This place is incredible! Straight out of a fairly take. Most of the castle is very walkable. To go to the top of the tower though, you do need to climb a decent amount of stairs. The views from all of the areas in the castle are still beautiful without seeing the tower. There is a small playground here as well. There is even a charcoal grill that you can use and cook a meal in the middle of castle ruins!! My sister’s family and I made some chicken sandwiches there - such a cool experience. There is also a restaurant onsite, but so believe it has been closed for months because of COVID. Anyway, this is a wonderful place to let kids play, have a picnic and see some beautiful castle ruins.

My first castle experience and it did not disappoint! You can walk and climb on anything as long as you are respectful and not damaging when you do so. There are some steeper paths but others are gradual. Definitely a good thing to stop at! Informational board at the beginning and bathrooms are available but we did not go into them so we can't comment on the cleanliness. Take the opportunity to go toward the bathrooms but make a right before you go into them and go down the stairs. I don't think many people know you can get down there. It is a cool area for pictures! It is free to go here and there are two parking areas. One close to the castle and a larger one a little walk away. Road is narrow so use caution on the walk.

Went to the castle for a medieval market. Was a good time. They had a bunch of vendors and people living medieval lives and selling their wares as well as musicians and jugglers etc… is also a very pretty location very welcoming and amazing views from a still standing castle and ruins. Must see if near by, especially with an event. They also have a dinosaur museum and castle museum with lots of food options.

We just visited the Burg Lichtenberg today for the first time and were blown away by the beauty of the castle and the surrounding area. The place was well keep and had a lot of different sections you can walk to. Even though the facilities are closed, the Castle is still open for those who want to go for a nice stroll. We even had two ultralight aircraft fly around the castle waving at the visitors. We will definitely be back.

Visited this castle with two young kids and a baby. These ruins were a blast for the kids to run around and climb a little bit. There's free parking and plenty of space. There are restrooms here, though we didn't use them. The castle's tower has an incredible view of the surrounding village and hillsides. We spent a couple hours here just letting the kids run around and only saw about half of the ruins. It's easy to walk around while carrying a baby also. There's also a little playground near the entrance for kids. This place is easily a place we could visit regularly just to be out and play while enjoying some historical ruins. Also, it's completely free to visit the place and supposedly the ruin grounds are open all hours.

Beautiful abandoned place (in the winter). In the summer- they have boots with different foods and drinks, ice cream... also a restaurant. Trail up the road, where you can explore and hike on the top of the hills.

Beautiful place to wander on a late Friday afternoon. Watched the sunset from the tower. Enjoyed the cool breeze as the fog settles in. So peaceful and quiet. ( at least during my visit). Will be back for sure.

Went to this castle for dinner and to sight see. What a beautiful place to visit while in the area. The food was delicious and the castle ruins were breathtaking.

Beautiful and large! You can definitely drive up and plenty of parking. Due to Covid-19 and it being a Mother's Day Sunday the restaurants, bars were closed.

Although there is construction currently taking place, it is still a stunning castle. There is parking right beside the castle, and trails as well. This castle had so many places for my kids to run and climb on, so we stayed awhile. It seems like every spot is photo worthy and I can totally see why many people do photo shoots here. I wish the museum and restaurant were open, but unfortunately due to covid they were closed. I would absolutely visit this castle again, once they open back up. It’s a must visit for sure!

So far, this is my favorite ruin in Germany. The castle is enormous and so much is still left intact. The surrounding features - restaurant, museum, playground, ice cream stand, etc - are icing on the cake. We spent about 1.5 hours here only in ruins and playground and would have loved to spend another 1-2 if time allowed. Will be going back!!

The castle ruins are incredible, what’s most amazing is how it sits atop of the town and the views of the countryside are breathtaking; even on a not so sunny day. Definitely recommend coming during spring when the museum and restaurant are open and there is less construction going on.

Nice free castle. The fun part about this castle is that you have a lot of freedom to thoroughly explore. My kids had fun climbing in and around this castle.

Neat castle. There's quite a bit of construction, it looks like they're adding several pathways. It seems like it will be more accessible, but I'm not sure if there are accessible toilets. You can park right at the castle and walk in. Many people use this spot for family/wedding photos. The restaurant is currently closed, so bring your own snacks!

Lichtenberg Castle is picturesque and amazingly lovely! Being only 30 mins from Ramstein, the grounds are large, with lots of exploring with you children and dogs, and includes 2 museums (historic and a dinosaur with fossils) and a playground. The restaurant has lovely seating inside and on the patio overlooking the sweet village and countryside below, and all 4 courses of dinner were incredibly delicious! More importantly, the owner, Ms. Klein and her wonderful staff are at your service and will ensure your visit is absolutely perfect. Highly recommend!

Amazing architecture, brings you back in time, with breathtaking views. Comfortable shoes is a must, expect plenty of climbing on rocky terrain.

Beautiful old castle with some cool history! It has never been very crowed when I have gone. Beautiful place to take a stroll and learn a bit more about the area and history. I went to the museum which was a cheap entrance fee and had some really cool old instruments of the Kusel musicians!

tl;dr - Very beautiful, fun to explore for the whole family, those with wheelchairs/disability will have a little trouble getting around. Beautiful castle! We visited during the winter, so all the restaurants and most of the museums were closed, but don't let that stop you from a visit. The ruins are lovely to explore and a fairly easy walk, even for the little ones. Lots of the info is in English and staff was friendly. Plenty of easy access parking as well. Parking and bathrooms (located near the entrance) were free. I would say the only downside was lack of ramps. I came with a baby in a stroller and had to find creative ways to get around. It was fine for us, but the disability access during the off-season (lifts weren't in use) can make it a bit difficult to get around. Something to keep in mind.

We spent a lovely afternoon walking around. We went late afternoon on Saturday so the drink garden was closed. So much history. We used the downloadable audio tour. We plan to go again.

Burg Lichtenberg is always an amazing place to go. At Nighy or Day. With someone or by yourself, it is quite nice. They is a nice little playground for the kids. Christmas Markets and Renaissance Festivals there are quite nice.

Awesome experience. Restaurant wasn’t open and I see why due to the wedding. Looks like a beautiful place to have a wedding. Beautiful scenery, huge castle to climb, and lots of exercise for the kids. Definitely a place to visit. Nice small museum on site as well.
