which I greatly appreciated. Plus, the plants for sale were fantastic and reasonable priced. I will definitely be returning. P.s. the paths in the photos were of the few larger paths, I didn't take photos of the rest.

Splendid house and gardens. The gardens are densely planted with many different plants, including some you would not expect to live in our climate. The plants are broadly separated into themes. Some of the paths are quite narrow, allowing really close contact with the plants. There's more to see than just the plants, examples of sawn timber in the barn, for instance...

So beautiful! The house is lovely and has great history and guides inside, but the gardens...😍 We could've wandered all day, enjoying each variety of dahlia, peeking through the arched hedges and sniffing flowers. We went in the fall but it was still very beautiful. Can't imagine what it's like in the spring! Additionally, the shop and cafe were beautiful! Just got drinks at the cafe, but the baked goods and food menu looked great.

I’ve been coming to this garden for over 25 years! It’s always a joyful experience. It’s far less primped than it used to be and the jungle garden is still stunning. Every boarder and bed even in mid September is a riot of colour and texture. The cafe is excellent serving delicious homemade food and locally sourced produce. There is a lovely circular walk nearby too.

Amazing flowers and bedding. I'm not a gardener but it blew me away. House also interesting. Very compact compared to most gardens so not much walking to see it all. A laid back and informal vibe in general. Not wheelchair friendly. August is likely to be the best time to visit as many of the plants flower then.

Beautiful garden Really packed with plants and colour A feeling of wilderness tamed with just enough structure and manicured form to remind you that it's been crafted by hard working hands . A real labyrinth of a garden . Treasures abound.

Interesting house and beautiful gardens. A comfortable size to walk around. Not wheelchair/buggy friendly at this time of year though. The staff do warn you of this.

Great Dixter is looking stunning right now, due to the varied summer we've had. Gardens packed with gorgeous plants and full of interest, lits if hidden nooks and crannies a delightful and fascinating house and helpful, knowledgeable volunteers ...what more could you want? The cafe is fine though I felt the garden salad could have been more flavoursome and interesting and included a few tomatoes or something. Prices are a bit high. The shop is also a little disappointing, High prices apart from the seeds. The nursery is great, with extremely well priced, healthy plants and a huge range. A real go to place for your garden Great Dixter is one of the great gardens of England.
