The place is under new ownership and super clean. Very friendly staff with the same great food as always. Several upgrades that were needed have been done. It’s better than ever.

Giving it a 2 star instead of a 1 star because of the quick service. I wanted to try it after hearing people talking about it and I ordered the super burrito and my wife ordered the taco burger. The super burrito was covered in sauce that had a taste of maybe Ragú, or a canned tomato sauce just mixed with shredded cheese. I have tried many authentic dishes from various Taquerias and Restaurants in Kansas City. This is by far the worst tasting food I have tried. I took a bite of my burrito and I couldn’t even swallow it, I immediately spit it out. I know this place is liked by many people but I recommend to anyone who actually likes this place to go deep into Kansas City and venture into a Taqueria and enjoy what authentic Mexican food tastes like. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food this is not the place. If you are looking for something quick and tasty, go for Taco Bell, that would be a better option than here.

I have eaten in restaurants in the south west, so perhaps I am a bit spoiled. Absolutely disgusting here. I hate to do this, but the truth has to be known. What is that mystery meat? And the hot sauce is tart tomato paste with spices. After a 3rd time, never again. 1st time seemed OK. I suppose it depends on the cook, which seems to be the position that slightly works? it is prepared fast. 2nd and 3rd time, it seemed like I was doing a favor by eating any of it. Most was trashed. Microwave burritos taste better. I hate to be mean. But that sucked. Waiting staff in the background seemed lazy, and talking about things I am trying to avoid when in a restaurant, if one could call it a restaurant. This place could reduce staff from 3 to 1 quality employee, and produce better quality "questionable taco filling ". Did you pay for reviews? Seriously. Absolutely horrible, a waste of hard earned money.

I love Mexican cuisine, this establishment has by far THE WORST of the worst excuses for what could be called even close to an ethnic dish. If your looking for dry, stale, overpriced and flavorless food...then this is your place. Never before in my life have I tasted something so gross.

Wanted to try since it's changed hands was excited since they have been closed for a couple weeks. We always get the giant taco burger no lettuce and we add sour cream has always been so yummy but today not so much only had like a spoon of meat on it barely any cheese or the sour cream that we added and the flavor of the meat isn't the same felt like eating mostly bread very disappointing. We always get a side of beans and a side of rice to container only half full another disappointment. We loved eating here but not anymore.

A hometown staple in St.Joseph... love this hole in the wall taco joint, been going there for years, and the staff is awesome. Hats off to Nikita, Vicki, and Kelly... They always knew how to make their guests feel at home and welcome.

I drive by all the time. I used to tear this place up back in the day. I rolled in today and went inside. It's been over 20 years since I ate here. Taco delight and taco burger . Fire 🔥 F those chain restaurants. Give it a try nothing has changed .

Drive thru- honk when you are ready to order. The lot is full of pot holes. Got a super Sancho, cheese enchilada and chips and cheese dip. Cost was $15. It smelled horrible. American cheese in the cheese enchiladas. Cheese dip is that cheap yellow cheese sauce. Everything was NASTY! Never ever again! It's just soooo bad.

The price is to high. The tamales was dry and everything was cold. When I tried to eat the tacos it was greasy and I can tell that don't no one was wearing gloves. A lady scratch her hair and went on fixed the food.

This is one of those places where you can say it is nothing fancy but the food is really good. The drive in was only available due to COVID 19 and you have to honk to get the attention of the order taker but I guess that is part of their charm. The drive in menu arrangement is not super obvious but it can be figured out easily. I had the beefy nachos and a cheesy enchilada and enjoyed it. I will be back, glad I went.

Definitely won't be coming here again, I got the "super burrito" all it was was beef cheese and covered in sauce, also got some nachos which I would say remind me of something you would get at the bowling alley

It's somewhere I used to eat lunch 20 yrs ago. Took my mom there, 77, and she usually may eat 2 tacos from others, today she ate 3, and ate the third faster than first 2. I had the lg taco burger and it was as I remembered 20 yrs ago. I was glad I stopped today. I live in GA so today was just luck that I drove by while in town. Sadly, as backing up to leave, noticed it was up for sale. There was another older gentleman there, he said he's been eating there since 1979.

Was sad to have my 1st bad experience in 40 years. My 1st visit since new ownership wasn't good. My go to taco burger had less everything on it and the meat seemed seasoned differently. The beans on the bean burrito also tasted different and had whole under cooked beans in it. Overall it wasn't too bad but not the same I grew up with. I will give it another try in hopes my experience was just a bad day for them.

Absolutely one of my favorite places it’s so authentic. It’s one place I can always remember to share good memories with it seems to be the only one that’s up and still running for so many years and more years to come

I've eaten here countless times. Taco Bandido is pretty good, but it seems like the kind of stuff I could make at home with canned ingredients. The prices are a bit better than most you'll find around here.

*edit 3/28/21* resolved? Grateful this was handled later appropriately, but did not appreciate the managers dismissal of my complaint initially. I am changing my initial review. Though I will leave my first one below. After years of decent service, over the last couple years it's really gone down hill. Now that you can only use the busted up drive thru it is even worse. I can't even remember at this point the last time I went there and my order wasn't wrong. Today I was over charged by $15 worth of food that their manager said I wasn't charged for; I've looked at their menu prices and I understand actually I was. Was told we could come back and reorder them and pay for them again and they would give us an order of crustos for the inconvenience. If this had been a retailer we would call that a scam. 100% not here for it anymore. 4 stars 2017: Have enjoyed coming here my whole life. Slightly outdated but adds to its local charm. Decent food and the price isn't terrible either. The iced tea is terrible though.

I love it here but can’t do it very often. Bandito is a “guilty pleasure” type restaurant that withstands the test of time. Always friendly staff to greet yo and it tastes the best when you’re just plain tired after everything the week throws at you. Don’t go there and not expect to leave without smelling like what they’re cooking. I absolutely love it here. It reminds me of In-A-Tub in Kansas City in the very best way possible. Been there dozens of times and will always go back!

Taco Bandido was a staple for me while working my way through my undergraduate degree. It was consistent, delicious, and down to earth. I recently grabbed lunch with my wife and son, after hearing that there was new ownership. It DID NOT disappoint. The same amazing food is complemented by a fresh, vibrant feel to the restaurant. The staff are friendly & knowledgeable, the feeling from all those years back when I’d crunch into a taco delight during an all-night finals cram session still hits, and best of all- I get to share that with my son now.
