Performing aboard the Disney Wonder ATM so this was my first meal on land in 2 months and it was INCREDIBLE! I scoped this spot out in search of brunch within walking distance from the port. It is a good 15-20 walk but it is totally worth it and you can walk along the pier/enjoy the views. I enjoyed the crispy pesto eggs served with arugula, fresh prosciutto & bread. I also added a side of fries! It was so so good. I had trouble picking something because everything looked THAT good. The ambience was stellar and they have a lovely patio.

New review - We love this restaurant. It is not at the very center of Little Italy so it’s not that crowded and loud, we like it. The foods here are pretty nice. We came here for brunch, I enjoyed my Avocado Toast with prosciutto on it, so yummy. The drinks are good and service is very nice as well. Previous review- This is definitely a super cute place in Little Italy San Diego. My husband and I try to find a place has both coffee and cocktails, and plus… coffee cocktails. We found this French restaurant, it’s a beautiful open space, listed a big wine menu. I had an Almond Milk latte, and surprisingly they made it as good as the real milk, the almond milk foam is steamed so well. My husband said his espresso martini is one of the best he had so far, so he ordered a second one. We will go back to try their food someday soon, it seems a very popular place. And the service is patient and nice.

Ok I really tried to like this place as it does have a cute vibe. However, I came on two occasions (once for dinner another for brunch) and basically received the same type of experience. Food: Ordered a brioche French toast, potatoes au gratin and a latte and all were delicious. My friend however ordered a steak frites and a banana nut bread that took 30 minutes to come out and it wasnt even fresh- I believe we were forgotten about. It was advertised on the online menu as freshly baked, warm with bananas decadently draping over the bread. So yeah, we waited 30 minutes for someone basically to cut a piece of bread that was dry. Service: This is where unfortunately I have to say that on both visits, the service was non-existent. We had to flag down the wait staff quite a few times and on both occasions, it wasn't busy. I actually had a reservation the 1st visit and had to walk in to find someone to be seated. I will say that the manager was working for the dinner visit and was pleasant and tried to "right" what went wrong that night. And I simply just stated that I'd come back for brunch. And for brunch I did, and unfortunately nothing changed. Overall, if you have the time to wait to receive your food, drinks etc, then I'd recommend coming here as the food is quite good (minus the banana nut bread)- but honestly this location needs to improve on the customer experience as service is not desirable.

Been wanting to come here for a while and why did it take us so long?! It's such a great spot, the food was absolutely amazing! We had steak and frits, tuna tartare, mussels and some desert. Come here for brunch , dinner or just happy hour, I think you'd enjoy your time. We will definitely be coming back! Ps there's a nice changing table in the restroom, which was very helpful.

Great little spot on Kettner Blvd. in northern Little Italy. Wasn’t really busy (Thursday around 10:00am) so we just walked in sat ourselves and enjoyed our surroundings. Not a big menu, but a very good menu. The breakfast sandwich and the soft scramble with salmon were super tasty. The ambiance and atmosphere was great and their coffee (i drink it black) was one of the best cups I’ve had in downtown San Diego. Off the beaten path a tad but worth a try and visit!

The location was great and the ambience was very relaxing. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was a bit over powering with a lot of bacon bits and olive oil. We had the chicken and some vegetables. They tasted okay, but nothing worth coming back for. We ate a few times at the Zinque in Newport Beach and the food there was a bit better than here.

Casual French eats in an open, airy environment. Might be a little too casual. Whenever I have to scan a QR code to see a menu, I always hear this voice in my head saying: "Keep yer pants on, Stella, this ain't no high class joint." The server asked if I was ready to order before the menu loaded on my phone and seemed annoyed that I needed time to see the menu. The steak frites were decent. The fries were super thin, crisp and pleasantly salty. The steak was cooked to the right temperature, was slightly chewy, and stopped just short of being too salty. The herbs in the chimichurri were somewhat overwhelmed by the olive oil but it was passable. The clafoutis cherry tart was disappointing. It tasted processed and not fresh, and the ice cream was like something from a supermarket. Wine list is not bad for a place like this. Service was poor. Half way through my meal, my plate still full of food and my fork about to land a morsel of steak in my mouth, the server asked if I was "still working on it". All I could think was, "As opposed to what?" At 7 pm on a Friday, less than 1/3 of the tables were occupied; you'd think she'd want me to linger to help make the place appear more in demand. I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, with its substandard service and loud club music, this place misses the mark for being a favorite neighborhood eatery and is too downscale to be a destination spot.

Sadly a very underwhelming experience. It started off with a strongly under poured beer. I’ve added a picture on how it came. I joked with the waitress saying where is the rest of my beer and who took a sip. She just smiled and walked away. For my entree I ordered the Croque Monsuier. It just wasn’t very good. Definitely the worst I have ever had. Light on the bechamel and the bread was terrible. One side had the soft texture with the cheese you would expect while the bottom was a hard dry piece of toast. My wife tried the grilled Salmon. She set it was a little over cooked but not bad but didn’t really have anything remarkable to say one way or another. I really wanted to like this place and I have seen some great reviews. Maybe it was just a one off bad experience but there are too many great places in Little Italy to eat to try here a second time.

Zinque was the only place we could get into on short notice, but after walking by it many times I was excited to try it. Ordered curry soup, mussels and burger- all three were inedible, so we ate the french fries and left hungry. The soup tasted like lime juice, mussels came out lukewarm, and burger was overcooked and flavorless. It looks like another review says a new manager arrived to help fix this but I don’t think we’d give it a second chance. The waitress was nice but with only a few other tables that night hardly checked on us.

Beautiful & delicious food. The servers are fantastic and the vibe is very chill. It also not ridiculously expensive... unlike many brunch places in San Diego. I highly recommend them. It's a cute French spot in Little Italy.

I was very excited to try this place but I was royally disappointed. The food lacked flavor and the service was subpar. The dish I ordered, Le Bowl, resembled an overpriced version of something I would make in college when I was running low on ingredients. Meanwhile, the server brought us our waters after we had already been seated for 10 minutes despite the restaurant not being busy. Then he left while we were still in the middle of our meal. I had to go hunt someone down to get the bill since the staff had apparently forgotten about us even though we were the only customers in the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday afternoon at that point. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. With this place being located in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood, there are a handful of amazing restaurants just steps away. So there’s no need to settle for the poor service and bland food here.

The vegetarian options are great! I highly recommend their cauliflower dish. If you like to eat beef, expect low quality of beef with greasy tendons and though edges. My friend did not return the dish because we all know what that leads to.

friendly, attentive staff and good food. the leek quiche came with an absurd amount of fries, but the quiche itself was delicious. my boyfriend ordered a half rotisserie chicken with scalloped potatoes, and his potatoes hit the spot. both of our lattes were delicious and the barista tried both drinks before serving them, which shows that they are committed to quality. we will definitely be back.

Super amazingly friendly staff. Host, server, and busboy all smiles, conversational, and lots of well wishing on the way out. Atmosphere is really great, good lighting, ambiance, and music. Quiche was very good, too!

Really cute place. Service was great, food was delicious, and the prices are totally reasonable, especially considering the high quality of our meals. They were also excellent with food allergies. Would definitely come back.

Great spot at the corner of Kettner Boulevard, small plates of food were delightful and paired with some great wines were saw on the wine list. The valet service outside shuts at 9.30pm, despite being a Friday or we'd have hung out longer in the company of good friends and good times!

This place does what they know well. The best item on the menu is their Tuna Tartare Tartine. Their second best is the Potato Au Gratin. Their wine selection is good and reasonable. The building is spacious and have plenty of seating. Wait times are very reasonable here.

Reserved table for 10:30, we arrived at 10 and we were seated right away. Shawn and Gemy (I hope I spelled your names right!!) were awesome! They recommended dishes that were both delicious! Lavender Latte was unique and decadent. And a Flourless Chocolate Cake for breakfast? Of course! We will be back! Thanks Shawn and Gemy for brightening our day!!

Zinqué is my favorite spot to go in Little Italy to enjoy a chill meal for brunch or dinner at a bar with a great food selection and cool people (like, the staff there is great and the other customers are a solid crowd on a regular basis, too). I recently moved away from the area, but I plan to return here every few weeks or so just to see how the place is doing. There's a wall of great wine selections, the bartenders know their stuff (shout out to Von and Shawn -- apologies if I'm ruining the spelling, fellas), and the food is *chef's kiss*. Plus the music is ALWAYS on point. I o'no -- they just have my Spotify tastes down, I guess. I used to always get their French Toast and some other random breakfast item (picture attached - my terrible photo skills don't do it justice), but the Chai Tea and Bloody Marys are good stuff, too. And I've also had a lot of other things in their brunch menu, so I can pretty much vouch for all of it -- it's solid all around and a little something there for every taste. And when it comes to dinner time, I always order the Steak-Frites (prepared medium temp) with chimichurri and a nice glass of some kind of red wine. This spot is worth the visit(s), and I like taking friends from out of town by whenever I have company. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable for the portions. You can go there on a budget if you need to, or you can paint the town for a night if you feel like splurging. Great range and variety. You can tell when employees care and like working at food establishments, and Zinqué seems to have mastered this with their team. Don't take my word, go and experience it for yourself -- and I'd recommend sitting at the bar.

Alexis, Faith and Darla are amazing!!! We have been here a couple times. The food is wonderful, the area is great. It is a French inspired restaurant which is cool in Little Italy. The staff is great. The food and drinks are spot on. Enjoyed the patio area.

I understand it's understaffed and I don't fault the service. I have issues with the kitchen. The soft scramble was almost an omelette. It tasted ok but hardly worth the price. The cappuccino with an extra shot came with no froth, tepid milk and in a huge cup. It was weaker than a standard cap at Starbucks.

  • 3/5 Dawn B. 3 years ago on Google
I really liked it. Not my favorite place but who really shined for me was our waiter. He was a pleasure! I loved happy hour. I started with 5 apps and went with another few. The olives and almonds are very yummy but typical and nothing to write home about. Then we had the salami toast, the quiche (my fav),frites. Had the Ratatouille, the tuna tartar (I found a bone in my tartar) and we had like 6 drinks. The drink that was my favorite was this Bright yellow drink with a flower (La Franchise) and it was amazing......I had it twice! The service and staff is really attentive. I'm just not a huge fan of the food. Everything was just kind ok. But the drinks and service were fantastic!

Ugh... a. ordered the grass-fed burgers and omg salty as in like cap off salt shaker fell off while seasoning. Both of us were hungry I ate most but girlfriend left the bulk. b. waitress taking orders on ipad like devices and hand-typing notes cumbersomely... bet my gf order going to be wrong and yup, mis-took side dressing for side of fries c. they don’t sanitize their tables, damp cloth ran across the surface and all food debris (tomato pieces, piece of what looked like shrimp, french fry straight onto the floor. even saw server pick up piece of lettuce and then just drop it on the floor d. checks are all hands-free okay cool but wait no... have to hold that order taking tablet to review bill... and you can’t see itemized just total after tax and yeah pretty sure they’re not sanitizing that tablet after 30 people and the server have touched it... ewww e. saving grace, gent who brought out food very nice, quick to remove not ordered side, replace with side dressing, shoe-string fries done well and fresh greens apparent Unfortunately we will not return and we’re locals so were hoping this place would be solid based on reviews but the over-salting (rookie mistake) and lack of cleanliness negates a do over.

Review update: I’m very happily surprised by the response of the new manager of Zinque, and look forward to visiting again soon! Good luck to the entire team! * * * * * Zinque San Diego has regrettably shown a steady decline in the quality of their food over the last two years. I’ve been a regular supporter of the restaurant, having been a frequent visitor before COVID, a takeout customer during the shutdowns, and a game but increasingly unwilling visitor since the shutdowns ended. What was once an exciting and fun menu of delicious treats has become a series of grim chores to wade through. We made the mistake of bringing some out of town visitors there last week, and what a disappointment. I’m still embarrassed. Overcooked salmon, a “ratatouille” that was literally a bowl of soggy charred eggplant, and burned cauliflower. I realize that it’s hard to attract and retain good line cooks in an era of governmental handouts, but serving bad food isn’t an option. After the last disaster I give up. Good luck to Zinque, but I can’t recommend going there.

I dont really have anything negative to say about this place, except that the time were there the food wasn't impressive. It wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't blow our minds. Maybe our expectations were set too high by the reviews and by the happy half hour podcast which is how I heard of this place. The service was great, very quick and friendly, the prices are reasonable, but the food is missing a little something. I would definitely go back and try it again. Try it for yourself maybe your experience is better than mine.
