I’ve been here probably ten times and every time it’s something new and awful. Entitled members are out of control and staff just lets it happen, between people constantly flexing and filming themselves in common areas or texting on equipment, spending over an hour on squat racks (been waiting nearly a year for two more squat racks), overcrowded and downright filthy cleanliness standards. The sinks in the women’s bathroom have an unbelievably bad smell, there’s loose hair and dust EVERYWHERE, don’t even go in the showers just don’t do it. Despite being a huge gym with seemingly tons of amenities and equipment, the gross factor and horrible gym culture here is too bad to enjoy it at all. The staff doesn’t seem to care about any issue at all, I’ve had to ask management before why there’s such an issue getting on the squat racks, and they said unless someone babysits back there there’s just nothing that can be done. It’s been at least a year and it’s been like this every time I’ve come in. The rude members are out of control, doing supersets taking up multiple machines at once and won’t let you work in, broken machines and maybe one of each kind so lots of waiting and arguing amongst members which is a terrible disruption to a workout and bad vibes. Today there were two members who roped off half the turf area for well over an hour (also hoarding kettlebells, airdyne machine, treadmill, rower, and more) brought this concern to management because they were extremely rude to me when I tried to nicely ask how long they would be, yelled at me they were training for some timed race (aren’t we all training for something? Why is that more important than anyone else?) and we all pay the exact same gym fee, and the staff member said it was unacceptable yet didn’t enforce anything, made me feel so unwelcome and unheard. If I could give negative stars I would. Never coming back to this location, especially don’t come here if you’re trying to get a workout in before work.

The gym is big but there are tons of kids and tik tok type people here that make it terrible. No respect for each other. The bathrooms are gross and the staff doesn’t really actively clean up or put equipment back. Would not recommend if you want to be in and out. You might wait in line of 5+ people to use squat rack or bench

UPDATE 9/2023 SAUNA AVE POOL REVIEW My first and last time . The Sauna, Steam Room & Pool area is dirty and non-sanitized. The area is unkept and I am certain there are health code violations occurring in this area. Despite that, you can smell everyone's pores, breath and what they ate... There is an underlying smell that is attached to the sauna/steam room. Heat may kill odor, but you also need to apply some type of environmentally safe chemical to disinfect. The lounge chairs in the pool are not only old, they are filthy. And this is an indoor pool! And I won't even waste my words getting started on the locker rooms-disgusting 😫 9/2022 Open 24 hours again! Has finally returned. Thank the maker. These extended hours allow you to get in and get out within an hour like a normal workout should take. I arrived at 9 pm and waited 3 minutes for a squat rack instead of 35 minutes. No joke. And the crowd at this time is not trying to impress anyone. Obviously, if you are here later it's focus time. All modern equipment, basketball courts, swimming and classes. The criticism I have is clean under the machines. The dust bunnies build up is disgusting. And yes, I'll continue to come.

Love the turf area and heavy bag here. Solid place to get a workout in. Place is huge and is usually packed. Huge parking lot but it was still difficult to find parking during the evening peak. Still a solid place to workout

They've added more platforms, which is nice. The cons are that they need to upkeep with the rest of the equipment, broken machines or just outdated ( I see some equipment hardly used that just takes up space) The cleanliness is the worst, yeah the members leave a mess like weights and paper towels, but actually cleaning the gym, pfft it's disgusting. The gym floor needs some scrubbing, the dust all over the gym, no one cleans in between machines, i.e.. hair, dust, and paper towels stuck in platforms. The worst part has to be the restrooms, they smell like fish and urine as soon as you walk in, it just might be cause they have the same ceiling tiles since the gym was built and they're just covered in fecal matter. DUST EVERYWHERE! So it seems that they've done nothing to clean this place at all or management doesn't care. Employees spend all their time just at the front desk on their phones. Cleaning crew are rarely seen.

Whats so sad about this location is that even with ALLLLL the similar reviews about the rude staff and filthy facility, nothing changes. As i sat to wait to speak to the club manager, i could hear the female at the check in desk on the phone speaking very rudely and condescendingly to a gym member who by the conversation was inquiring about her account. I sat and listened in digust. When i finally spoke to the club manager to inform him that he may want to take a walk thru his facility and witness the dirt and garbage all over. He was sarcastic, dismissive and flippant. (Perhaps why his staff feel so encouraged to be rude to the members). He had nothing to suggest but offered excuses. Blaming “lack of proper cleaning crew but some new girl was starting today as we spoke”. SMH. It looks like we are working out in the middle of the streets of NYC! Ill be switching to LA FITNESS as my significant other has been urging me to do. Here are some pics to substantiate that I am not exaggerating. The level of dirt and dust build up on top of the machines that are REGULARLY used is unbelievable…. Zoom in. That is MONTHS of dirt and debris. Not days or weeks…. ATROCIOUS! I would be so embarrassed to claim I manage this facility. It would not be a flex.

Horrible employees, horrible horrible horrible. They check out the females and then talk disrespectfully to people. They just stand around and so literally nothing while acting like they are important. They don't update the 24 app on time. No cleanliness standards no repairs on equipment. They keep getting rid of the sanitary stations, when a machine breaks they just take it out and never replace it. What a pathetic excuse for a gym, spend your money someplace else.

I’ve been going here around 8 months now. I’m a consistent morning time person. This gym does get crowded until about 8:30am so if you don’t like crowds don’t come here. It’s also the biggest and has the best lay out of any other 24s I know. People are respectful for the most part but per usual you will get your “I’m better than you” type people. When it is crowded you can usually ask to work in with someone and they’re fine with it. People are friendly here but again if you aren’t wanting to have a chat people respect that. Cleaning could be 10000x better. Bathrooms are pretty foul usually and I’ve just avoided using them altogether at this point. Some days weights are racked and others it’s a mess it really depends who worked the shift. Sometimes they take equipment from the gym and almost hide it away so you have to ask for it. One girl Audrey is amazing though I always see her cleaning and trying to make the space safe and sanitary for everyone. My biggest reason for giving 2 stars is the unprofessional staff specifically the men. It’s like their dating grounds but they aren’t shameful at all. One front desk staff blatantly ignores me when I come in or leave and knows some of my friends and will call them by name to say goodbye but singles me out because I made it clear I wasn’t interested. There are a couple others that also make it uncomfortable for the women who do gym there and the saddest part is these are staff members making paying members uncomfortable. At this point I’ll start looking for a new gym because being ignored or treated rudely because I don’t give you my attention is extremely unprofessional. Also could we not have it 60 degrees the gym is meant for people to sweat in it.. not freeze.

It takes alot for me to post a bad review. I work with the public also and normally post positive. However, the service or lack their of was astonishing. I was rudely greeted. I was asked immediately and rudely, was I just wanting to use my pass or " If I actually wanted a membership". I was dismissively told my 3 day pass would be valid for 1 day only. No attempt was made to sell me a membership, discuss rates or treat me as if I was valued. It is astonishing that this individual is in customer service. No Thank You!

David needs to learn customer service. I was incorrectly charged an additional $300!! on top of my monthly membership. When I stop by here because it was on my way home, he refused to help me before even looking at my account and told me I need to go to another location or text the trainer to have them remove the charge (and I don't have anyone's personal number so not sure how or why I should have to text them). He then said that I was only at his location to bypass going through my trainer which was definitely not the case. Again, it was just on my way home. I don't like being told that I am being 'sneaky' and that I should just go through "my trainer" like I am "supposed to". Because of him, me and my girlfriend are cancelling our memberships. Just because of David's attitude. Other than that, the facilities here are nice. But I am not rewarding poor customer service with my business.

This Gym is abysmal, Overcrowded 24/7. Lines for squat rack, bench, even the leg raise machine will have lines. You will always be waiting for something. Dirty, so if you wanted to shower before work you wont get that. And the people this gym attracts are the worst. Someone stole just one of my air-pods, not even the entire thing. I would only recommend this gym if it was your last resort because you literally couldn't afford anything else.

Great gym, my only problem there is a worker named Gene or something like that. She is extremely rude and frankly is a Karen. I am surprised why she is still working there and the gym should fire her asap.

If they would actually clean, this would really be the perfect gym. Tried out the gym on multiple occasions and they always have the same smelly and disgusting black mold in the womens’ locker room. They chalked it up to new management, but when I came back a month later, they had the same problems. One of their employees told me their cleaning crew just works out instead of cleaning the gym and that someone even called the health dept on them because of the mold situation. I waited a while and called back again to check the status. I talked to the manager and he said they fixed the problem, so I came back. I signed up for a membership and came in to find the same disgusting black mold as before. The manager claimed the place is cleaned nightly, but the attached pictures of black mold in the sinks show otherwise. They were both taken in the same week, and one early in the morning (showing that nightly cleaning does not happen—at least not in the locker room.) A quick scrub with some comet or barkeepers friend would quickly solve the issue, but if they can’t be bothered to clean the mold that is visible, I am concerned about the grossness we can’t immediately see. I felt betrayed and lied to…and really wanted to like this place, but every time I come here I end up with respiratory problems. It doesn’t make sense to go to the gym to improve your health while simultaneously risking your health by exposure to black mold. I would love to come back if they would just clean up the gym!!!

The spa area is filthy and allows people fully dressed to walk in off the fitness floor, the parking lot, and wherever else they may come from. Frankly, I was shocked and then disgusted by the lack of oversight and monitoring. Personal hygiene considerations are sorely lacking these areas. The stench of dirty clothes and sweaty bodies coming into the saunas interferes with those who want to enjoy the cleansing purpose. I’m sorry for these observations, management would do well by members to ensure a clean, gratifying, and healthy environment. Thank you.

So. It is 2:14 AM. I haven't been to this particular in about 5 or so years. I was greeted by the disappointment of cleanliness and sanitary standards. First off. There's only person on right now. I understand its 24 hours but no one should fly solo for a gym this big, for this location. There should at least be two folks. I can't imagine the worker really ever taking a lunch since he would have to be uninterrupted for 30 minutes. The mats and foam rollers are filthy. All up along the wall There is nothing but trash and debris. I blew just a little and so much dust and dirt came up. Third, the bathrooms are downright disgusting. I'd imagine it's not the workers job to clean these bathrooms and I would assume that there is a cleaning crew. Toilet seat covers and toilet paper are all scattered in the stalls in the bathroom. By the way, there are only three stalls. Come on. This gym is big and only three? The seat was covered in sweat and feces. Not even the bathrooms at Imperial look like this. And this is supposed to be in the 'richer' neighborhood. The floors are incredibly filthy. They look as if they have neeevveerrrr been washed. Never. They're incredibly sticky. Ew. Also the walls have literally dust on them. Like, come on. This gym must pulling money in and they clean nothing? Clean your walls. The only redeeming quality of this gym is the equipment. That's literally it. There's nothing else that could make me give it more than two stars. Just go to the Imperial location. Just more sanitary and cleaner. I definitely see the cleaning crew putting in work and there's a pool and a sauna.

Tried using a 3 day free pass to get to know the gym, I took my San Diego ID, but I live in spring valley which is in San Diego area, but the guy at the front desk named Travis said it wasnt in the mile range and sent me away. So that’s the reason I’m never signing up to 24h fitness.

I regularly go to 24 hour fitness at the Westfield North County and compared to that facility, this place is ai mess. The men's locker room is always disgusting with water all over the floor and trash everywhere. The free weights are never put back where they belong and it is always packed.

There is a sign outside of the sauna and spa stating that cleaning goes Wednesday 9am to 10am. At 4am, the doors were left open, I assume it was for cleaning? I went back an hour later, there was still no one there cleaning. So I went in as well as some other guy, a guy with long hairs came by and yelled cleaning. I told him I didn’t know, he signs says otherwise. I didn’t mean to upset him; he said “talk to management, I’ve already told them to change it” Please update your cleaning schedule for the pool area, spa, sauna and showers; that way we don’t have to bother the cleaning people.

Parking sucks when it’s busy. Sauna is barely warm. It’s only warm enough to encourage bacteria growth and odor. 👎 edit: The temperature of the sauna has been made higher. Thank goodness.

This gym is outdoors only right now during the lockdown. It’s absolutely massive and they have everything you need in the parking lot. 4 squat racks, ~20 benches, more than enough equipment. It’s usually not too busy either, and there’s plenty of spots for each time slot I usually just sign up right before I go. The views at sunset are great too.

I like the services the club offers. Its huge and has a wide area. Lots of people & equipment. The problem is one of the front staff. One lady here definately has an attitude problem & does not represent a good image for the company. Ive been a member for a year & resigned up. Once we checked in, she acted as if we didnt have a membership & got an attitude with my friend & I. Avoid Audrey if you can, she is not a people person. Ive been local to san diego for 37 years, never have issues like this since we locals dont act like that here. I dont know whats her problem. Definately an issue this location needs to deal with because she's making you lose business & giving a bad image.

Hands down the worst 24 hour fitness in the San Diego area. Full of people that are full of themselves and not willing to share equipment. Came here during a Monday afternoon and there were so many insta-betches “supersetting” ie hogging equipment that I walked around in circles for 15 min just looking for something, anything to actually work out on. The people have no idea what gym etiquette is, the staff don’t care, and you’ll be waiting 45 min for a squat rack unless you’re here literally in the middle of the night. Don’t come here.

This has been my favorite 24 Hour location, but the closure of the jacuzzi "until further notice" (!) is disappointing and unacceptable. The closure of the jacuzzi happens too often. The jacuzzi is not just a fun amenity after a workout. A lot of us former athletes and older members depend on the jacuzzi for pain relief from injury and arthritis. If the treadmills were all closed until further notice, there would be a riot. How about putting in the extra effort to keep this important gym machine open so we can use the membership amenities we signed up for? A lot of us are there for the pool area, not to lift weights.

I joined a few months ago. I don't mind the amount of people. What I find the MOST annoying is the extremely high decibel level of music coming from the group exercise room, which they now have with open doors. I use noise cancelling headphones and I still find it annoying. I've asked others and many agree. Would LOVE to have noise decibel reader used because it's extremely high. Members may be getting fit but the are harming their hearing!!! PLEASE check this. I don't care what age you are, this is harmful.

San Diego area is well underserved by 24 Hr Fitness. The only gym with full amenities for a population of above 5million. Nothing close by Downtown and do not even think about the south. Cleaning is an issue on this place, seriously, I never seen this place clean. Showers, steam and sauna rooms all have mold. Place is overcrouded all the time, you have to make a line for equipment. Half of the trendmill, stairclimber machines do not work. How am I supposed to get my dream fit body? 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

The staff here at the Balboa 24 go above and beyond to make sure the facilities are clean, equipment is functional, and help with any concerns...that says a lot and highly recommend checking this gym out🤙🏼

Clean, orderly, professional, full service gym. All levels of fitness journeys are carefully attended to. They accept Silver Sneakers now!! Their app is incredibly helpful if you are doing self-directed fitness or if you want to supplement your training program. I thought I'd feel self-conscious or inadequate when I started, but everyone, gym users and staff alike, have been nothing but friendly and helpful.

The star is for the effort to keep things working. Told the manager twice in the past 6 months that 18 out of their 20 ellipticals aren’t working properly. Same thing for the rowing machines. Cant adjust resistance and foot straps slip constantly for example. Gym is always packed so it needs maintenance.

This has been the worst service I’ve ever had at a gym. I came to try this gym out and sign up. As soon as i asked for help to get sign up I was bounced around between employees. Once I got to one of them he provided me with instructions of how to sign up, but as soon as he had a chance he left and never came back. We then proceeded to ask the next employee to informed him we were ready to sign up to which he replied we had to wait for another employee to which he was dealing with a very very angry lady. Since he was overwhelmed with the situation he said go ahead and go in and we’ll deal with the sign up later. Once we were done with our quick work out and I say quick because it was so packed in there that there’s no chance to have a proper workout . After that, we tried to sign up again with the first employee named Ronnie. He was busy signing someone up with the same program we have. Once it was our turn and finished successfully with the other person he said he had trouble with the system even though he just signed someone up in front of us. This to me sounds like they don’t want our business there. if you planning on checking this place out start getting ready to have an unpleasant welcoming.

The staff was nice and helpful for accommodating me with a free three day pass. However, the facility itself was overcrowded, dirty, and smelly. Also, I was disappointed to see that the sauna area was coed, rather than two separate ones, one in the women’s locker room, and one in the men’s locker room.

For the price you pay, it is a decent gym. Plenty of machines, squat racks, and benches. Try to avoid peak hours if possible (it is a nightmare). It is expected that you will have to wait for a machine if you come during busy hours, sometimes up to 10 minutes for a popular machine. I wished there were more 5lb and 10lb plates around the bench area. Those seem to always be taken and used up. At times, there will be no paper towels anywhere.

I only wish the workout area wasn't on a declined slope. Lots of cleaning areas with hand sanitizer. I really can't complain at all I am pretty grateful at this point.

Would’ve been 5 stars but the urgency of some of the staff to help is lacking. Brandon and Marilyn are great but some of the staff here got hired from looking good in yoga pants and nothing else. No sense of urgency to help customers that needed help, even with weight crushing them. Big turn off to hear someone yelling for help and staff just ignoring it.

This is my favorite 24 Hour Fitness location. It's a bit of a drive for me but well worth the extra time and gas. I go primarily for the fitness classes. They have a very full and varied group class schedule compared to many other gyms which have really scaled down their offerings. I also go to this gym because they have plenty of televisions. I don't love cardio and I need the distraction of stories, drama, cooking competitions, reality shows, judge shows, interviews, so on to keep me on the treadmill and there's always one or two tvs (out of about 30?) that are not tuned to news or sports. I especially appreciate the management here. I had a personal issue come up and Steve Snook, the general manager, was sooooooo kind and understanding. He listened to me and came up with a solution that was perfect. I can't say enough how much I appreciated this. I definitely feel he is there for members if needed. Other reviewers have mentioned the gym can be crowded and the parking lot gets full (luckily, there's an adjoining H-Mart lot and there's always parking between the two). That's true but even at its busiest I've never had trouble getting in a class or finding equipment to use-- It's a very well equipped gym. So, 5 stars for the equipment, the variety of group classes, finding a tv to keep my interest, 2 huge parking lots, and a most excellent general manager!

  • 3/5 Eliza H. 11 months ago on Google
It's a big gym right in the middle of everything, so naturally it's crowded all the time. Don't bother going right after work - you'll have to circle the parking lot twice and the gym itself reeks of all the bodies inside sweating. It's a good place to work out at 8pm or on weekends.

Went to this gym for a few years and although it's not the biggest/newest super sport, it's decent. There's a good amount for space between all the equipment and the bathrooms we're usually pretty clean. I never used the showers though. Due to COVID, they've moved their equipment outdoors into a section of the parking lot and on the sidewalk in front of the gym entrance. Members are allowed to use the bathrooms indoors. So as of 11/15 there's no access to indoor equipment, except the bathrooms and for front desk check-in.

Best gym in San Diego! The staff is great, the trainers I've had were very professional and knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a modern gym.

I have not been to this gym in over 7 months due to the pandemic, but they keep billing me every month even after requesting to have my account froze.

The equipment is great. More than enough even when it’s packed. Atmosphere is great. Unlike other 24 hour fitness locations in LA people here actually do their reps and move on.

This place is practically my second home, everything is laid out in a way which is easy for new people to navigate different work outs

Not criwded, all wearing masks, no contact check-in using the app:)

It’s a large gym pretty clean. Have decent newer equipment. I go in the morning so not terribly crowded. I couldn’t imagine at night. The staff is not friendly at all and they have these huge fans but barely turn them on so they are useless. You ask to turn them up and no one know how. Lacking in customer service for sure. But I guess what do you expect from a 24hour.

If you have never heard of a torso ergometer, you are missing out on the greatest cardio machine for folks with bad knees. Best upper body pump ever. Apparently this club doesn't really know that either. Otherwise good clean club.

I swim 2miles 6 days a week. I've always gotten a lane except when there was aqua class. The lanes are wide enough for two.

Nice quiet gym. I call this gym the no talking to customers. The late night staff does not talk to you when you sign in so I don't talk to him.

may not be perfect but it's open. The facility is nice but for it to be open they moved a bunch of equipment outside. there is a slight slope to the parking lot but machines are oriented to where it doesnt matter much. They have most every thing out side and universal machine in a tent, I do wish they had 2 universals.plenty of supplies to clean the benches and for the most part everybody seems to wipe up after themselves.

I love this gym! The staff are so nice, and very good at greeting you upon your entrance! No judgement as everyone is at different levels of their fitness journey. The spin classes are amazing as well!

Nice facility, so far my only dislike is the loud music they play, 99% of us listen to our own stuff and that can interfere a bit.

I freeze my account medical for one month. But the front desk representative massed up. Management should update their staff and train them how to deal with customers. Rude attitude. Waiting for end of my contract.

This is my first time ever being to this location because it just happened to be close to where I work. I don’t think I’ll be back here again. Someone broke into my locker proving that this is not a safe space. The gym itself is really nice and large with lots of equipment… But what good is all that equipment if you don’t feel safe with your personal belongings?
