Staff is super welcoming and friendly and helpful. They have discounts for activities and they can book activities for you. The rooms are small but secure. The rooms and the bed sheets are clean. The matresses are old. You can hear the street noise, but it is not too loud. It is a central place. To the supermarket 2 min, to the lake 10 min, city centre 5 min. The bathrooms are old and the water pressure was bad, but it was clean. We stayed one night here in a double room. We recommend this place.

Worst hostel! It’s really filthy and not well maintained! But this is not the major issue with this hostel! If you book there you should know- that there are residents living that are homeless and have social and mental problems- you are going to share all facilities! My friend and I booked 2 nights in a dorm. In the first night we heard people yelling, shouting and fighting was the entire night. In the second night a residential woman slept in our dorm. In the middle of the night she startet to have loud and aggressive sex with a foreign man that she brought into the room. We tried to ignore it for the first minutes, but it continued for over an hour. They also seemed to consume drugs, which we could hear. I was so scared. Both of them did not care at all, that made the situation so unpredictable. I was scared of getting physically attacked or robbed! My friend and I got really fed up and grabbed our things and wanted to leave. While doing so, all of the clothes of this people were spread around (also on my things- I was so disgusted!!!). While sitting in the cold kitchen, waiting for the first bus, we could see other residents fighting and yelling in the backyard- we were still so scared and just hoping nothing will happen. This place is not safe- especially for solo female travelers. The behavior of the residents is so unpredictable and I did not feel safe going in the middle of the night to the toilet, which is in the backyard. The staff never answered to my email. And while doing more research I read, some Backpackers made similar experiences. Please spent a couple more dollars and be safe!!!Don‘t stay there! Would I have been on my own and would I have been even more scared!

Lovely place, close to the main road but expect the random truck passing by at night you feel like in the middle of nowhere, silent and cozy. Great facilities, the amazing Spa is a must. Great owners, helpful workers and amazing guests keep the place lovely and welcomeing. Come for 3 nights, stayed 2 weeks, really a little Paradise.

Worst place ever! Ended up staying with a mate there for the day and leaving before night came when I forgot my phone which was still in her room, so I try to get in contact with her and go through the fence to go to her dorm... When I was confronted by a man in a hoodie threating to beat me down on the spot... I tryed to explain I was just there to grab my phone but respectfully I left the property and waited on the side of the road in the rain while the landlord just lyed to me saying she will get my mate for me when she just went back in her room and watched me from inside.... I do not recommend this lodge as the landlord likes to take advantage of the less fortunate and thinks she can get away with all the ugly things she does! I'm going to them this morning to lay a complaint...

I had a single room at $39 per night with bbh card (you can purchase from reception for $45 you get $15 credit toward next online booking) the place was clean. The staff were awesome. The hot pool was great. My only issue is that people can be quite noisy and if you are a light sleeper this can be a problem. It's the best hostel I have been in yet due to the friendliness of the staff and the people staying there. Easy to get to from bus stop too. Thanks everyone 💓

One of the most terrible places I've ever stayed!! Find my TA review and the owner's response.... Yes, I was a submariner, for 10 years. No, I don't hire towels, especially from places of very questionable cleanliness. I carry my own clean towel, just in case I come across a place like this. The shaking of the windows and BED definitely WAS worse than when I lived next to a railway line! I get paid well; I chose budget accommodation in order to use the rest of my allowance to shout the guests to dinner and a birthday cake. And I absolutely LOVE my job! I didn't pee on the floor; I was sitting down, you moron. See the photo for the ACTUAL sign on the toilet wall....

Was not happy! place was a mess, bed sheets had stains, blankets smelt like old cigarettes, heater didnt work. Shower & sinks were disgusting! Shower only dribbled boiling hot water, 1x pillow per person. No towels available.Had other permanent residents drinking & smoking right outside our room off & on through the night. not much sleep! Asked for credit card details so by the time we arrived it was to late to cancel. Feeling absolutely ripped off. Spoiled our holiday! Wish I had shopped around first.

This place is great. Nice little warm room with thermal heater on wall. Classic old kiwi charm. Everything very well setup, and labeled. The toilets are very clean. Nice clean sheets and duvets. Friendly. SPA pool was too hot for me. Nice outside area. Perfect stop before the @rotoruamarathon Even though it's in town, it's far enough away from the center of town that you don't get night noise. Nice and peaceful

Backpacker very welcoming and pleasant (surprising for the number of persons). Two kitchens and enough showers. The owner gave us 2GB pp/day for the wifi (great!). There are several tables outdoor. We had 10% off for two attractions of the region. Perfect ferm double bed. Staff friendly. The only negative point : the place is little bit old-fashioned ; could be perfect with some renovations. We found it neither very clean nor very dirty.

There are 2 kitchen, one of them closes from 10pm-8am, which sucks, because in the other is not enough storing space for all people. The rooms are good, the dorm was a 4bed room (2 bunks and the lower beds are king-sized). Outside is a hot-water-pool, heated by the thermal underground stuff in Rotorua, perfect for relaxing after a long day of doing things.
