The Lowry is a theatre and gallery complex at Salford Quays, Salford, Greater Manchester, England........ It is named after the early 20th-..century painter L. S. Lowry, known for his paintings of industrial scenes in North West England. ....The complex was officially opened on 12 October 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II....

The best theatre I’ve went to. The seats were comfortable and they were placed so that you see in between the people in front of you, rather than directly behind them, so you get a good view regardless of where you’re sitting - we were seated at the very back of the stalls but still managed to see everything well. I would definitely return in the future!

Very good venue in Salford a d next to the media city. Also beateful at night with all lights lighting sound it. One problem at the moment is the road work and hence the way to get to it. Another problem is this car park at the end of good and full house performance it is difficult to exit the car park quickly or quick enough. Be prepared. Last night attended megnificent and performance by John Bishop and experienced that. The place has every to complete going to the theatre. Fantastic restaurant 🍴 bars outside restaurants near by and shopping centre. Also there are public transports next to it. A few buses and the metro link a few minutes enjoyable walk. Then you can see the media city and at night the night. Also the ship cannal there to see day or night 🌃.

We enjoyed our time at the Lowry gallery. It was wonderful to see his paintings up close. The lady there was especially helpful and informative. Will definitely come back.

First class painting exhibition of Lowry paintings linked with a whacky painter called Jock McFarland (not 100% sure of name). Courteous staff. Good toilets. Small snack bar.

Easy to get to and friendly staff. I visited the L S Lowry exhibition with many originals, a very interesting film and items belonging to the painter. Free entry, place to sit and reflect.

Good exhibition on at the moment, with an interactive aspect. The permanent collection of L.S Lowry’s works is impressive but overall the gallery is small and looks to be first and foremost a theatre. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Would have been nice had someone had the intelligence to update the website informing of the current closure of the WHOLE building and not just the live events. We wouldn't have traveled up from Buxton had this (important) information been available.

A friendly, creative & accessible place for everyone Situated on the waterfront in MediacityUK we are really easy to get to from Manchester City Centre either via bus or tram with parking available in the Lowry Outlet Mall. We are fully accessible with step free access, lifts enabling to all floors and accessible toilets throughout. Whether you’re in the area for the day with the family, visiting the galleries (home of one of the largest LS Lowry collections in the World) or attending a theatre performance, we can’t wait to welcome you to The Lowry!

The lowry is a lovely place to visit. The staff are very friendly and helpful. You have a great view of the stage wherever you sit(very comfortable seating) and the refreshments are very reasonably priced.there is a lot of stairs but also lifts so wheelchair access isn't a problem. The toilets where spotlessly clean and everywhere is signposted well. My only concern is the car parks. They are a few minutes walk from the theatre and they fill up rather quickly so you then have to park further away. You can however be dropped off / picked up a few feet from the foyer . There is also a taxi rank a few yards from the entrance.

A great day with the kids. A gorgeous Julia Donaldson's exhibition, lots of fun in the play area and at the play kitchen within the bar. I can see how it would be a great place to go and see a show and have some drinks beforehand.

Gorgeous theatre. Absolutely huge. Sound is amazing in there too. And staff and crew are fantastic, really helpful and made my night playing there a breeze. Great venue as a punter, one of Manchester’s finest.

Thoroughly enjoyed All about Jamie, but surprised to see very few people wearing masks in the auditorium.

A great theatre, modern, plenty of people around to help, great setting and plenty of food outlets very close. Parking nearby and that was good and easy too. Only fault - seats were plenty big enough and good leg room but I found them uncomfortable for my back - no lumbar support. However, that was fairly insignificant in the whole scheme of things. A good night out.

Parked easily at about 6:15. Had time for coffee and sandwich before the evening performance in the Lowry cafe near theatre shop. Staff were wonderful. Everything nice, clean and tidy.

Smiling staff courteous and welcoming into the upper level of museum. Entrance into the Lowry paintings, was a photo medley of 'What is family' . Great photo montage and many yellow sticker inputs by the public. Great place. Goodtoilet and good cafe

A must if you like Lowry. A great collection of his works and information about him. Also when we went had a lovely kids book exhibition - room on broom, you choose, wild and others with a toom dedicated to each. Cafe and theatre on site too.

went to see Sea Sick Steve. Great tickets nr the front and therefore good sound too. However found it a bit of a maze to work out where our seats were. First couple of attendants just tried to sit us down in entirely wrong seats and we were told to go to the wrong part of the theatre twice. The bar area was q large and relatively easy to get served....although shut q early. Id give the concert 5 but the theatre 3 For bigger gigs or shows id ensure that I was in my seat earlier

Excellent evening, very comfortable seating, lots of bars and accessible toilets. Helpful staff seating people arriving late. No photographing in the auditorium and phones turned off. Parking easy but expect to wait in long lines of people paying their parking fee after your events.

Wonderful theatre with really comfortable seats and great view's of the stage from all areas. Easy to find your way around with the simple and understandable signage. Great drink and snack options at the several bars with lovely attentive staff members from the main entrance right through to being shown to our seats. There are also bars and restaurants outside and within the shopping centre with carparking too. It really is a great place to visit.

Fantastic theatre in a lovely location. Lots of toilets for ladies, queues go down really quickly. Great, friendly staff, very helpful. Alcohol is pricey but expected. Taxi rank and lots of places to eat right outside for all budgets, including an Alchemist bar if you're fancying a cocktail. We got a taxi from Victoria train station and it was £12 between 5 of us.

Went to see Phil Wang, we didn't realise we had received an email with a change of time (the ticket sellers fault) Thankfully when got there they were able to accommodate us and we ended up with great seat to a hilarious show!

Went to see Everyone's talking about Jamie. Brilliant show, great venue. Just annoyed that no one was around to stop people on their phone during the performance. Lady in front of us went on her phone using Facebook about 8 times. Very annoying.

The Lowry Theatre at Salford Quays in Manchester is a fantastic cultural hub that offers a wonderful blend of performing arts and visual arts. It is a renowned venue that showcases a wide range of theatrical performances, including drama, dance, and comedy. Named after the famous artist L.S. Lowry, the theatre is a prominent landmark in the area. One of the highlights of the Lowry Theatre is the FREE Lowry Museum, situated upstairs. This museum is dedicated to the life and works of L.S. Lowry, showcasing a remarkable collection of his paintings, drawings, and other artistic pieces. It's a fascinating opportunity to delve into the world of this iconic artist and gain insights into Manchester's industrial heritage. If you're in need of a quiet spot to relax and unwind during the day, the Lowry Theatre is an excellent choice. There are cozy cafes where you can enjoy a cup of coffee. Additionally, there are bars where you can savor a refreshing beer while taking in the vibrant atmosphere of the quayside. What's more, the Lowry Theatre frequently hosts other free exhibitions, providing visitors with the chance to explore various forms of visual arts. These exhibitions cover a diverse range of themes and artistic styles, ensuring there's always something new to discover. When we visited, there was a children's book exhibition on, which was very colourful and interesting. p.s. They will check your bags at the entrance, so don't carry a big bag with you when visiting the venue.

A visit to the theatre to see fantastically great women, what a show, what a group of women who shaped our world. What a wonderful performance by the ladies who depicted those wonderful women in history. 😊

  • 5/5 Captain G. 5 months ago on Google
First visit. Wasn't expecting how big the venue was. Compared to other theatres I've been to this felt both modern and comfortable. The seats in the stalls were cushioned which is better than most theatres I've been to and ended up with a numb bum. The toilets were clean. There was a bar and various pop-up snack dispensers - the prices were high but I guess that gets ploughed back into the venue which was really nice.

  • 4/5 One S. 7 months ago on Google
The Lowry is one of the finest theatres in the UK. It is modern and is a popular place for live audience events and stage plays. Food: Apart from the theatre itself, there is an area for getting snacks, food, and drinks Location: The Lowry is pretty easy to locate and access. There is a bus stop and a tram station nearby as well as a paid car park. Ticket prices: The tickets differ based on the show but generally tickets are cheaper for weekday shows and you can buy them online I'll definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of theatre and live shows.

The Lowry has an incredible range of theatre, art, music and dance. It suits all ages. There is a warm friendly atmosphere. The Look Out is particularly special for families with children. We love attending performances, taking part in activities and just hanging out. Highly recommended.

Lovely albeit chaotic visit to the Julia Donaldson exhibition. I had thought it would be a little more structured and perhaps follow a route around but it was a free for all, and direction, and way and although my two boys loved it I found it all very stressful 🫣 it seemed so crowded it was hard to see any of the displays properly. The staff were so helpful and friendly in guiding us to the galleries.

  • 4/5 Anne-Marie S. 7 months ago on Google
Wow what can I say. I've seen a few things here before BUT tonight was something else. We saw everybody's talking about Jamie and what a show it was absolutely brilliant. Must say the seats looked super comfortable however after sitting in them for a few hours it does become quite uncomfortable but not unbearable. The staff on shift this evening was all professional and very helpful when needed. Will certainly be back to see more shows in the next 12 months. Please note photos added was taken during the interval and not during the show.

  • 5/5 Graham F. 8 months ago on Google
We visited the Julia and Axel exhibition at the Lowry. It is a free exhibition and is fantastic for all ages. It also includes the L.S. Lowry exhibition which is well worth a visit. You can easily spend a full day here because there is so much to see. It is ideal for kids to visit during the summer holidays and it is on until the start of January 2024. It is a well planned exhibition. Full marks to the organisers.

Love this theatre, it hasn’t got the same features other older theatres do, but the seats are comfy and you have much more space than other theatres! All the shows I’ve seen here, I’ve enjoyed and never had an issue with restricted views.

  • 5/5 David T. 1 year ago on Google
Seen a number of shows here... a great venue... comfortable seating, air conditioned, all levels accessible via lifts, stairs and slopes. A good location too in MediaCity... looks great at night all lit up. Good transport in and out too with plenty of car parks, the Metro and Buses. If arriving by car I'd recommend parking at the MediaCity multi-storey car park... about a ten minute walk away. It has over 6,000 spaces, is clean and well lit... always feel it is less congested at night as going for a show most park in The Lowry Outlet Car Park.

Brought the kids yesterday to see Julia Donaldson exhibition. I wasn't expecting much especially with it being free, but wow it was fantastic! Perfect for my 6+7 yr olds. 1.5y old loved it too. We also sat down in the cafe in the theater building, had a gorgeous hot chocolate and it's so child friendly. There was an area the kids could play on beanbags and a toy kitchen. We then went for a walk next to the canal and sat down for a bit. Perfect day out, highly recommended. Lowry is buggy friendly but you can't take it round the exhibition, you can leave it in the buggy park room inside though

  • 5/5 Graham D. 11 months ago on Google
Excellently presented range of Lowry's work, ranging from the expected to his exquisite drawings. The man had a sense of humour too. Free with a donation.

We saw The Mind Mangler and it was hysterically funny. We had a drink in the bath which was half the price of The Palace or The Opera House. Also the interval ice cream was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful but it was very hot.

  • 5/5 Ross P. 1 year ago on Google
Really nice venue, staff are usually nice, friendly and helpful. Shows a massive variety of shows between the large stage and the smaller stages elsewhere in the building. The bar is nice but very pricey, same can be said for the confectionery.

Beautiful building and venue with several theatres in the one location. Sitting looking over the river. Great for having pre drinks before your show. Large parking near by which you can have included with your ticket and the flow of the location is brilliant with bright coloured layout throughout and several bars and restaurants to choose from. Will be back and highly recommend

The lowry theatre is amazing! The shows they put on are perfect and the venue itself is kid friendly and let's the 'older' ones enjoy a delightful night out! They put on musicals, performances, and even art galleries. My favourite shoes that I've recently watched are Six, Blood Brothers and Clue!

  • 5/5 Julius A. 1 year ago on Google
An excellent venue. Great theatre and gallery space. Main performances in large theatre with superb sound and large staging space. Don't miss the other performances in their smaller theatre space at much reduced prices. Visibility is excellent. The first row of circle is great with no obstruction. Note that Phone signal inside main theatre is very poor.

Absolutely gorgeous place. Clean inside and out with a nice variety of different sized auditoriums to suit any and all types of entertainment. Most recently went into the studio, which I didn't even know existed. It's a lovely, small, intimate room that holds 100/120? Was perfect for standup. The bar has great views, and a choice of board games. It's amazing!!!

We had to be in Salford in the morning so drove up the previous day to avoid the morning traffic and stayed nearby ovenight. What to do on arrival a very wet afternoon? We dropped into the Lowry and were greeted at reception with a lovely welcome from a helpful receptionist, who gave us information of where to get a drink and a sandwich (perfectly acceptable and not over-priced) then where to go to see what the Lowry exhibition was like. It was fab-U-lous! In a quiet and almost deserted gallery, it was a treat to watch video footage of the great man at work, to see a good collection of his paintings and learn more about his rather tragic life.

Had a brilliant evening at the Lowery theatre. The staff were very help and approachable and the bar staff were excellent at managing a busy bar by making sure that customers were served quickly and efficiently. The acoustics in the theatre were excellent and the performance that we watched was fantastic. The theatre is on the Quays and the bridge and theatre look pretty spectacular at night. Parking cost £6 for the evening but there is also a metro close by. We're looking forward to our next visit.

Always had a great time when I've come here - staff have always been great. Inconsistent application of COVID policies though - in emails giving timed entries and asking people to wear masks throughout but not enforcing either. I've been to other theatres recently where this was handled much better. COVID issues aside, no negative experiences here at all, always enjoy the show!
