One of the most amazing forests I've seen located within a city! Plenty of activity here, such as mountain biking and walking tracks. If you go through the vistors center there is a tree top walk and flying fox which you can pay and enter. Everything else is free and there's plenty of parking. Walking tracks start from the visitors center, take the red track for a quick 30min walk. Amazing place to visit both during the day and at night. Walking tracks can be seen in my photos.

This is one beautiful forest with plenty of large majestic trees. I could spend all day soaking up the scenery. There is one set of toilets at the front entrance along with a small shop. I wouldn't recommend use of wheelchairs or strollers as the tree roots are everywhere! There are horses around the tracks which is great to see and loads of mountain bike riders. You can opt to take a short track which is good for small children (follow the signs) will be coming back for sure!

Such a cool place to explore. We always come here when we visit Rotorua. Its a great spot to visit with friends or family. The views of the trees are amazing. An awesome experience.

We went for a hike and took the Pohaturoa track (yellow arrows) which took us a little over 2 hours. The trail had many beautiful lookouts facing both the mountains and the lake, and many photo opportunities amongst the trees. The first part of the route is mostly under the open sky, and the latter part being covered in the forest. The track itself was relatively smooth; easy to intermediate in difficulty. I would highly recommend this track to anyone who loves nature to experience these trails for themselves!

Well this has to be one of NZ’s best kept secrets. We took the 30 minute walk experience - so lovely & not a “hard” walk at all. We went during the day so we could experience the walk but the nighttime tree walk is also very special

Lots of different walks. 30mins, 1hr, 1.5hrs. 3hours and more ! Lovely forest. The 1hr+ ones have a bit of a hill, so you have to be reasonably fit.

The giant redwoods are good and vast, but the advertising was deceitful. It was advertised as free, but to go on the treetop walk, there was a charge of 21 NZD! Unexpected surprise. Even the gift store was rather expensive for souvenirs. Go there and walk around the forest for free.

Beautiful environment, the tree walk is quite fun albeit a little on the pricey side. Plenty of natural waling paths through the forest. Highly recommend.

KiaOra. Truly awesome place to be. Surrounded by huge and colossal trees makes you feel like a hobbit. All the reddish ambience makes it out of this world feeling (photos dont justify. Be there to experience it) And it is free unless taking the treewalk. Would return again to try out other tracks. Enjoy!

Really good experience. Those redwoods look amazing in the rain. It’s a bit pricey, but where else can you have an experience like this? Would recommend. I’d go again for the night experience.

Must do in the evening when the sun has set, the forest is lit up like a Christmas tree and is spectacular to see. Day tours are also available. Buy a ticket that allows you to do both.

Magical day and night. I arrived 5 39 so bought night ticket which started at 6 15. But as you only pay for tree walk was able to see trees from ground on one of the public tracks. So saw forest in day and night. Magical both times of the day.

This is an absolute must see experience. Bring a decent pair of boots/shoes and walk the various number of walking tracks available. No words can describe the absolute beauty of the Whakarewarewa Forest. Toilet facilities and parking are available onsite and there is a gift store where the staff are very helpful.

You just can't go wrong coming here. Sure it gets a bit busy sometimes but walking among these giant trees and the cool fresh air is always worth it. They have various clearly marked tracks with different difficulty levels ranging from 30mins to 3.5hrs, from comfy family walk to some fairly steep walks Can also grab a nice coffee at the end or even do some of the awesome canopy walks

Great place for spending a few hours with family. You can choose to take the ground track for free, or tree top path if you pay. The bridges have plenty of of connection points and relatively high walls, therefore they feel safe even though they’re suspended bridges and wobbly. The parking lots inside are limited, but there’s a lot of parking spots along the road outside.

It was really such a nice walk in the redwoods forest that you will feel to remain there forever. We took 1 hr track which is blue one. You have the option to take three walk which we will plan in night time later but overall it was a wonderful break in Rotorua. Would love to visit again anytime.

My boyfriend and I went did the walk during the day & night. Really peaceful during the day & serene. But you really need to see it at night. Absolutely stunning. Gorgeous lights. Gets busy at night so be prepared to wait in queue.

Love this place. My 2 girls (5 and 12) love playing and going on the walks. My husband and eldest go on some of the bike tracks and as a family we really enjoyed the treetops walk. Great place for walking, running, riding or picnics 👌💜

Love the redwoods. A definitely must go attraction. Bring your gear to jog in the woods! The night walk should not be missed as well.
