Churchhaven
is
a
slice
of
paradise
that
you
would
be
hard-pressed
to
beat
anywhere
in
the
world.
Only
an
hour's
drive
up
the
west
coast
from
Cape
Town,
this
small
community
is
nestled
into
-
and
integrated
into
-
the
West
Coast
National
Park.
It
sits
on
shores
of
a
lagoon
which
teems
with
flamingoes
and
other
bird
life
and
wildlife
like
various
buck,
porcupines
and
mongoose
are
common
too.
The
historic
church
and
cemetery
remind
the
visitor
of
its
origins
as
a
fishing
community
going
back
to
the
1800s.
Due
to
the
scarcity
of
resources
and
infrastructure
and
its
ecological
sensitivity
the
properties
are
all
off-grid,
powered
by
solar
panels,
gas
and
woodfire.
Visitors
are
asked
to
take
their
own
drinking
water
and
remove
their
refuse
when
they
leave.
Staying
there
provides
an
experience
of
another
way
of
living
quite
apart
from
the
beauty
of
the
surroundings
which
include
cheeky
Franklin
birds
happy
to
wander
into
your
cottage
while
you
enjoy
a
sundowner
on
your
porch.
