Excellent experience, you must take the tour to get the most out of the museum, it is very good. Excellent hot chocolate, 70% was the best. Amazing single origin chocolate.

What an awesome experience! The staff are so friendly and informed. It is a guided tour ($50 per person )through their displays, which lasts about 30 mins, and includes two rooms. The tour guide answered our questions and explained the relevance of cocoa in the Mayan and Spanish eras, as well as the process of making chocolate. Then you get to taste both chocolate drink and a huge range of chocolate bars, including rosemary chocolate, banana chocolate and lemon grass chocolate. The service was fantastic, and the place is such a quaint little spot. They also have a cafe service, offering cold and hot drinks.

Can’t recommend this highly enough! Not only are the chocolate samples delicious, but the history of cacao is so interwoven with the history of the region that we felt like we had a much better understanding of Chiapas by the time we left. The guided tour (available in English and Spanish) was absolutely worth it and run every hour. Definitely worth checking out if you have a free afternoon in San Cristobal.

We just spent an amazing 1.5 hours with Mayria, learning all about chocolate and its origins in Mayan culture. We took the English tour, then enjoyed the free tastings afterwards. Don't miss this in San Cristobal!

A fascinating and delightful insight into cacao and it's history in Meso America. Our tour guide Mayaria gave an exceptional experience, chocolate tasting and answered all our questions. Time well spent, and worth every penny.

One of the best experiences while my visit to San Cristobal de las Casas. The experience of create my own chocolate bar was incredible, for $300 pesos you have the opportunity to create your own bar and they explain you all the process and everything about cacao. Our experience was incredible, the guy who was our teacher he answer all our questions, he explained us everything from the cacao process to the chocolate creation, they’re super prepared about the topic and if you have the time is an amazing class!!! So worthy!!!! They’re cacao it’s amazing also, súper top quality!! Before they were closer to the center and soon they told us they’re going to change one block but not far at all and it’s a good activity and the museum it’s cool also.

It is open and located within the Jade museum! 1000% worth it!! Sign up for the workshop where you will learn all about the history of chocolate. You will roast, peel, and grind your own beans to make your very own chocolate bars!! It's been one of the highlights of our trip and my kids loved the hands on experience of making our own bars. I can't recommend this enough!! Thank you chef Joel for making this a fantastic memory for our family!

As of this posting, 22 March 2023, there is NO cacao and chocolate museum open to the public until further notice per the attendant. There is, however, a jade museum that replaced it.

We went there early in the afternoon and were told to come back at 6pm for a tour in english. So glad we did - we had an amazing time! Starting with the degustation of two hot cacao drinks, following with the visit to the museum. Our guide was great, full of knowledge and very sympathetic. We then finished with tasting many different chocolates produced in Mexico. Fully recommend!

Lovely little museum with a lot packed into a small space. I got a discount with my ticket from the Jade museum and probably wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't been directed there. It was a good size to wander and then sit sipping chocolate in afterwards. Would definitely recommend it for an afternoon stop.

Workshop is highly recommendable! Unfortunately we had to go there the day before to book it because the online communication didn't work.

Enjoyed this small museum, most info is in English too. Some antiques pieces and stories are explained. The best is the chocolate dégustation downstairs :)

Pretty small, but interesting. If you already know a bit about Cacao, I wouldn’t deem it worth the 30 peso entrance fee.

The museum is little, they don have any guide or explaining video, otherwise it’s a good introduction to the cacao world

The best hot chocolate/cocoa/cacao we ever tasted. Period. If you must have sugar, go for the 86% cacao, otherwise the 100%. And have it made with water, not milk. The price is only slightly higher than hot chocolate in any number of regular cafes in the area., but the taste is far superior. The museum itself is interesting and we found the staff very helpful in explaining how we need to process our own cacao.

An interesting museum for chocolate lovers. It's pretty small, but only costs 30 pesos so it's reasonable. The hot chocolate downstairs is delicious and in very good quality. The only problem is that only about half of the information is presented in both in English and Spanish, and the rest only in spanish.

Small but interesting museum. Not much to see but worth the detour for the chocolate shop which is obviously free to enter. It also has a nice little inside terrasse for a coffee or better a hot chocolate. Also, the signs and explanations are as far as I can remember only in spanish.

We arrived without booking in advance and we were given a tour followed by a tasting with no time spent waiting. The staff were super helpful and patient with the language barrier. The lady who conducted the chocolate tasting even helped us with communication on the phone to our hotel! Interesting and engaging experience - highly recommend!
