Unforgettable immersion in the Maori culture. A visual arts display with beautifully choreographed danced ands songs, impressive haka. All accompanied with a commentary by the chief. The meal was delicious. Our guide, John, was extremely witty and greeted everyone in their own language (impressive!). He also knows the culture and history of the tribe in depth, answering all kind of questions. Not to be missed!

A once in a lifetime experience. An evening of wholesome food, cultural learning and being entertained. The tribe are so welcoming and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend this experience. (* for anyone looking this information, there is parking; you do go for a short walk around the village in the dark so wear comfortable shoes and a coat if it's cold. Inside there are fires and heaters so it's very warm!) If you aren't sure whether to book this experience or not...BOOK it, you'll love it!!

What an experience we had visiting Mitai Maori Village. The performance was magnificent, the food (hangi) was superb, and the atmosphere was great. The whole experience was wonderful, and walking the night to see glowworms was beautiful. A visit not to be missed when you are in the area, booking may be required.

This was possibly the most enjoyable evening for the whole family on this holiday. The hosts were there to assist, the cultural performance was second to none and to cap it off the food was to die for. I would highly recommend any family to attend. The highlight for me, I think, apart from the food, was the warriors paddling up the creek under flaming torch light, with easy viewing for everyone.

A must see in Rotorua, one of the best experiences to get some understanding of Maori culture, lots of food cooked underground ,lots of entertainment, traditional dances and ceremonies including the haka, the host was amazing and answered dozens of questions thrown at him. Do not hesitate to book! And book early it's a very in demand activity

One of the best experiences I have had so far. Our MC/Guide was fantastic! Full of knowledge and humour. The performance was thoroughly enjoyable with songs, stories and dance. The food was to die for and there was plenty to around- no one could say they were hungry by the time they left. My only fault was being able to hear the MC in the far corner table 21. The sound was hard to hear clearly at times. No reason to lose a star though.

This was a great experience. Highly recommend! This is a family owned business. They gave a lot of information about the Māori culture. The demonstrations were amazing and the food was good. You could also do a little bush walk after and learn about the trees, houses and see some glow worms. Everyone was kind and welcoming.

100% recommend this place as somewhere to visit. Jason was an exceptional host! You literally felt like apart of the family when you entered! Performances were incredible and so professional! As an Aussie I can’t believe how little I knew about the cousins across the ditch! Food was unbelievable, Jason answered all questions which was awesome because we had a few! The whole experience was just fantastic! Go here you won’t regret it.

The experience was so much fun! I also had a hāngi dinner and it was delicious. I would come again. All the people were evidently very engaged and involved with their culture, as well as having fun. This honestly felt like more than just an insight, but a welcoming into Maori culture.

Mitai Māori Village is an immersive and captivating experience that beautifully showcases Māori culture. The host was entertaining, professional, and seriously enthusiastic about sharing his culture with audience members. He answered all our questions with comedic timing and made the whole experience way more fun. The cultural aspect kicked off with performers greeting us on a canoe on a nearby river, which led to a detailed performance under a covered auditorium which included a large set. Following the entertainment, we indulged in a traditional hangi feast, which included lots of meats, potatoes, stuffing, some vegetables and seafood. Once we were full, we took part in the glow worm viewing. Mitai Māori Village makes visitors feel a genuine connection to New Zealand's rich heritage and is recommended for anyone seeking an authentic encounter.

Another great attraction to see.You are shown some interesting insights into their culture, which is wonderful to see. You won't go hungry. There is plenty of food to choose from as well as dessert. There is a question and answer segment after dinner with the family member who was our host for the night. He gave us more insight into the Maori past as well as his family's past. He was great. All the family are wonderful and give you a fantastic night.

I've been to several Hawaiian luaus and expected something similar. The only thing that's similar is the food being cooked in the ground. The whole production was excellent. You first walk to the sacred stream where you witness a warrior boat embarking to war. Then a short review of how the food is prepared. You feast - and there is a LOT of food. You are then led into a theater where the tribe performs a welcoming ceremony that's pretty intense. Song and dance ensued. Finishing off the evening is a walk through the same area where you will see some glow worms.

An absolute dream. Ethereal, surreal, scintillating, spiritual and all feelings in between. Culturally quenched and grateful to have experienced Maori history on NYE with family around. Meticulously put together, the experience encapsulates their history, including live performances, haka, food, life today & fun facts we never knew of. A MUST DO for anyone visiting New Zealand. It's their zealous energy that is infectious and reminds us of the beauty this country holds.

A great experience and absolutely beautiful food. Mitai village is an excellent night, starting with introductions in the eating and bar area and processing onto a very informative tour around the grounds, including warriors in full dress floating in a warrior canoe down the stream in front of you in full voice, a brilliant show within a very detailed traditional village set up followed by an absolutely delicious Hangi meal including lamb, chicken, chocolate pudding and chocolate log for dessert and ending the night with a further tour around the tracks and freshwater spring, explaining the traditional significance of the trees and plants and viewing the huge population of glow worms.

What a wonderful cultural experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the presentations and discussions. The evening experience with dinner was very good. The food was delicious and conversation with new acquaintances was delightful. The hosts shared much about their culture and the music and warrior demonstrations were done well. We enjoyed seeing the canoe rowing as well as the nature walk with glow worms. The Māori are wonderful people with insights and beliefs that would be good for the world to consider. I recommend attending one of their events.n

Great night . Have been to previous Maori concerts in Rotorua but this is the best. Staff were really friendly and informative, meal was good and plenty available for the big eaters, fantastic hospitality. Had a few laughs whilst learning a little about the maori culture as well. Would highly recommend.

The performance and the lesson on Maori culture and traditions were amazing. The hangi food was delicious. A really welcoming team running this site. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening, and one of us even got to be the 'chief' for the evening. Something he is insisting we continue to call him...We were sat with other tourists, which was nice to talk about each others travels through New Zealand. The experience is about 3 hours long and well worth a visit.

Probably one of the best experiences in New Zealand so far. A good Māori meal cooked in a fire pit with a educational introduction to their unique culture. Served natural spring water on site and viewed glow worms after dusk too. The performances were excellent although I felt the whole experience was more commercial than I expected.

Cool cultural experience with a lot of information. Parking was crazy, so getting out at the end took a bit. I believe they had a special event in addition to the (probably) 200 people doing the tour. It ran smoother than I expected, honestly, considering how many people were there! Everyone was very nice, food was good.

Incredible, inspiring and just beautiful. My hubby our two kids and myself absolutely can’t describe how amazing this experience was. From all the traditional/war dancers, the cultural information, interactive from the very beginning and everyone is so so friendly! On top of that the food (OMG) amazing I wish I could give them 10 stars! It’s an absolute MUST do and I would go back in a heartbeat thank you for educating us and sharing your beautiful culture!

Awesome Maori experience. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a Hangi meal and the Mauri performances on stage were so good. I left that night feeling that I know the Mauri culture so much better than when I entered.

I don’t understand the overpriced comments, $225 for 2 adults! We got taught something about Māori culture and looks to be a very family run business! They were very open about it being a show and wanting to teach us a little about their people and land! The food was VERY good! Lamb was outstanding… we were there for 3 hours eating, talking, watching, walking, I don’t think you can ask for more at just over $100 a head! I would only say the small downside is the smoke from the open fire! We had to wash everything we had on but I’d take that as a downside ANYDAY and would do it again tomorrow!

We really enjoyed our evening at the Mitai Maori Village! It is very well organized and the surrounding is really nice. The show is great, as is the dinner (with surprisingly good lamb and deserts). The people are very friendly and it is a great way to learn more about Maori culture. We were really disappointed not to do the little trek after the dinner (but that was because the path had become dangerous following a storm the night before, so out of their control) Highly recommended.

Tonight we shared a beautiful cultural experience and dinner with the family who run Mitai. The food was wholesome and tasty, and reminded me of our Maori neighbours growing up who’d invite us over for family bbq time… the show was spectacular with so much heart, soul, history and love. The family who run this experience are very hospitable and put a lot of effort in to make sure their guests are looked after.. we felt at home. We are very pleased to have purchased tickets and attend the show. Thank you
