We booked a “King suite with sofa bed” via booking.com and specifically booked for 3 people. When we arrived we were given a room with a queen bed and no sofa bed, that could not have slept 3 people. The management admitted that they had made a mistake in room allocation, but initially only offered for us to purchase another room for $65 or to refund us the extra charge for a 3rd person or to give us a full refund and we can go elsewhere. This was not what I’ve seen other hotels do, usually if there’s a mistake like this they will comp you another room, but the management was completely inflexible and weirdly insistent that they “can’t just give a room for free.” We were very flexible and open to any method that would allow sleeping 3 people, including a cot or switching rooms, but they refused to appropriately give us what we paid for. Even after a lot of back and forth we ended up having to pay $30 extra on top of what we originally paid for another room so we could fit 3 people. So, if you’re booking this type of room or booking for more than 1-2 people, I would not risk going here and being stuck with the inflexible management if you get the wrong room type. On the other hand, if I had booked a queen room, it was a perfectly fine, quiet, large, clean room with free coffee near the airport. I wouldn’t book here if you’re a group given this issue I had.

Gateway Inn by SFO has fine rooms and is conveniently located close to SFO. My issue with the hotel is their service. In my particular case, I planned to check in late (the hotel has a policy that guests need to check in by 4am), but my flight to SFO was delayed by 5 hours. So when I arrived at Gateway Inn at 5am, I was told at the desk that my initial reservations was forfeited and that my only other option if I wanted a room was to book another reservation that would require me to be out of my room at 11am the same say, just 6 hours later. I've asked Gateway to refund me my initial reservation cost, and they have declined. I even messaged them ahead of time to let them know my flight was late (see attached picture). Perhaps my experience is a unique one and will have no bearing on your stay at Gateway, but I feel compelled to share what feels to me a deeply unfair decision by the hotel.

No no no. DO NOT BOOK. NO SHUTTLES. BED SHEETS NOT WASHED. ICE MACHINE BROKEN. HEATER VERY LOUD THE ROOM SMELLED LIKE CIGARETTES. AND THE REFRIGERATOR WOULDNT GET COLD. I SPOKE WITH THE MANAGER about my stay and she said if I kept complaining she was going to keep my deposit. Which she did. I am very dissapointed as I Am Indian American and she treated me like a second class citizen.

Cute little hotel with spacious rooms, bay windows, fridge and microwave, great water pressure, and comfortable beds. My room on the 3rd floor was clean and very quiet. Excellent value for money!

The room was ok. The bed had a dip in it, the lights kept flickering and the tub wouldn't hold water. Room 302.

They cancelled our reservation with less than 24 hours notice saying "no rooms were available" even though we booked months ago

Only thing is, wish there was an airport shuttle... The price of the Uber, makes it more than the hotel next door that happens to have an airport shuttle. Rooms here are also,,, right on a BUSY 4 lane road.. You need to be real tired to sleep during the day here... Also need to have tv turned way up!.. Sure hope it quotes down at night... oops (6 lanes )

The room was very nice and the bed was super comfortable!! Someone outside was having a party or something and it was so noisy until about 4:30 in the morning. But I didn’t take a star away because it’s not the hotel’s fault. The young man at the night counter was super kind too!

I stayed in room 204, bathroom curtain had mold, bedsheets had 2 small blood stains and looked like sheets had not been changed. Convenient location but they need to do better housekeeping

If you value sleep and hygiene, don’t stay here. Filthy shower curtain covered in mold, hair in the tub. Woken up at 11:30pm by the front desk regarding a billing mistake they made. No sound proofing between rooms. Never again.

I think this hotel is a good and reasonable choice for travelers who are somewhat familiar to San Francisco area. It is alongside El Camiro Real (82), running parallel to Bayshore Free Way (101), and is near San Bruno Caltrain station and also walking distance from San Bruno BART station, in front of which is a big Target store. Compared to hotels in San Francisco, the room rate is lower but it is as comfortable as most hotels.

Check in was easy and the attendant was kind and fast. The rooms are surprisingly very large and roomy as well as clean and well lit. I appreciate the cold refrigerator. The water is hard so if you're not used to it, you might feel "slick" or as if you still have soap on yourself still, but it's just the water and not a problem at all. The bed was very comfortable and the AC was STRONG (easy to control and worked quickly). Didn't use the TV at all but was a nice size and I liked that it was placed in front of the bed. The towels were a little rough but that's not really a big problem, they're hotel towels after all. Check out was simple and I would definitely recommend to anyone staying in SF, especially with its price and location by the airport.

This hotel is older with some basics like the bed, restroom and small parking area but aged. When I first arrived it had a smell especially near the elevator but not in the hallway nor my room. I was on the 3rd floor (only 3 floors) you can hear a lot from the room whether its on the streets, people walking in the hallway or the airplanes flying overhead. On my 3rd day the elevator wasn't working which is the only way in or out of the hotel unless you take the Emergency Exit stairs. Since that day I have only taken the stairs. Despite these things it's conveniently located near the freeways, Tafaran Mall, Safeway, Trader Joe's, In and Out Burger and other retail and food places. It's with a residential area, Chevron Gas and Car Wash Next door with a fire station across the street. The area seems safe. It was doable for my needs because I only rested and slept there. It's not a place to eat, socialize, enjoy the scenery nor for families with kids because it's small and quaint.

The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. You will hear planes overhead from time to time but that was fairly minimal noise. The initial young lady who checked us in seriously knows the definition of customer service. She made suggestions about restaurants in the neighborhood and addressed our needs professionally and expeditiously. The room rate was unbeatable. Only reason it's not a 5 star rating is because the second clerk at reception wasn't quite as "with it" and there was a glitch with the elevator that left members of my party stuck on upstairs for a few minutes because they weren't in a position to take the stairs. Also, bring your own bar of soap as the soap is not so good.

Stayed for 9 nights in end of July and had a nice experience. Reasonable price. Very friendly & informative staff. Clean & big room with some amenities (microwave & coffee machine) though I wish there were electrical kettles. Location is not that convenient if you don't have a car but still it's near SFO & downtown San Bruno. Bus station's a block away and Caltrain station's 3-4 blocks away. Overall I would recommend this place if you're looking for a budget hotel.

This is a clean well kept secure property. The room was spacious, very clean and up to date; for instance, good lighting, plenty of outlets etc. The common areas leading to rooms are open and airy with natural light from skylights. great value.

Exceptional rooms I gotta say, clean, quiet and spacious! I was in need of an airport hotel during my stay for work and this was greater than what I had expected. 5-6 minutes from the airport, near plenty of restaurants and next door to an IHOP for breakfast. Front desk was helpful and the price was more than fair. Really recommend this hotel!

This was such a great find! Literally just outside the airport. Staff was incredibly nice. Covered and well lit parking garage. Room was very clean. Best part was the water pressure in the shower. Nice little coffee machine in the room. This was perfect after traveling for 12 hours. Walking distance to breakfast locations as well.

We were surprised at how large our room was. It was absolutely beautiful! This hotel was conveniently located by the airport which was perfect for us since we had a very early flight. It was very quiet though sand we didn't hear a single plane The parking was also convenient. I'd highly recommend!

DO NOT GO THERE!!! We had booked 2 rooms and they bed bugs in both of the rooms for my employees and husband. They had to leave at 5:15am on 4/14 to head into work and could not let management know. We tried calling to get help and change at least the pillows last night and Nikki said that there we no more pillows? I asked her to please check and she said she was by herself and could not leave. I encouraged her after I said I was going to call the manager in the morning and she said she would she if she could find some pillows somewhere????? By the time she arrived both of the occupants were already in bed. They used towels to make up for the disgusting sleeping areas. We got in the hotel late the next night after working a full day. I called the next morning and spoke to Just the manager and she informed me that they needed to do a room inspection with a Manager. However, they did not offer to do a room inspection and there were no managers to inspect so that story was inaccurate. Two of the three occupants got attacked by the infestation of the bugs. We work at a very high end new construction building and there was no chance of this happening anywhere but the rooms. They left early this morning and said goodbye. Judy seems to think since my crew said goodbye that there were no problems. They were being kind and didn't speak much English. I only asked to have 1 night refunded due to the disgusting nature versus the 2 nights for both rooms. Judy said there were no bed bugs this morning when they checked and basically said we were lying. BBB will be notified as well.
