First timer, will definitely recommend. Our tacos were nice and warm, not piping hot. Very puffy and delicious, like a buttery taste. Needed a lil salt, but other than that. Very good

This is the weirdest food place I have ever been! I will never waste my money again…Chips are old and taste like old oil and are very stale! Nachos look and taste like cat food, caned chicken! Nachos more like one nacho stuck together with microwaved cheese. Enchiladas are okay. But the rice is absolutely disgusting, it taste like a chopped up sponge! Service was okay not very friendly

This was my first time eating there. I was very disappointed. The food was very greasy and had no flavor whatsoever very Bland. I ordered two Puffy Tacos and two beef burritos. The burritos were covered in so much cheese it was ridiculous and the meat had no flavor whatsoever. I ate one of the Puffy Tacos and about three quarters of one of the burritos. The only thing that had any flavor was the rice. Very disappointed

I'm an employee at Kroger, and today, El Charro made every employee at work, a lunch. I thought that was VERY THOUGHTFUL of them, as they didn't have to do that. They made ALOT of lunches for us today. So a BIG shout-out to all of you at El Charro. THANK YOU so much for thinking of us all. GREAT JOB and GREAT FOOD. 😁

It's not as good as the original location... but it's still El Charro. I'm 46 and have been going to El Charro since the original owner, Poncho, on Utica at Masonic! Their tacos are the best of any I've had... anywhere! Their enchiladas are great as well. This is where I learned to make nachos... I've oven baked mine ever since I was a kid. The only disappointing thing, and greatly so, is the forever staple of kids eat free on Sundays. Unfortunately, at the SCS location, it's not possible for dinner. It only counts for dine in, which we tried, but we're forced to go through the drive thru since the dining room was closed. Kids eat free until 9pm, but when we went at 730, the dining room was already closed, and they wouldn't honor the deal. I still love El Charro, we just won't go back to this location that it literally at the end of our street. We'll make the trek to Fraser.

You're better off eating at Taco Bell. The shredded chicken is unseasoned and canned. As a matter of fact, nothing was seasoned. If you enjoy bland food, have at it. El Charro's should not be called Mexican food. It belongs in the trash.

This is one of my very favorite Mexican restaurants around. And their late-night drive-through is a real Godsend! I especially love their Chile Riano‘s (seafood) and enchiladas! Ola!

Average Americanized Mexican food. Recommend to go somewhere else to experience authentic Mexican food. I would not come here again. Portions are small. Really? Is that 2 beef burritos? Huh. The bill was way more than it's worth.

Not bad, about medium grade Mexican food. The chicken lacks flavor. There's salsa had cumin in it. Cumin is normally reserved for the food as a seasoning. I would recommend it for the novice Mexican food eater. Prices were somewhat reasonable for these days, not terribly expensive.

The puffy tacos are very tasty. I wish they had more meat options and more spicy foods. But good joint to get your eat on.

Pretty good Mexican food place and the only place around me that I can get a puffy taco. Which are delicious and should be tried by all. I do wish they would fix their rice though it just doesn't seem right and it hasn't changed, last time we were here was probably four or five years ago and it was the same then. Oh yeah if you want to come here and eat there was a sign on the door saying that June 20th 2022, and I heard a women working there saying they were going to close the indoor area down to focus on the drive-thru, indefinitely. What a bummer. The chimichanga we got was REALLY tiny wow, should have put a fork in there for sizing but you can get an idea from the taco next to it and the little bit of guacamole. Thought we were gettin an ok deal till we saw that lol. They're drive thru is always busy and usually out to the road, the menu and where you order are on the opposite side of the parking lot from the building because the line is so long.

Had to see what the crave was about, Ordered 60$ Tried a lil bit of everything, It's middle of the road Mexican cuisine, Chicken was dry flavorless, Beef had zero seasoning seafood nachos were best thing they had going but needs a Lil butter sauce. Drive thru was packed n locals seem to love it, I'd pass next time.

My family and I usually have a great experience at this elcharros, but we ordered 8 of the puffy tacos and the bottom of them were so soggy (thinking from the tomatoes) that the bottom shells split open couldn't even eat them.disapointed. because they are usually awesome.

Underwhelming. Totally. We love you all but the convenience (around corner) continues to leave us asking why... last meal was a strong DECENT. Don't get me wrong. Tasty. We understand the economics of things now. But $32 for 2 combos, small portions, chimi the size of a small fist and nearly $8 for guac, chips. Smallville portions. We're taking a break.

The puffy tacos are beyond amazing. Their other dishes are pretty good, but the puffy tacos are the real stars. The salsa roja is unique and delicious and the botana is a rarity you can pretty much not find anywhere else in the area.

EL GARBO!!! this place is terrible. I shoulda known something was up when I passed by and nobody was up in there. That was my first red flag I missed. Then I call the place and before I can even tell them my name they yell “if this is a carry out order you can’t use the drive thru!” Then I place my order and I ask if I can have some grilled onions on my taco they said we can only put raw onions on tacos for whatever reason and if I want grilled onions they can give me a side of them for 5 dollars!! Like ok I can buy a 7 whole onions at the grocery store for that but whatever. I order 3 tacos and a side of onions and my bill is 23 dollars. 5 dollars per taco is outrageous as I knew right there that’s the most expensive taco I’ve ever bought and it’s not even authentic Mexican food this is American tex-mex. So I get home and try open the bag and they gave me some chips and salsa. And I’m thinking to myself surely this must be good I just paid 25 bucks. And NOPE! The salsa is watery with no flavor! How can u mess that up? Then I try tacos and instantly regret not going to Taco Bell and just getting some tacos from them cause honestly Taco Bell is 1/3 of the price and is not much worse. Don’t be fooled people this is fast food for fine dining prices. They have a drive thru that should have clued me in. Then of course about 45 minutes after my stomach is bubbling cause the quality was just average at best and now I got the runs…. POOR

This is quite possibly the best quick service Hispanic cuisine that I have ever had! I have just moved up from Florida and have been scouring all surrounding areas for delicious food. I highly recommend this location as a take out dinner choice and I will be returning! I had the Pick 3 Combination with: Unique Soft Shell Taco (Puffy) - Chicken Wet Burrito - Shredded Beef add Jalapeno Chiles Rellenos - Ground Beef (Slightly Spicy) Rice, Beans, Tortilla Chips and Salsa (Slightly Spicy) All highly recommended!

I wasn't sure if the food would be as good or as tasty as the El Charro sit down restaurant but I was very pleased with my meal. I did not wait long for my food. I will be back soon.

Their Mexican is best in the area and the best El Charro location in Metro Detroit. We always get take out and is fast and perfectly done. They even have a drive thru for convienience.

El Charro never fails to provide great food. The service is great too. Always friendly. Sometimes I'll order ahead, and it's ready pretty quickly. Even when waiting in line, they move fast. Oh, and the signature puffy tacos are signature for a reason. They're delicious.

I hate to give anyone a 1 star, by my god the food was bad. 2 of us ordered carry out from here and literally none of it was good, not a single thing was enjoyable in any way. I’ve never been able to say that about any restaurant. The chicken was dry as a bone any chewier than rubber. Everything was cold (and we were there early to get our food and only live a few minutes away). The only saving grace was supposed to be what they call “deep fried ice cream”, and even that was bad. I honestly can’t believe I’m leaving such a bad review, but, here we are. I’ve ALWAYS been able to find something positive to say about a given restaurant, but as the saying goes “there’s a first time for everything’. Seriously, Taco Bell, Dell Taco, anything else is better. Don’t waste your time or money.

First time here and really enjoyed it. Used the drive through and the service was very quick. Really enjoyed the Fish taco and the queso dip. Chips and burrito were also very good. Would recommend if your looking for Mexican food in the area.

Yummy puffy tacos, very friendly staff! I haven't had any issues except with the exception of Thursday's staff, they suck! This restaurant still deserve five stars though because it's hard to find good help, and I can literally go any other day it seems and not have any issues with the exception of Thursday evening. My taco literally fell apart as I tried to pick it up because it was sopping wet..on top of rude staff on this particular evening!

We liked it. First time there. We went in to order and was ready fast. Food was really good but the only downside was it's kinda pricey. I could have ordered from a mid level steak house for similar pricing.

Got two dinner (pick 2) and a pound of chips with salsa. The whole pound of chips is burnt… we gave this place a chance after not being there for a while. Think we’ll skip it next time.

I've been a loyal El Charro customer for decades. I'm sad to report that not only are prices almost 2x what they used to be, there's no service. You bring your own food to the table, the food is served on disposable plastic trays & paper cups and you clean your own table. When we got the food, it was cold as if it sat outside in the Michigan winter. It was also very cold inside and PS, we were the only customers on a Sunday at dinner time. Very unlikely I'll be returning soon. :(

Way overpriced and under delivered. Ordered for four people through the drive through and paid almost $20 per person for incredibly small portions of poor quality Americanized Mexican food. Don’t waste your money here. You’re better off at Taco Bell and that’s not saying much.

Come here tonight for the first time as a pickup order. I have wanted to come here in the past but it’s always super crazy to get into the parking lot. I ordered online, the order was ready 10 minutes past the pickup estimate but they were slammed. I got home and realized they forgot a portion of one of the meals (mine) lol so I went back up there. They were even crazier busy but I got my remake within 5 minutes. I can’t speak for my family because they were all done eating by time I got back home but I ordered the pick three, chicken chimichanga, beef puffy taco, bean and beef wet burrito Mexican rice and beans. It definitely isn’t authentic Mexican but it was really delicious actually. I was surprised the puffy taco and chicken chimichanga was so delicious even though it was kind of cold by time I got to eat it. The wet burrito was also really good and the beans come with yellow cheese fyi but still very good. The chicken chimichanga is only about 2.5” long and an inch thick, they are delicious but very small so keep that in mind when ordering. Okay so one thing I loved about this place was how they package the food, they put the items in their own containers to prevent them from getting mushy and mixed together, I also love that the cups and all the containers were paper and plastic products so I can recycle them, that to me is a WIN! One thing I didn’t like was the way the parking lot is laid out, it’s almost impossible to park on the other side because the drive through, if anything this has prevented me from coming here in the past. Now that I have experienced it I will definitely come back to support this business and even though they forgot a portion of my meal I’m still going to give 5 stars based on service and food quality.

Even tho there's normally 8+ cars in the drive thru, they will get you out of there FAST. Bags are stapled shut but, no need to fear, the order is correct. Mexican fast food never tasted so good!

We Drive all the way from the other side of town to have our favorite dish, puffy taco and burrito combo and the inside dinning is still NOT OPEN!! WHY!!. It’s been almost two weeks since the restrictions where lifted and still no inside dinning? We are able to eat inside at our local Coney Island restaurant, but not your establishment? I have been a loyal customer for over 25 years and never again and that’s sad because I loved your food. No one is going to drive 15 miles for carry out only. We want to be able to sit down, socialize and eat our meal.

  • 5/5 Stephen F. 3 years ago on Google
Its always great! Even when they are insanely busy the line goes pretty fast given the different foods they need to prepare. The salsa that comes default with the chips is great, its a little spicy and keeps the taste.

Well since it's a pandemic it was kind of confusing you had to use your debit card can make your order and come in and get it. Or the second option was show up at the restaurant get in line through the drive-through and make your order I thought what's the difference if you use your car then or which I don't like over the phone. The food was good but not in the quality at used to be I guess things change

I don’t know how they did it, but this location of El Charro seems to do right what the location in Frasier does wrong. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this is. Is it authentic? No, but I don’t think you’d be coming to el charro if you were looking for authenticity. It’s convenient, tasty, and the price is right.
