Small area packed with many interesting artifacts. The owner is very knowledgeable as most books and artifacts are from his travels throughout Africa and his time as a college professor. Many ethic items for sale,. Can't wait to visit again.

Professor Charles Ambers is an amazing, knowledgeable man of History. He has an extensive collection of African artifacts and furnishings that transport visitors through History. We were welcomed by him with humor and a passionate storytelling tale of history reminiscent of old African Storytellers. This tiny museum was packed with everything imaginable from the countries of the Motherland through the countries of Latin America. The influences of African men and women were threaded throughout the display cases and rooms of the museum. Professor Ambers encourages everyone to participate and engage while moving throughout the exhibitions. At 79years of age he is definitely a one of a kind Museum curator and academic historian. Thank you for sharing Professor Ambers and continuing to keeping History truthful and alive!!

This place provided a phenomenal educational experience for our group of 25 young adults from L.A. Kudos to the founder and owner who is a professor and historian, with deep knowledge of everything in the museum. Will definitely return and spend more time there.

There's a lot of information to be seen but you can tell when a tour guide doesn't know what they're giving you a your on. The door fee is super inexpensive and you get a study guide to take notes on. Not a good place to visit for folks with a physical disability.

Must See In Old Town Wonderful find in Old Town to get a unique perspective of African history and the history of Black people in the new world. Also, a lot of history about local Black culture. We have visited many museums and this one is well worth your time. DW/SW

I was so happy to find this hidden treasure in Old Town. I took my grandkids and we all had a ball, as well as an education, the Professor is full of information and wonderful stories of our ancestors we also purchased some African jewelry and it is beautiful. The place is full of books and artifacts. I can't wait to go back.

Very informative and eye opening. There's a lot history to learn in this museum and it's one of the most remarkable stops while in San Diego. I was just touring Old Town area and a gentleman told me about it. I was happy to see that it's one of the stops on the Hop On Hop Off Tours. Highly recommended

You will be walking in to a classroom with the Professor giving details about everything he has from the past and current. Walking in awe and walking out with knowledge and proud of you heritage!!!!! Please donate when visiting. Young generation needs to come and visit. Far better than internet and books.

Always informative and a true shame that San Diego has not helped to invest into creating more of a space for all of the treasures it holds.

I stumbled upon this gem of a place while looking for parking in Old Town San Diego, and had to go in. I was fortunate enough to have a private tour with the professor (the curator) himself. This museum boasts a plethora of collectible items, from around the world, books and historical moments in black history, as well as other minority movements integral in getting the resting of society's awareness and understanding that inequality will not stand. Great place to get woke, and see the work that generations before us had to do, and we that we must continue to do, to reach true equality. Fun fact: if you have any original pins from Olympic Games around the world, the professor will trade happily swap stories and trade with you.

I thought it was amazing to show how many black people have not been written in history books and not gotten recognition for their achievements. I only give them "three" stars because the place was so small and would have been easier to see every thing in a larger space with lots of captions. They could use some funding for a larger place...

Giving this rating because the place was not open. Although the sign said open at 12 and the website stated it was open but it was not. Tried calling but only got voice-mail. Really wanted to visit and will try again one day. If and when I do I hope to change the rating.

Professor Chuck Ambers is a wealth of information. He is charming and funny and engaging as a tour guide. I learned more during my visit than he could ever begin to forget. I work for a top university and have every intention to invite him to give a talk next semester - our students, staff, faculty and community members at large will be all the better for having attended. This museum has so many amazing things but the best part is you walk away wanting to learn more.

Wow! Dr. Ambers and Mr. Haynes-Pitts were gracious to give us a personal, in-depth tour of African Latin history that has shaped and contributed to our world. This museum and shop is a treasure chest. Extraordinary! They do educational and cultural programming and foreign cultural tours. Keep history alive, in our hearts, our minds, in our hands, in our world.

My fiancee and I stumbled upon this gem by chance. An excellent learning experience and some amazing pieces of history. The wonderfully enthusiastic curator Professor Chuck Ambers is a delight to listen to and you will learn a hell of a lot in a short time period. Highly recommended.

This place needs a lot of help. They have great stuff, but you wouldn't know it because you cant see it for all the other stuff. Needs better narration and explantions that tie in with the Old Town San Diego experience. Clean it up and organize it and you will have another jewel of San Diego that no one should miss. If you have the time and the energy volunteer to help out, do it!

Our last day in San Diego we spent the day on a personal tour of this wonderful gem. A small house filled with the most exciting, educational, and uplifting exhibits of World Black History. This small institute is a living treasure that has thousands of stories and history lessons for the World to learn.

A diamond in the rough! So many books, newspaper clippings, paintings, artifacts and more. The value of the history contained in this dusty little building deserves to be in a bigger place worthy of display. Professor Chuck provides am educational experience unlike none other.
