I grew up coming here and I must say it's one of the most underrated lakes in San Diego. From the trails to the camping or even dining at the restaurant. This is a place for some good fishing or a picnic with the family. Fishing has bass, carp, bluegill, crappie, and even sturgeon. Yes I said that correct. They have sturgeon. You can also go camping here from tents rvs or even cabins. There's so many trails to just get lost in nature. Now with that being said please note you are in the wilderness. There's lots of wildlife including mountain lions. When you go here please pay attention to your surroundings and clean of all of your trash. Enjoy the breathtaking views from the top of Stonewall Peak. If you need to know more feel free to reach out here and give me a follow or find me on Instagram @Manbehindalens

Stopped by on Saturday. There is a $10 parking fee which can be paid at the tackle shop. A lot of people were on boats, having picnics or fishing. We came for an easy hike and take in the scenery. I asked the shop about the hike trail and while the beginning was straight forward, would have been nice to know you can't go around the entire lake. Once you hit the dam there were trespassing signs blocking the area and it was either going back where we came or walk along the highway. We choose to go back since didn't want to risk being hit by a car. It wasn't hard walking back, but a bit annoying.

Visited Lake Cuyamaca Halloween weekend. I must say my gf and I had a great time and really enjoyed our stay. We camped at the Lone Pine Campground. The facilities were super nice/clean. The actual camping spots are on the smaller side and your neighbors are literally right next to you. But still very nice. The views are incredible looking south. The hiking was really enjoyable. It was our favorite part of the trip actually. The downfalls of camping at the lone pine is that youโ€™re really close to the hwy. lots of road noise late at night and early morning. But still not too big a deal. If youโ€™re into fishing I would not camp here. On the website they say this campground has the best fishing lolโ€ฆ which was incorrect for the 3 days I stayed. Not one person caught anything from the Lone Pine Shoreline. The lake is literally 500โ€™ from the campsites which is awesome. But the shoreline is super rocky. I tried every trick in my book to make a catch with NO luck. I wouldnโ€™t say Iโ€™m a expert fisherman but I am no rookie. If youโ€™re into fishing I would recommend the Chambers campground. The shoreline is less rocky and there was a couple people that had caught some trout and seemed to be where most people fished from on the shore and boats. The Chambers campground also has lots of picnic benches and large grass area. I would say this area is better if you have kids and pets. The restaurant and tackle shop is nice as well. The restaurant is nothing special but has great views of the lake and you can grab a cold beer and relax. The tackle shop has anything you would need for fishing if you left something at home. I definitely plan on going again. I hope this review is helpful.

Lovely outdoor location. Fish in the lake. Great hikes around the lake. Restaurant and store on the east side of the lake. Camping on north side with electric/water hook ups.

Very rude employees here will never come back. This guy is nothing but a bully wouldnโ€™t even give his name. Nice lake just wanted to get out for 2 min to take a look and ask a couple questions as Iโ€™m a tourist with my family.

I visited Lake Cuyamaca twice. Once in August 15, 2020, and today on November 14, 2022. Back in 2020, I went with some friends, hoping to photograph the Milky Way. Unfortunately we were unable to capture the Milky Way due to the clouds, but we still took some great pictures during our time over there. On today's visit with another friend on November 14, 2022, it was much colder, but the Fall Scenery was awesome! The Black Oak Trees in particular were the ones that created lots of beautiful yellow Fall Foliage in the forests over here! My friend and I not only enjoyed hiking around and taking pictures of the lake, but of the birds that visited the lake. We saw mostly Fishers here around the lake. It costs $10 to park and to visit, but it was definitely worth the price of admission! Now, this will be a must visit place every time I am in the Julian, CA area and have time to stop by. I highly recommend a visit here when visiting in the Julian, CA area.

What great get-away to Lake Cuyamaca on a beautiful Friday before the weekend crowds. When entering you must obtain a $10 parking pass to visit this area. This park is very clean, except for the geese poop & fish skeltons that were probably eaten by local hawks in area. Lots of pine trees & wild flowers along the trail. This is a circular trail you can hike that is well maintained. We chose to go only halfway as we were with our rescue Lab Kailani who absolutely loved the hike. It was beautiful to see the numerous vegetation along the hiking pathway which included a lot of bird activity. The lake was beautiful and there several people out fishing in boats as well as fishing from the dock. Such a great place to visit and calming to our souls!!

Whoever gave this place 5 stars must work there. When my family and I went there, the land near the lake was COVERED in animal feces. It must not have been cleaned in over a month or more. The first boat they gave us didnโ€™t start. The second stopped in the middle of the lake. When I was going to park it, the motor kicked up. Iโ€™d give this place 0 stars if possible. The only good thing about the lake was the clerk who took my info down. She was nice. Everything else about the lake is complete garbage. I do not recommend this place.

Don't bother, especially if you have a dog with you. Dogs can't even touch the water which I did not see anywhere in the online info. They can be near it but can't touch it. If you were hoping to get a hike in...not without an application already submitted and "all proper paperwork" with you or you'll get a ticket. If I would have known those 2 things I definitely wouldn't have driven 2 hours to do a u turn in a parking lot.

Very nice lake with beautiful scenery. Went for a dip in the water on my state of the art water craft, the personal inner-tube. While I was enjoying a leisurely float, my balls also enjoyed a dip into the water and promptly shrank up to microsize. The staff member came around, astonished that anyone would dare dunk their member and sidekicks into his lake and ordered me out immediately. He informed me that since the lake was used as a reservoir, human contact with the water (swimming) was not allowed. He then informed me that I likely reached such a foolish decision due to the two beers and cigar he saw me enjoying in the parking lot earlier. I was shocked to find out that anyone would drink water from this reservoir as the water could best be described as a dirty baby diaper brown color. The scent wafting across the rolling waves reminded me of my fish tank that went months without cleaning. Nonetheless, I exited. If your water is sourced from this aqueous establishment, and you taste a tinge of salty bitterness in the coming weeks, I apologize, for I knew not the consequences of my (and my boys') actions.

An excellent getaway from San Diego. Located about 2.5hrs from downtown and about 15min from Julian. Lakeside camping available by reservation. Felt great to be somewhere with trees and a mountain breeze. Lake is stocked regularly with trout and bass. All trout and largemouth bass must be kept if caught. In addition to a state fishing license a lake cuyamaca fishing permit must also be purchased, available at the lake restaurant and tackle shop. Can't wait to go back!

went here because everyone said there was great fihsing and lots of fish. upon arriving , there lots of bats at night and i camped there for friday and saturday night, there was no fish, and asked about 80 percent of people and everyone said the same. ended catching one small croppie that it for two days, had to pay extra fihsing license just for the lake and also need to have regular fishing license, I was told that THEY AHVENT RESTOCKED THE LAKE SINCE COVID-19 happened so there was no action for fishing at all. i was super excited but what a big dissapointment HOWEVER, if you don't care about the fish, the view is amazing here. the camp sites are a bit close together and you do have to PARK YOUR CAR AWAY FROM CAMP SITE. as well

Amazing staff and most gorgeous views and lake. Only thing I didn't appreciate is they told us due to covid it would be every other camp site taken. But on Saturday when we woke up we had new neighbors right next to us where it was just to close for comfort during this time. I was told one thing on the phone and what happened was another. But other than that the bathrooms where clean and they do have showers but its ice cold no warm water so be prepared for that and you have to pay to take a shower which is another thing they didn't tell me over the phone when making reservations.

Stayed in lake front cabin. Cabin was clean and very nicely kept. Very spacious for 6 people. Family loved it. Trail along the lake is nice but it becomes basically non existent when you pass the chambers camp grounds heading towards the restaurant and bait and tackle store. Personnel at the bait and tackle store were very nice and helpful even though they were very busy.

Been here a few times, stayed in the condo in Chambers park once. The fishing fees should be waived if your staying on the lake, that would be nice. The lady at front desk has an attitude she snaps, we snapped back at her. Seems it's just her personality though no hurt feelings just catches you off guard! Condo was real nice with wood fireplace, perfect location on lake, water was out for 8 hours sucked but it happens. Beds upstairs in loft not comfortable, bunk beds were plush! Could not figure out couch bed but didn't need it, couch was not comfortable and barely fit 4. Could use more blankets but heater worked awesome. They had plenty of bathing towels. Fridge is a little bigger than a mini we could have brought more food. Fishing hit or miss, we have caught before but this trip we didn't, weather was windy/ rainy. They have frogs!!! And they built a little playground. The stars at night were gorgeous and Julian was 15 min away. We had a great time for the 3day stay. Saw deer, turkeys, eagles, hawks, Frogs, Fish, pretty birds. Hiking is good in and around. Bring your DVDs or watch some channels. Recommend staying on the lake just be prepared. The prices are high which is expected out there for food/needs.
