We went to Red Iguana 2 on a recommendation from a friend and we are so glad we listened! The service was great and the food was delicious. What stuck me the most is the finely craft combination of unique flavors. I must also give a shout-out to our server, Manny for his margarita recommendation. A lot of times when I ask a server for their recommendations they will quickly suggest the top-shelf, most expensive items. Manny took a different approach and the margarita was spot-on perfect. Also, when I asked if adding the optional beans and rice to my enchilada entree would be too much to eat, he didn’t push the upswell, but instead explained the size of the entree and left the decision up to me. BTW, I’m glad I skipped the beans and rice because the enchiladas were more than plenty. I hope you enjoy your Red Iguana 2 experience as much as we did.

I live in Texas, where Mexican food is a big deal. I was super skeptical going for Mexican food in Utah. My expectations were pretty low. But I was pleasantly surprised. The food is fantastic. The menu is pretty extensive, perhaps even slightly overwhelming. The margaritas are on point. Even my kids enjoyed their meal, which doesn’t happen often. Can’t say I’ll be back, as I don’t live in Utah. But should I find myself back in Salt Lake, this place will be my first stop.

I’ve been coming to Salt Lake City for years, but I had never made it to the Red Iguana. I’m so happy I came at last — it was wonderful! The fun, bold, cheery ambiance, the impeccable service, and the FOOD. Wow! Chips and salsa were brought to the table immediately, and my beer quickly followed. I knew I wanted one of their famous mole dishes, but the wealth of choices made choosing a challenge. When I asked my fabulous waiter Victor about the differences, he brought me a dish that had a taste of all of the mole sauces. Now that is extraordinary service! I chose the Mole Poblano with chicken and savored every bite. It may be the best I’ve ever had, surpassing even what I ate in Puebla, Mexico, the origin of this mole. I ended the meal with a takeout order of flan, served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. It did not disappoint! I simply can’t recommend this restaurant strongly enough.

The food was fantastic. I had the Enchiladas Amarillos the sauce is so good! We really enjoyed the patio seating and the great service provided by the wait staff. Every plate we saw pass by looked so good we were asking our waitress what certain dishes were.

Expect to wait if you’re going at an hour when other people eat. It’s delicious and busy, and worth the wait. A local favorite with so many delicious options. I love the green sauce with chips and often find myself craving it when it’s been too long since I’ve had it. I don’t ever remember to take photos of my food, because I’m too busy eating it. Close to the train tracks, which adds entertainment to an already colorful establishment. Many drink options and a full menu of top Mexican favorites. Chips and salsa, but do yourself a favor and add the green sauce, a chimichanga, and a beer, paired with friends or family, and your night will be made.

Due to the long wait I ended up at their 2nd location. After a short wait I was seated at the bar and enjoyed a nice drink and one of the best meals I've had in SLC. I can now understand the long wait time which I do not mind as long as the food is delicious! This is definitely a must when you are in town.

A very busy place but we had a margarita at the bar while waiting. The fajitas were tasty as were the chips and salsa. The only down side is rice and beans are extra. Worth checking out if you like good Mexican food.

The food and drinks are just as good as the original location, just in a bigger, more ventilated space with concrete floors. Really well done. Friendly service and food comes out of the kitchen just as quickly as the original Red Iguana. I have now made SLC my final stop on western road trips mainly because I know I will end my trip with a big authentic Mexican dinner at Red Iguana. It is outstanding.

I visited Red Iguana for lunch around noon. As a solo diner, I was promptly seated despite the restaurant being quite busy at that hour (consider making a reservation). I was promptly served with fresh chips and salsa upon seating. Opting for the mixed platter (Red Iguana) as my main course turned out to be an excellent choice. The plate offered a delightful assortment of 4 or 5 different dishes (not including the accompanying rice and beans). It was a fantastic opportunity to sample their standout dishes. The meal arrived promptly, and the attentive server checked on me several times to ensure I had everything I needed. The pricing was also quite reasonable. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment. Just a friendly tip: given the generous portions, try not to overindulge in the chips and salsa at the start!

Fantastic. They said it would be a 25 minute wait but it ended up being more like 5. The service was super fast and friendly. The food came out very quickly and was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The Mole was phenomenal. And the mushroom Al ajillo to die for delicioso 😋

No wonder this place was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives show. This place is the real deal if you want extremely tasty Mexican food. First thing, make a reservation advance! Especially for dinner, it’s almost impossible to get seated without a reservation that day. Staff were very friendly and checked on us often to refill waters and get us drinks and more chips and salsa. They bring out complementary chips and salsa that is honestly the best that I have ever had. The chips are super crispy and well salted, and the salsa is surprisingly spicy yet boasting a lot of roasted and fresh flavors. I went with their tacos don Ramon, and my friend went with their chicken and steak fajitas. You can’t go wrong with either option. The tacos, while looking like entirely filled with lettuce at first, actually have a ton of beautifully seasoned and tender steak and chorizo. The tortillas themselves are lightly fried to that they’re in between us often a crunchy taco shell. It’s served with a tangy green sauce, a big jalapeño, and a bed of fresh pico de gallo. The fajitas are also excellent. A big portion of sizzling chicken, steak, and onions are served with tortillas, guacamole, and pico. In the end, I highly recommend this if you are looking for the best Mexican food that Utah has offer. There’s no wonder this place and it’s sister restaurant have been voted as some of the top restaurants in Utah time and time again.

Stopped in to grab a late dinner after work. Decided on a jalapeño margarita, which was almost the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, and the Mole Coloradito. The mole was some of the best I’ve tasted and the carnitas were juicy and tender. And it came with the standard chips and (very tasty) salsa, and a side of rice and beans. I didn’t leave hungry!

Everything about Red Iguana 2 is exceptional: the delicious food, fantastic service of the staff and the charming atmosphere and decor. I highly recommend the mole and the huevos motulenos. This is the perfect spot to relax, unwind and enjoy some fantastic Mexican food.

Best for having mole. I had mole chicken. It was delicious. I love the tortillas, they were fluffy and perfect with mole. Atmosphere is excellent. They have option of open air area to dine. Service was excellent. Server was attentive and he also follow up if there is any additional items we need. Must visit this place. Thank you!

I had been to the original Red Iguana but hadn’t been here yet until my latest visit to Salt Lake City. # 2 did not disappoint. The food was excellent, as was the service. I’ll be back on our next visit to SLC for sure. Highly recommended.

Red iguana is my favorite place in Salt Lake for Mexican food. Normally I get the same dishes, but this time I decided to try something new. I ordered the mango enchiladas & they were phenomenal. I definitely have another favorite now that I've tried it, but honestly I've never had anything I didn't enjoy from the menu

I've eaten here several times and the food is amazing! I ordered the Red Iguana tacos with chicken. Very delicious. I asked for no tomatoes and there were not tomatoes anywhere. The service was fast and prompt and they were extremely efficient.

Chips and salsa...nailed it. Enchilada was good with shredded beef. Enchilada sauce was sweet and not really my style. The chicken flauata was dry and had to use table salsa to get it to go down. Chile relleno was tasty though.

Authentic Mexican food; they even cater to those with dietary restrictions (such as gluten-free). Our appetites were very satisfied. Only thing is it’s located in a sketchy area.

The fried ice cream was very good, the outside shell reminded me of a churros. The tres leches was extremely disappointing. They are obviously not homemade, it's like they made a horribly bland chocolate muffin. It's made with evaluated milk rather than sweetened condensed. The tacos were good but the overall the experience was disappointing. You can find better tacos in West Valley or at a taco truck and the server took forever to take our order.

We went with a large party on a busy night. Our reservation was honored in a timely manner and we were promptly seated when our party arrived. Our waitress was very helpful in taking drink, appetizer, and food orders. She was obviously very busy in her section of the restaurant, waiting on no less than 3 other large parties like ours. Nonetheless, service was prompt and friendly. The food was terrifically presented and delicious. Red Iguana's interpretation of mole is probably the best in a major area restaurant and they have several delicious options. The waiting area was cramped with people who didn't make reservations. Outdoor heating is not available so plan ahead! Red Iguana is a place to eat a great meal and enjoy time with a group. I wouldn't come here for the bar or to vibe on casual dishes. Great job, Red Iguana!

Everything we tried was great from the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa on the table to the dessert. I heard about Red Iguana being good but I had no idea how good. I went with a friend and spent around $65 for an appetizer, 2 alcoholic beverages, 2 entrees, 1 side, and dessert. I left feeling satisfied and full. I could barely finish my food but I wasn't trying to leave any of that delicious food on the table. Overall 10 out of 10!

We tried this place out based on the show's recommendation, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They weren't wrong, this place is awesome! Their Mole is really good and their salsa, well, we bought a quart of it to go! The staff were all super friendly, we went twice in 1 week for to-go orders and everyone was great. The 2nd night I went back to the car and they brought everything out to me. We definitely recommend!

This spot came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Everything we had was delicious. Definitely ask for the mole sampler plate to taste all the sauces.
