Our dorm room was large, basic and moderately clean and comfortable. Location was good. They charge you to store luggage on checkout day which is unheard of! Also, worst staff experience we've had in our whole year of backpacking! The manager and another member of staff are very rude! After checkout we decided to wait in the common area for a few hours until our bus arrived. We had no luggage to store at this time. We were then told to leave as it was past checkout time. Despite us keeping calm and polite, the manager was very aggressive and rude. We left without a fuss. It is very typical to be allowed to use the common area space until your public transport is due, but not here! Also, a female member of staff quite rudely asked us to be silent or leave the kitchen at 8PM. We were simply chatting. The signage stated quiet time was from 10PM (which is normal for a hostel). Overall the staff ruined our whole experience. I would avoid here and choose different accommodation.

We checked out at 10am as required and keys returned. Kindly asked if we could finish our breakfast in the kitchen. They told us again and again, "Hurry up!" we asked to sit in back garden and finish the coffee, chased after us again, "please leave." "Don't argue with me, leave!" I was astonished at their attitude. Very rude. Worst hostel service I have ever had. Very rude.

Staff is pretty unfriendly. Bathrooms were dirty, walls are paper thin and it seems like no one goes to sleep in that place. Kitchen has enough equipment but it was pretty dirty. Good location.

The owner is the worst. Please don't go here. I have been to many hostels in new Zealand and this is the worst experience. Heard he fired the manager for no reason. They have so many rules and is not backpacker friendly . Owner asked me to get lost when i was waiting for my bus because it was past check out when i was only using the common area . Almost threatening me. Dated 16-11-2023

The staff was very rude. We arrived late and did not find any keys to enter the rooms. We had to ask around for free beds. We could not reach the emergency contact. No support at all. Little hygiene in the bathrooms.

Avoid this hostel. The owners completely ruined our time here. We were unable to stay our first night due to a cancelled flight, the owners showed no kindness or courtesy and would not offer us a refund for the one night. Pretty bad considering we were paying for four nights in total. The rooms are disgustingly dirty and people in the hostel were being incredibly noisy all through the night. Then, on the last day, they charge $20 PER PERSON to store your luggage. Never had this at any other hostel and completely sums up the money-grabbing, unempathetic attitude of the owners. They should be ashamed at asking people to pay to stay in those rooms. Only saving grace is the central location but even with that I would avoid at all costs.

The most rude, unwelcoming and aggressive staff we have ever had the misfortune of acquainting. Strange checkout rules where you have to pay to store luggage and are forced to leave at 10am. Not allowed to use the toilets, Wi-Fi, kitchen past 10am. We had no luggage to store and came back at 3pm to wait for our bus which is usually allowed in hostels but the owner was really rude and angry and forced us to leave. He took photos of us as โ€œproofโ€ we were breaking the law. So weird! Save yourself the awful experience and choose somewhere else to stay. The staff are awful and clearly shouldnโ€™t be in charge of a social hostel with members of the public. Such a shame!

Got a single room with shared bathroom. Bathroom facilities could use an upgrade. The rooms are clean enough and with secure locks. Would recommend for a budget stay.

Not worth the price. There is quite a bit of mold, the windows are leaky and the kitchen are quite unclean. They need to clean the kitchen more and provide more tea towels. The wifi is good and the beds are comfortable. The people are friendly and it has a safe environment. Cozy but run down.

Location is great, staff is friendly and the dorms room was very spacious. However, shower could be better...

I spent one night at the hostel and that was more than enough for me. The staff say they are there until 8pm but I didn't see them from 7pm to 8pm. The staff are far too strict and unsympathetic. Some people from the hostel stole from me in the kitchen, and when I mentioned it to the reception, the only thing they said was "it happens". 0 empathy. What's more, there's no camera in the kitchen, which I don't think is professional at all, given that stolen food "just happens". The rooms are really good. As for the bathrooms, they're spacious but the taps are black and rusty. It doesn't give a clean impression. Even so, it's clean on the whole.

My second time staying here. Very clean and good showers. The beds are really comfortable. The whole place is extremely warm. Great radiators. Parking is good and walking distance to the town center. I recommend staying here.

I really liked this backpackers. I arrived late in the evening and the person at the desk was friendly and helpful I stayed in a single room with a king bed. The bathroom was across the hall. Everything was clean and well taken care of. There was room in the fridge for my food, the shower was hot and the heating worked well. It is close to everything and reasonably priced (a dorm room share was $22 and the single was $50) I felt like the staff cared about my experience staying there and so I enjoyed it that much more.

Made it a point to asked the staff if I am able to park my car even though there are no parking lots available, he mentioned that I was able to park my car as long it doesn't block any cars that were there. I was more than happy to move the car if I have to, but the ill-mannered owner had to make a nuisance the morning after asking me to move my car in the most obnoxious manner possible. To make matters worse, I even found a bedbug on my coat the next morning. The previous reviews about how rude the owners are cannot be more true, there are plenty other hostels around please avoid staying in this hostel.

One of the very best! Amongst the friendliest hospitality Iโ€™ve ever experienced: the โ€˜only good vibesโ€™ slogan fits. Owners: beautiful family who make a huge effort to make you feel at home. Great advice on the local attractions. The place: kept very clean, itโ€™s great for showering and cooking. Many comfortable chilling options in two separate rooms (quiet or TV room). The TV had a great movie selection on USB drive. It all lends itself to friendly socializing (guitar ๐Ÿค˜) but quiet corners too. Big hot tub fits many people! Dorm room: spacious and no bunks. Mattress good, a little soft for me. Night lights would be cool to allow some less aggressive evening lighting in room (but then weโ€™d socialize less ๐Ÿ˜‰). Heaters: beautiful geothermal heat, great feeling for the colder winter evenings. I would make a point of returning here, thanks for having me! August 2019.

Super flippin comfy beds, really soft and and cozy, heater was on before we got there so the room was already warm. Great kitchen and bathroom facilities for price and was able to make the booking within a couple hours of arriving

Pretty decent hostel. Not the best not the worst. The single beds were comfy in the 6 bed dorms- nice change from bunk beds. Not the cleanest feeling and kitchen wasnโ€™t particularly well equipped but felt safe and was in a good location.

I have stayed in many hostels, and this one has so far been the best one! I really felt like I was staying at my own place. Itโ€™s comfortable, clean and well organised. Some people complain of the manager being too rigid, but thatโ€™s the flip side of a well-organised and clean hostel. Iโ€™d definitely go back again!

The hostel isnt clean, the kitchen stinks very badly, I wasn't able to cook there. Our room was also not cleaned before our arrival, we found dirty spots on the furniture and bed. The owner was quite unfriendly.

Run down hostel, but OK. We asked to leave our bags at reception after check out because our bus wasn't for a couple of hours but they said they would have to charge. Every other hostel in NZ I've been too offers this for free. For what seems to be a family run business, no staff member was friendly or that nice. There are better hostels around the area for the same price. Wouldn't recommend.

The family who operate this hostel are very friendly and helpful. I understand they have recently acquired this business. It is clean The lounge area is comfortable But it needs some work it is showing age and is worse for wear. My matress was so uncomfortable I kept slipping of the bed it was either lumpy or the inner matress just worn away. They have laundry facilities I will give them benefit of the doubt as they are in Rotorua that when tourism picks up they will invest some money into matresses and some upgrades. Location is exceptional right in town I really hope they upgrade there hostel soon I understand covid has done much harm to this business. I wish this family well

Cute for a hostel. Good location and decent facilities. Not a good place to stay if you want to sleep in past 9am as you can hear everything through the walls. At least once daily thereโ€™s no toilet paper in the toilet.

Pretty decent spot if you're on a budget friendly travel to Rotorua. Ample parking for 5-7 cars at the back, more off street parking.. wifi speed was good.. the beds were super comfy

Amazing warm welcome and very friendly and helpful hostess. Would definitely go here again when i am in the vicinity. Very clean and good facilities. The free hot bath in the back is a nice luxury add-on, just what you need after all these long hikes. Thank you Moose! ;)
