We visited this museum and we loved it! The lady working here as a tour guide knew everything about the objects and the building. I strongly recommend visiting this building if you go to Sao tome.

Visit to see storerooms of unlabelled artefacts degrading in the salt air and to experience a threadbare tour in Portuguese. About a third of the exhibits are labelled. The rest exist (until decay takes them) with only vaguest of context. If you're not a Portuguese speaker, you'll learn a lot more about the wealth of São Toméan history online when you do your research. This national museum is missing a lot of stories, funding and curator capacity. Save your history while you still can, São Tomé!

Go visit but don‘t expect too much of the tour guide showing you around. He basically said „this is the bedroom“, „this is the dining room“ and didn‘t explain any of the history. The fort itself is nice and worth a visit, especially the lighthouse. No photos allowed inside.

Nice place to learn more about Sao Tome history, although when I was there it was under maintenance, can't wait to go there when finished.

For 50 dobras (2 €), you will have a glance at the history of Sao Tome. A guide is included in the price and will tell you the story of the Islands. Great place. Great building. A must see!

This historic fort and its adjacent lighthouse are cute. It costs 2 euros and I recommend it, given the nice coastal sceneries visible from the top. However, the lack of explanations in English, French or Spanish is a pity. There are interesting artefacts, paintings and photographs in every room, but you're not sure of what you're looking at. This is particularly disappointing when faced with highly distressing pictures of corpses...

It is located at the southeast end of Ana Chavez Bay, so the views from here are good. The museum is housed within his 16th-century fortress, built to protect against pirate attacks, and has cannons and other period weapons on display outside. The three standing statues outside are explorers who discovered the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Interesting historical place. Good guide (portuguese only) Rooms with various exhibitions showing the life in old times, centering on the injustices of the past. Good photos from the top. Price 50 Dobras (2euros) per person. Recomending for 1 hour visit.
