This was one of my favorite museum experiences I’ve ever been able to participate in. The walking amount can be a bit of a struggle for those with lesser endurance, but even then, slopes are gradual, elevators are available, and the entirety of the exhibits, save for a couple optional locations, appeared to be easy enough to navigate and handicap-friendly. The stories and presentations were excellently captured, and they made it very easy to discern between interactive and non-interactive attractions and displays. Fun for any age, with lots of visual, auditory, and tactile interactions throughout. Set aside a good 2-3 hours if you want to see everything and experience things wholly. We spent 2 and a half hours here and ended up having to be rushed out at closing time half-way through the Colors exhibit. Absolutely worth the time, the travel, and the visit.

The dinosaur exhibit is wonderful. I love the gemstone exhibit too. I also enjoy the geology exhibit that traces the history of Utah through millions of years of massive change. The museum regularly hosts visiting exhibits from all over the world. I recommend going during these times. There are also interactive activities for children in the mornings and at scheduled times. In other words, to get the most out this museum, you should look at their event schedule and plan ahead.

Had a great time here with my two small kids. Lots of steps but there was an elevator for the stroller that was quick and convenient. The dinosaur exhibit was a little hard to find and my husband ended up having to go back through with our 5yr old to find it before we left. Some of the hands on features didn’t work but most did and they were fun for everyone. The staff were helpful and our toddler was free. The gift shop is pricey but had some great stuff that the kids are still enjoying weeks later.

This museum is amazing. I love how it's laid out, and it definitely looks like a canyon on the inside. You can go to the cafe without a ticket, if you want. But the museum is so worth the price. There's 5 floors with so much information. I loved the mineral area, and the dinosaurs from a local quarry were also great to look at. The native voices exhibit is so informative, and definitely worth the stop. Parking is free, and they have a good lot with ramps. The views from the cafe are great, and they gave bathrooms near the elevator exits.

Breath-taking place. You'll dive deep into the history of Utah. It'll surely give you a serotonin boost. The palaeontology section is mind blowing. Loved their collection. The dinosaur's bones are marvellous. Their mineral collections are also praise-worthy. You'll need 3-4 hour min to visit the place. They have a cafe on the ground floor. The ticket fee is $20 for outsiders, free if you have a student pass (of the U) Highly recommended place.

This is a great museum! In a beautiful building with amazing views, this bolsters also some great exhibits as well. From the natural history of Utah and the special collection of Jane Goodall, this is a perfect place for all ages. We did get a good discount for being students, but I would for sure come back with new exhibits in the future. The gift shops also have lots of great options.

Beautiful museum with lots of exhibits. Highly recommend! If you go during the warm seasons it's right next to the red butte gardens, which is also nice to do. Lots of the displays had interactive, hands on activities, fun for kids and adults it took me about an hour to go through the exhibits but one could easily spend a few hours here.

Amazing place to take your dinosaur enthusiast! My kids love it here. They have multiple levels with different exhibits. Interactive displays for hands on learning and to ease your mind, hand sanitizer everywhere!

Beautiful building, lots to see, great for all ages. The Ancient Egypt exhibit was good but I've seen much better. There's only one mummy and we were hoping to see more. Otherwise it was well mapped out. They limited the amount of people inside which definitely helped keep it from being uncomfortably crowded.

Architectural jewel abuts the mountain-side overlooking Salt Lake City. Comprehensive exhibit on local first nation tribes is a must see, and floors on flora and fauna, rock formation and the dinosaur era are well curated and enough to interest both the young and old. Well worth a visit. Loved the dioramas. The cafe was being remodeled during our visit so pack snacks for the kids!

Really enjoyed my experience at the Natural History Museum of Utah earlier today. I was surprised at how large the building was up on the hill behind the University of Utah and right next to Red Butte Garden. The Nature of Color exhibit had me hooked. This seemed to be the most crowded area and it was interactive. I also enjoyed the other exhibits, but I was especially drawn to The Nature of Color.

This museum is actually smaller than I thought but absolutely worth it. I like going to different museums while I travel for work because no matter how many of the same things you see there is always some amazing one off things each museum has to offer. This museum doesn’t let down on this idea. They have a really fantastic Native American masterpiece that is small but really packed with information, antiques, and pictures. This museum has a tiny section for stuffed animals when compared to San Diego or DC, but the few they have are really well presented and done well. The dinosaur section is jam packed with different animals and dinosaurs that it is overwhelming. I had to slow down in this section to really see all the amazing items they have here. Here are a couple things they I found really amazing and have not seen this at other natural history museums. 1) the collection of eggs and turtle shells and they way they are presented. 2) the collection of triceratops’s heads from different types and how they are hung on the wall - breathe taking.. 3) the roof top access has a really great view of the valley. This place is really great for kids. There are a lot of displays and items for kids to look at, to do, or learn about. One thing that was strange to me was how small their museum shop was and they did not have magnets or stickers about the museum. I collect some of this type of stuff and couldn’t find anything in the shop to pick up. ☹️ Got a couple hours to kill? Why not check it out.

This was an amazing experience! The architecture and exhibits are spectacular. I would totally share pictures of them, but it would just spoil the magic! I also really enjoyed the outdoor decks that give an awesome view of the salt lake city skyline. It was fun for myself, and the rest of my family. Very fun, and I would definitely go here again in the future.

Wow!! This museum is AMAZING!! My husband & I, our 8 year old son & 15 year old daughter stayed a little over 6 hours!! Easily could have stayed longer. Soooo many dinosaur 🦕 bones!! Such a beautiful museum. Saw a couple animal presentations from the Wild Side with Alex. I loved all the gems! Hubby loved the Native American displays. Truly a place to check out!

Did you know that pterodactyls are not dinosaurs! This is a lovely museum nestled right up next to the mountains. The layout is designed masterfully. It is the perfect afternoon activity! Please do not smell the dinosaur meal…..ugh. You will also learn about the difference between mastodons and woolly mammoths! Well worth the price!

We went in during winter break, and it looks like others had the same idea, too! It's been a long time since I've visited the Natural History Museum, and I loved seeing all the new additions. Of course, the classic dinosaur area is always a win in my book. We enjoyed walking through the Cambodian exhibit named Angkor. Lots of cool artifacts! There are five levels of pure fun and subjects to explore. Our 2 year old loved her experience! There is even a play area with water and boats for little ones. They were a success! Lastly, we enjoyed stopping by the store and buying gifts for a very reasonable price. 10/10 recommended if you are in the Salt Lake City area!

Great collection of dinosaur fossils, for dinosaur lovers. 😍🦕🦖 It's amazing to learn how many species have been discovered in Utah. The information providing context about Utah's changing ecosystem over millions of years is plentiful and very interesting. I enjoyed the overall design of the building, making it easy to visit the different exhibits as a continuous path. There are interactive displays for kids (and adults!) like one to see erosion in real time. Another amazing one is a touchscreen that allows you to explore the tree of life. Try finding humans! 🦠🌱🦀🦤🌵🐪🦐🍄🐝🪲🪴🌲 Finally, the exhibits with Native American art and artifacts also include informative and enjoyable videos of Native Americans explaining some of their traditions and current challenges. 👌

I haven't been to a natural history museum since I was a kid, so this was a fun experience. The venue is modern and well staged with a plethora of information and visual stimulation. It is adjacent to a lovely botanical garden venue so we combined the trip and had a wonderful few hours.

We were very surprised with the size and the material this museum had to offer. We easily spent about 3 hours in the museum but we could certainly spend more if we had more energy. We actually ended up taking some pictures of the texts to read later at home. Amazing material showcasing the history of Utah, the actual city and many other cool chronological geology! We certainly learned a lot!

I love seeing the history of Native Americans, and also the fossils of dinosaurs that was found here in Utah. It was amazing to see them. It was my first time seeing and going to the National History Museum of Utah. I would definitely come back here. I never saw a dinosaur fossil in my life. Only now thats why this will be a memorable day for me.

Beautiful museum, may not have tons of stuff like other ones but there are good items on display. Leans a BIT towards adult side than children with all the description and items on display but saw plenty of young ones having a fun time. Very clean and orderly. On weekends, bring food with you because cafe closes. Went to this museum when Egyptian items were on display. Superb stuff. The architecture of this place is also worth visiting. Very close to red butte gardens so you can plan a whole day trip around this place.

This is a really cool museum. One of the best dinosaurs exhibits I've ever seen so many fossils and they let you walk up a bridge to the next section the other sections are cool too but I can't stress how cool the dinosaur section is you can spend the entire time just in that section and you'd still get your money's woronnie's work the building itself is cool architecturally and has well architecturally and has great views of the city as it is up I'm 1 of the mountain sides stop by here if you like museums dinosaurs or dinosaurs or have children you're looking to do something with in the city

Mine and my youngest son's first experience at a Natural History Museum. We were not disappointed. It was truly amazing. Between all the dinosaur skeletons, the wild life section, and the history of the Indians in Utah, it was all an amazing experience. Plus, the view of Salt Lake City is incredible.

Super fun experience for the whole family. We had 3 generations there and I think all of us had a really great time. The exhibits were interactive and really enjoyable and educational. The staff was really welcoming. The museum as a whole was really quite accessible which is important for our family. The gift shop has some really unique, cool local treasures. Nice to not have as crowded compared to pre covid. Some interactive exhibits are closed off like the sand and water erosion table, a few are modified like the climate change game only one group at a time. Antarctic exhibit is cool! They also added seismic charts from the windstorm september 2020 which was pretty cool. Now exhibits use a stylus to interact rather than touching with a finger.

Native American indigenous peoples on top, an observation deck looks out over the Salt Lake Valley. Dinosaur on a level some play and Interactive for the children. Wild life exhibits on one floor. A great walk through history. Everyone should visit if not once, many times. Gift shop and food court are here to.

An incredible museum, fun for both adults and children. They feature new specialized exhibits about every 6 months which is nice to see and learn about new subject matter. They have very knowledgeable guides and people who are part of the exhibits that can give wonderfully detailed explanations of what you are looking at. Highly recommend this as a place to spend 2-4 hours depending on the pace with which you walk and read and comprehend what you see! Also, if you have kids that love dinosaurs, they have one of the best Dino exhibits I’ve ever seen, definitely worth going!

You can purchase tickets in advance or in the lobby. This museum has five levels to explore. I finished the museum in an hour. The exhibits were great to look at but I was rather surprised to see how small the minerals section was, knowing how vast Utah contains in diverse minerals I expected more. This location is great for families as there are many children friendly exhibits. There is also a bus stop nearby that can take you back to Temple North.

I would ask you to try to go to this museum a little earlier because it close pretty early so I think you’ll need like two hours to enjoy it in a full depth. There was an exhibit of a scientist who lived with monkeys. It was a really cool exhibit. Buying tickets is very easy at the door. However, they don’t have student prices so if your student having your student ID as you want to anything, unless you are a student of university of Utah. If you really want to see the information about dinosaurs, highly would advise you to go to this museum $23 ticket is very well for this museum.

One of the best museum I had ever visited! The architect design is meaningful! Highly suggest to visit from top down and spend $2 to get the audio device! I love they build the Indian history and culture exhibition on the top, very symbolic! As always, love the dinosaurs!!

I am glad that we had a chance to visit the museum. We visited a few museum on this trip. Utah has a very large amount of dinosaur bones and varieties due to the special condition at the time of their demise. This museum starts at the top with more modern geological displays as well as Native American culture, and as you physical go lower, the farther back in time you go. The building is artistic, you will loved it.

My favorite part was the Native American artifacts. A lot of the science exhibits are hands on / oriented for younger children. They also have an impressive array in of gems and minerals - many of which I had never heard of, but were very pleasing to the eye. It was quite expensive, and closes right at 5. I would have liked more time to explore the upper levels.

  • 5/5 Nean H. 2 years ago on Google
We love the museum! Great exhibits for all ages, and the rotating special exhibits are always really cool. My daughter will literally spend the entire day here if I let her, and even though I've got most of the full time exhibits memorized at this point, I still enjoy it too. In some ways I miss the old building (the minerals exhibits in particular feel like a bit of a downgrade), but overall the new building is pretty spectacular.

Very nice museum with tons of interesting things to look at. We were there on a weekday when some schools were there. Had it not been for all the kids I believe we would have been the only ones there. Rocks and minerals were very interesting as well as all the fossils and dino bones. We had a great time and would recommend this as a stop for any traveler.

The Natural History Museum of Utah is a sensational interactive destination in Salt Lake City. A visually stunning building set at the base of the Wasatch Mountains is home to dinosaurs, rocks & minerals, animals and indigenous peoples. At the start of the museum, a hands-on kiosk guides even the smallest of guests to the museum level that most interests your blossoming Biologist, Paleontologist, Naturalist, Historian, or Geologist. This way, if time is limited, make a bee-line for target areas. Engaging all five senses, visitors can smell extinct flora and fauna; dig for fossils; engage Paleontologists at work; draw dinosaurs; jump to create seismic waves; assemble cells and DNA strands; observe ants; touch a snake, and so much more! Before or after entrance, trails open up to the majesty of Utah's natural wonders for hikers and bikers alike. Be sure to pack sunscreen and good shoes! Whether there's an hour or all day, don't miss this gem. It's in the top 10 "things to do in Salt Lake City" for a reason. 10/10 recommend!

  • 5/5 Marlon L. 10 months ago on Google
Incredible natural history museum. It incorporates all your senses except taste. It has beautiful story telling with graphs, pictures, and objectives, and it invites the museum goer to engage in the scientific process. For example, it presents the evidence of a mass dinosaur death bed, and we are encouraged to solve this murder mystery.

Went during dinosaur festival which was pretty fun. Remember that this is the natural history museum, not a dinosaur museum so it covers native Americans, the history of native utah, even the dinosaurs are all native in Utah. Very fun experience I would recommend. I only planned on staying 2 hours, my 4 year old insisted on staying and stayed focused and occupied for 5 hours.

This is the best museum we’ve ever visited ! Kids had an amazing time ! Place was in pristine condition, my little paleontologist was in awe ! Native American exhibit was excellent ! Museum is huge, 5 levels, all each have a little outdoor patio with stuff to read. Don't lose your ticket cause it's also the key to get in an out from the patios. Lots of interaction rooms, areas and monitors. When you enter there's a cute quiz that suggests where to start. We didn't listen an started on level 5 an worked our way down and across. There's stairs an elevators. Next to the elevators on each level are restrooms. It took us about 3-4 hours to complete the museum an shop the gift shop. There's much to look at. Native american, fossils, dinosaurs, geology, the earth with minerals and plate tectonics, animals/insects, DNA, micro biology, and human/ animal evolution. An a mini zoo. I'd definitely check it out.

This is based on their current covid scheduling. When you pay for a time slot it gives you an hour time range to arrive by. We drove there and were told we could not go in, even with paid tickets and within the time frame we signed up for. The confirmation emails do not mention you have to arrive by certain time only a time range for us 1pm-2pm, the next session was already full so we couldn’t even get in for hours. Frustrating especially for families driving far and having to walk out with kids who don’t understand why we can’t go inside.

We had a delightful time at the Natural History Museum see the Antarctic dinosaur exhibit. And since I drove down from Ogden, and unfortunately left my mask at home, I called and asked if the museum had masks available at the front desk and was politely told yes. Upon arriving I was given an envelope with a material reusable mask with the honey bee print and was delighted to be treated with concierge-level service.

Allosaurus beats the crud out of a Tanycolagreus. Allosaurus was one of the most fearsome predatory dinosaurs in the Jurassic Period. So instead of hunting fully grown adult herbivores, Allosaurus may have focused the hunt on juvenile prey. Allosaurus is like a real life version of the Indoraptor. Allosaurus 2 meters tall 8 meters long, 1.5 tons. Indoraptor was 3 meters tall 8 meters long and weighed about a ton.

Such a wonderful museum in a beautiful location. I've visited here a few times, with the most recent being to see their 'Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed' exhibition. The layout of the exhibits was the perfect balance of being visually stimulating, while also easy to follow. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The architecture takes full advantage of natural light and borrows on many of Utah's natural environmental strengths. Not only is the museum itself a great place to visit, but touring the grounds outside on a clear day is a wonderful treat in itself.

Be it student of archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, or just a spectator interested in the history of the native people of Utah and/or the prehistory of Earth before man, this is an incredible museum! Such an in depth examination of the clothes, artifacts, tools etc of the Utes and Navajos, complete with video footage and interviews of Native American people explaining what their history means to them. And of course, my favorite part, the floor dedicated to the dinosaurs! The displays of the dream-like titans that dominated the planet with colossal strides fill me with awe when I walk on that floor! And I keep looking forward to coming here again and again!

This museum is really good for knowing about evolution. The museum exibit a lot of evolutoionary evidence using dionesour or other reptiles fossiles. I love the way museum shows are human cusins and negibours using ancestry trees from millions of years. I really love the museum the way it organizes the skulls if different kind of dinesours and their relations. The museum has entry fee about 15 bucks but it will be worthy to see those evoloutionary evidence. It is very kid friendly and kids can a lot of things about science here.

Really great - this is a multilevel, highly interactive and children friendly place!

Absolutely worth it. With a strong cup of coffee and a good pair of walking shoes you can easily spend the whole day. With children under the age of seven probably two hours max. Other than the freakish white taxidermy animal eyes and some of the creatures this place was fabulous. But those eyes have to be exchanged with something less nightmarish

This was a fantastic experience on our recent road trip from Washington state to Louisiana, we stopped in Salt Lake City for the night and came here the next day. We took our 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. On this 16 day road trip, we have been to multiple museums and I would say this was by far our favorite.

Expensive but worth it. Artistic, eye-catching, engaging displays. I loved the soaring ceilings and the dinosaur world. Wow! It took my breath away.

We were not prepared for what a magnificent place this was. We only gave ourselves 2.5 hrs which was not enough time to do even one complete floor let alone 4. This is a must visit if you love history and science.

Great exhibits and very informative about the region. Enjoyed the inclusiveness of the Native and First People perspective. Layout was great and easy to follow with a good flow between exhibits.

We were passing through from California and had to stop here... and it is by far the coolest museum we have been to! The amount of skeleton specimens they have is incredible

As a visitor from Los Angeles, CA I am a huge fan of the natural history museum there. However I have to say I was absolutely blown away with a wonderful exhibits and the architecture that is the museum itself! I visited during the pandemic and the museum made excellent adjustments to ensure social distancing as well as a hands-free experience via the use of stylus pens to interact with the exhibits.

Very clean and over all a wonderful place to take the kids. A lot of interactive exhibits that the kids really enjoyed. We didn’t get to experience some exhibits that were temporarily closed due to COVID. The reason I am giving a 3 star review is because at the end I wanted to get some items from the gift shop. I didn’t see any signage that said “cards only”. It also didn’t state on the website at the time, that they do not accept cash. We did our shopping and the kids got to pick out an item. Then proceeded to pay and was told they can only expect cards. This was very disappointing to the kids as well as embarrassing for me. I get really annoyed when our currency is not accepted especially though a government funded facility.
