In the heart of the largest urban agglomeration on the planet lies an oasis of calm and beauty. Stretching 1.2 kilometres this 15 metre deep ravine is a true hidden gem. From the bustling streets, teeming with traffic, you descend to a cobbled path that meanders along a cool stream past majestic trees and groves of giant bamboo. Interestingly enough, there are few foreign tourists yet information panels in English help guide you through the main points of interest. Make sure to walk through the Japanese garden. Although I’ve only visited in summer, the ravine is known for the incredible colours of it’s fall foliage. To do it justice you should plan on a bare minimum of one hour although one could easily spend a half-day enjoying this natural treasure.

What a great gem in Tokyo. Took me 3 trips to Japan to finally visit this place, should've done it sooner. Great location, you will feel like you are somewhere in Nagano, and completely out of Tokyo. Amazing thing is, the temperature here is lower than up the valley. Beautiful place.

A very good place to enjoy the thick and dark shades on a sunny day, right within Tokyo. If you carry rain shoes or crocs you can also walk in the river channel, alone or with kids. A great outing place with options of small hiking steps on either sides, leading to various tombs. The trail ends at a Japanese garden, another good spot to enjoy.

Great walk, although if like me you get anxious about small pathways you may need to take it slow. Theres no railing and whilst it isnt a big drop, folk still go past at quite a pace. So much wildlife. Massive butterflies and a variety of jeweled spiders. Its worth sitting down and really taking in all the little parts around you. Nice train ride to get here too. Its cooler in the valley on hot days, so its a small oasis

Beautiful walk along Todoroki Ravine, with green and brown Autumn leaves and the glorious sunshine shimmering against the gently flowing river. Pretty busy on a nice day out, but still walkable and lots of photo opportunities.

The place is cool and calm. Takes you into nature. Good place to visit during summer as it is full of trees and feels cool to walk by river. There are 2 temples on the way, both are beautiful to visit. You can also get a pizza and pasta shot on the way of walk.

a very shady place, but unfortunately when I came there it wasn't open. There is sufficient bicycle parking, maybe during the summer this place will be very suitable to visit, you really feel at one with nature. very close to todoroki station. Maybe it would be a good idea for the manager to set visiting hours on Google Maps so that visitors are not disappointed.

A beautiful and peaceful park set in the only valley in Tokyo. A great place to walk when it's hot and humid. There is also a shrine at the end of the trail which offers incredible views and delicious ice cream.

It's a nice river for a short walk and a peaceful atmosphere. But I was pretty disappointed that the claimed "waterfall" was almost nonexistent.

A nice area found right within the heart of Tokyo (almost). Easy for an afternoon trip, and nice sights that will make you feel like you’ve ventured outside of Tokyo a bit.

Nice little trail to enjoy away from the city. Easily accessible from Todoriki station (1 minute from South exit) or a 20 minute walk from Futako Tamagawa. Plenty of greenery and the air is slightly cooler and fresher. A few spots to see the autumn foliage colours as well. A little bit too busy because of that.

Beautiful but small park along a creek in a residential area of Tokyo. It is quiet during the weekday but pretty crowded on the weekend. There is a small shrine and a sweet shop for your rest. The trail between both ends is less than 0.6 km which is an easy walk. There is are parking lots but not many of them.

The first time I visited because I saw a video of a walkthrough in the rain which looked fantastic. But it was slowed down much. I think it was almost 1hr or so. Though the place is actually not that big. There's a small cafe with shaved ice. It's a bit expensive but good taste. If you pass by it's good for a 30 min walk.

I've been here during the day before and I had such a nice relaxing walk. I went to check it out at night since it says it's open 24/7, I thought there would be streetlights on the walking path but it was pitch black. 😅 not recommended for a night walk but would be very cool and nice in the evening. The temperature near the stream is almost 2 degrees cooler!

A rainforest in the middle of Tokyo. About 3 deg C cooler than street level (above the ravine), humid and lovely. Well worth a visit, we spent about 1,5h just walking about, visiting the gardens at the end furthest away from the station, as well as the shrine around halfway.

Quite a nice park in Tokyo, a great choice to get some fresh air without the need to go out of the city.

Very nice getaway from the busy suburbs, walk along the river and have lunch at the park at the end at the top of the stairs, be aware though there’s not much to do around the ravine

Nice place for nature sightseeing. With small river, many trees, and nice cool breeze along the track even during summer!

From my understanding this is the only ravine in Tokyo. Located about 20 - 30 minutes by train from Shibuya Station, Todoroki Valley (or Ravine) is one of the green oasis to escape the bustling city life. Popular especially during the summer and the autumn, first for cooler temperature and later for the autumn colour leaves, the ravine path (concrete walk path) stretches for about 1 km. At the end of the valley you can find a beautiful Japanese Garden, free entrance. There are some popular spots along the route, such as a restaurant, shrines, a small waterfall and a temple.

Friends told me about this natural valley and I’m so glad I came. A compact, urban oasis close to central Tokyo but a world away. I’m so glad it never got developed. Let’s preserve this gem 💎 forever!

Amazing place - almost like magical. Not too long but many interesting places along the river - old tombs, Japanese garden and a park to sit and enjoy

A wonderful place to visit in early spring, to spot plum tree blossom and cherry tree blossom. It has a scenic view from the high point of the garden. Make sure to have proper shoes for the rocky steps.

A little escape from Tokyo in Tokyo. The ravine allows for a light stroll with a lot of greenery to satisfy the need for fresh air. I went a day after it rained, so there weren’t a lot of people and we got to stroll at our own pace. However, since the walkways are narrow, I can imagine it being quite crowded if you visit with a lot of people. The area around the park offers a lot of trendy cafes and eateries. Forgot to mention that there’s a shrine after a flight of stairs somewhere in the park. Have fun!
