Casa Calaca

Restaurant Mexican restaurant

👍 Four of us went here for lunch after skiing Monarch. The decor is great, and the service was outstanding until we got our food. We had to track someone down to get the bill. The food and drinks are eclectic in the best way. There are lots of non-typical Mexican dishes from the Colorado norm.... People often mention Mexican, great,

This place is out of sight!!! The atmosphere is colorful and beautiful. The patio is a great place to hang out sipping on what are bird bath sized drinks! We had some street tacos. We got Chorizo, Chicken, and El Pastor. All three we order because it’s a great test as to how they cook their meats that tend to dry out. They didn’t disappoint as each were moist and juicy all wrapped up with a double corn tortilla just dripping with juicy love after taking a bite. Each were more Mexican authentic with simple onion & cilantro garnishment (THANK YOU!❤️👊). There were sides for lettuce and other accompaniments if the more American style and mood strikes you. Staff were welcoming and the place was spotless clean with a fun and vibrant collection of art throughout. Definitely coming back to this place!!!

New favorite spot for Mexican food! We were seated quickly by their friendly host. The service & food were great! My husband got the Calaca burrito & after finishing it claimed it was the best meal of his life. He rarely says anything like that ever. I enjoyed my chimichanga too!

Wow. I admit I didn't expect much. But the salsa was the best I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. The small Guacamole was HUGE. We had the street tacos al pastor and chorizo - both were wonderful and served with a smokey chipotle sauce. Also, there is a really lovely fenced in patio in the back with ~10 tables. Our server was friendly and sweet. I'm so glad we gave this place a chance after the long drive from Denver.

This is the best Mexican food in all of Salida. The star of the show here are the Mexican street tacos. They are very good and quite authentic. I got 4 of them: chicken, steak, pork, and beef tongue (pictured) and they were delicious! The servers were super friendly and happy. We also got a green taco (pictured). Never seen that before but it was fun. There’s was a lot of snow outside and it was cold. This town knows how to plow. I admire the dedication to providing quality Mexican cuisine during adverse weather conditions.

The food and drinks are eclectic in the best way. There are lots of non-typical Mexican dishes from the Colorado norm. I loved my burrito, but my wife didn't care for it. My classic margarita was very good, albeit a bit on the sweeter side. Definitely give this place a try!

This is best Mexican food I’ve had in the State of Colorado. I am compelled to leave a review! Since moving from Texas years ago, nothing has come close to the great food I often took for granted back home. Casa Calaca is the exception. It would easily compete with some of my favorites in my border State. The atmosphere is a 10/10. They play Tejano and many of the popular artists I am familiar with ie: Cristian Nodal. The margaritas are a 10/10. Say it with me, Colorado—FROZEN margaritas. The food is an 11/10. Splurge for the Molcajete. Simply one of the best things I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Cannot stop talking about this place and am smiling while writing this review because I love this place that much.

Best Mexican food ever! The cheese Enchilada with a side of rice is so amazing! 😋 The people are so nice! The atmosphere is so Mexican style! Love it! As an Origanal here definitely recommend the Enchiladas! On the California road trip my Mom and Grandma did we went to a lot of Mexican places and none beat Casa Calaca! 🌮

It was really good Mexican food for Colorado. The service was friendly but slow. I found this to be the case everywhere in Colorado. In Texas, salsa and chips are a food source. They are willing to keep refilling, but a bowl per person would be better. I had Carne Asada and my husband had the Hawaiian shrimp. Would definitely order again.

My wife and I were enjoying a warm evening in Salida and found this new gem on our way back to Buena Vista. What a wonderful place! The atmosphere is colorful and fun, the staff are attentive and polite, and the food is outrageously good. We’ll be back.
