6 hours in the emergency room to receive a doctor who stayed in the room for 5 minutes and gave the recommendation to give water to my son. TOOK MY SON TO THE SAN DIEGO EMERGENCY. He had a 107-degree fever, coughing, vomiting, and a runny nose. After many hours in pre-care, registering and confirming his health safety, and the care of a doctor who recommended giving water to my son. I asked and they said they had a single doctor for 15 rooms in the ER. A SHAME for a hospital said to be in the top 10 in California. SHAME SHAME

Don't recommend the night shift nurses don't seem like they care or like children and are ignorant despite waiting 4 hours in the ER and being patient along with 45 other people we got seen and as we waited to be descharged one of the nurses wanted to get us out so bad she was being scandalous outside our door with the other nurses talking about how she was trying to get us out, completely unprofessional all I could hear was them whispering and looking across the hall into our room. Take note that I was waiting for my ID and insurance card otherwise I would have left a long time ago I don't like leaving bad reviews but If I'm putting my child's life on the line I'm better off at a local urgent care.

Standard wait time of 4-5hrs, but probably longer on most days. No one checks in on your child after several hours of waiting. Most families (approx 12 in last 5 hours) leaving with sick children because the waits are too long and they feel abandoned by the hospital. Not what you want to experience for your child’s health. Leaving this review with the hope that management sees this and takes the steps to make a better effort to service this community.

I know how important reviews are to parents wondering if a place is good for their child, so I felt like I needed to come write a review of our really good experience based on how many extremely negative ones have been written. Tuesday night I brought my four month old daughter to Rady’s after being referred for RSV, low oxygen, labored breathing and extreme respiratory distress at an urgent care apt. The staff was amazing and sprung right into action given her status and age, and figured out she had a fever that spiked up to 104. within a hour and a half they had gotten her on oxygen, got an IV in and were getting all her tests done. They were super sweet and attentive even though they were SO busy. We were admitted and spent three nights in the general medical floor. The doctors, respiratory therapists and nursing staff was amazing. They made sure we were both comfortable (our whole family is sick, so I was in there with her sick myself) and got her the help she needed. She went from looking so miserable and like a little grey sad zombie to a giggly and happy baby in three days. I cannot say enough good things about the hospital and staff and know she would not have gotten that level of care at any of the hospitals closer and so glad we made the hour drive down. To the staff of wing 2B, Aurora and I thank you so much for taking such good care of our girl 💗

The worst place ever. The worst place in the world. My 9-month-old baby came in with a high fever, and instead of providing hydration, they filled her up with Tylenol. Any living human being knows that hydration is much better than any kind of medication. They didn't even examine her ears because there was wax, and instead of cleaning it to make sure it wasn't an ear infection, and since they have all the materials for it, they claimed she had a sore throat. Any REAL DOCTOR knows that it's very rare for a child under 2 years to have a sore throat, especially an infant of a few months. She left there drugged up, nothing was mentioned about hydration, with an ear infection, not a throat issue. Robotic doctors, inexperienced and ruthless nurses. One of them forcibly administered medication down my daughter's throat, and she immediately vomited it all. What kind of human forces a baby to take medicine? And what doctor fails to properly examine a baby because there's earwax and wrongly assumes a throat issue? OPEN YOUR EYES.

I was a bit worried after reading reviews, and waiting for my teen to be seen. The bullet proof reception was odd, though you walk in first speaking to a nurse, then being taken for vitals. They are thorough, taking full medical background and medication history. After that, they triage in order. On our Monday night, we maybe waited an hour after vitals were done. My teen has super sensitive veins, and they nailed it on the first try! Before that, the nurse listened to her vein concerns and worked a plan with heat packs for better success - with over half a dozen ER visits, we had t seen this before. The care team also figured out a cocktail to help reduce her pain- pain fixe other hospitals and two urgent cares couldn’t reduce at all. Lastly, they didn’t presume her symptoms were of her chronic conditions. They considered them, but opted for further testing that led to a diagnosis. When in San Diego, I would return to Rady’s in a heartbeat.

GUT MALROTATION PATIENT!! We’ve been loyal patients for the past 9 years of my daughter’s Short Bowel Syndrome journey. The treatment we experienced 1/20/23 was shocking, unacceptable and could've cost her life. They treated my child like an insurance payees check-off list, not a chronically ill patient. Parents of chronically ill kids know sunken eyes, pale skin, bilious vomit, upper-ab pain and fainting merit a ER check-up! I called ahead & the RN suggested we bypass urgent care & our PCP for Immediate electrolyte bolus + X-ray (protocol for suspected bowel obstruction). She’d exhibited similar symptoms from a ruptured bowel in the past which led to sepsis and a life-saving emergency surgery--Not our first rodeo-- which is why the RN thought we needed faster x-rays than urgent care could offer. I grab our go bag and make the 1.5 drive. Front desk is great- checks us in immediately, then we proceed to the back rooms. 5 HOURS in, still no imaging or fluids!! —Dr.W arrived after 6 hrs unable to tell me what we were waiting for or why. I was very patient and grateful she was receiving fluids however, if they were not concerned they should've given us further steps and communicated instead of letting us sit there all day! We waited until the next day, through SEVERAL SHIFT CHANGES!!! 13 hour total visit Staff kept us in the back room for 9 hours and the hallway for 3. lied about which tests were pending until I figured out it was drugs and pregnancy. She 12! They didn’t inform or ask for consent. I, as the parent and she, as the patient have the right waive a pregnancy test if an emergency x-ray is needed or wanted. In 9 years we've had some wonderful, life-saving experiences at Rady's. The floor rooms--especially 4 east Bldg--are fantastic! The staff and clinics have been truly wonderful until this visit! I don't leave bad reviews but I needed to share so hopefully another ADHD & malrotation clinic kid doesn't go through extreme dehydration and a POINTLESS but pricey 13 hr visit.

I was here for a mental health issue and everything was great. The nurses and everyone were all very kind and patient. Even the food was good. I also think this hospital is very clean and organized. The only thing that was kinda bad was that I had to wait a long time for a room, but it’s understandable because they probably have a lot of patients. 10/10 experience!

The nurses were so sweet and kind! However unless you want to wait for your emergency for your child for 4-6hrs then do your best to seek treatment elsewhere. I know they have one doctor for all these sick kids and it’s not sufficient! Do better Radys when it comes to overworking your employees preventing them to even do their jobs effectively and efficiently because the patient to nurse and doctor ratio is unbelievable! Don’t come here.

Horrible experience with this facility. No aftercare instructions were given prior to the cast being put on, and my son was in constant suffering the 24 hours following his visit. Why? Because the doctor “forgot” to give aftercare instructions including how much dose of medicine was needed and how the arm had to be taken care of if further pains occurred. When we called the following day, we explained what was said above to the receptionist , and she quickly tried to cover up the fact that the doctor and the nurse had forgotten to tell us the most important information after that procedure. She then explained that you were supposed to double the intake of medicine and do specific things with the injured arm to prevent further pain. Did the doctor or nurse tell us this during our visit? No, he did not. We weren’t given any information following our visit. My son was in pain following that visit, and we were told he would be fine. Then we showed up to the ER again and it took a whopping 3 hours to see the doctor, all which was happening while my sons arm was swelling and in severe pain. He is a 12 year old boy and this is a children hospital and this facility forgot to tell us vital information that could determine the state of my sons arm? On top of all this, the rooms around us were continuously filtering patients in and out, while my son was waiting in the ER for 3 hours on the second visit. My son did not get the proper treatment both medically and socially. He said he felt uncomfortable with the nursing staff and mentioned that they weren't very nice to him, treating him like he wasn't a priority. Absolutely horrible staffing and an horrendous experience for my son.

The medical staff, most especially the nurses, were absolutely amazing. For just the nurses I'd give 10 stars. But I'm giving 3 because the first interaction at the hospital is always the security. They have a job to do. And I respect that. But good bedside manners shouldn't just be something the medical staff should practice. NO ONE wants to be at any hospital, let alone one for children. You can still effectively do your job without demeaning, disrespecting, belittling, and judging people that are already in some state of distress. You don't need to be saints. Just be decent human beings with enough empathy and compassion for what the people you're interacting with, are going through.

Very grateful to the hospital staff in general Doctors, nurses, food, cleaning absolutely everyone I feel they could have acted faster with my daughter's problem in the first days of hospitalization but now it only remains as an experience for the doctors and for us as parents. All the nurses in general always treated her excellent 👌 👍 👏 The doctors at 2rose always encouraged her, also giving us all the information they could. Selene from 2rose and Victoria from PICU, they were always very kind to my daughter trying to always keep her positive Dr. Johanna Chang, very grateful for giving a timely diagnosis and treatment to her condition. Everyone in this place should have a daily recognition And after 40 days we are going home 🏡 🙏 Thank God

My son experienced a lot of pain. We waited for 30 minutes in the lobby and over an hour in the room before we could see anyone. Throughout this time, my son was in pain and vomiting, and it seemed like they didn't care. I believe it's not the fault of the nurses or doctors but rather the pressure the hospital puts on them by not hiring enough staff. It appears they prioritize charging fees over adequate staffing, putting undue pressure on healthcare professionals.

This review is only for the Cast Room. It is tough enough caring for a child who needs to be in the hospital yet tougher when the Cast person is snappy, cold and all around grumpy. If you need casting and see Lisa please request someone else. There is no need to suffer a horrible treatment

Horrible experience. My son got covid, waited 4 hours to be seen while waiting my sons temperature went from 101 to 104. The entire night shift acts like they don’t care about children. We waited without being checked on while hearing the nurses be unprofessional talking about trips they want to take. They advised unless my child’s temperature got to 107 then it wasn’t urgent are you kidding me! All that time waisted just for them to recommend ibuprofen. We ended having to go to the emergency room and there they gave my 1 year old prescription medicine. The doctors and nurses at Radys children should be ashamed of there selves. I hope management sees this and makes the appropriate changes for the sake of our children.

The eating disorder unit is absolute trash. They treated me like I wasn’t human and told me prior that they would take out my feeding tube If I was orally compliant (which I was) But changed their mind because the facility I was going into next wanted it in. I earned up to it even though it was painful for me to eat. Thanks for making me feel invalid. + the lack of privacy is violating. They would stare at me when I was using the restroom and had a time limit for how long you can take. Me as a teenage girl had the door opened when my FATHER was in the room and got told to wrap it up. Disgusting place.

8.5 hours of waiting and they still haven’t managed to treat a broken arm. Staff seems kind and competent but there just isn’t enough of them apparently… Arrived here at 8pm Saturday and now it’s 3:30am (4:30 without the time change) and we are still waiting for the Dr to set the arm/cast…

First and foremost I thank God for getting us HERE . As of today this has been mine and my daughter's home for the past 17 days the amount of support the amount of thoughtfulness the focus from the doctors to my child has been more than outstanding if I could give them 10 Stars I would. Urology nephrology hematology her primary team everybody has been great. I don't have not one complaint for this hospital thank you again to all the doctors for the great care the focus on my daughter's sickness and moving forward as well. Good job Rady Children's Hospital.

If you care about the life of your child do not take your child here or to this ER. My son was grossly misdiagnosed and this might forever affect his life. Look for reliable specialists that are unbiased and have a documented history of long-term excellent ratings and success. I acknowledge that everybody's experience is different. Ours was not positive and might have ended up with a much worse outcome. We will definitely not return here and will share our experience with friends and family.

This is the worse hospital we have ever been to. First of all it is not clean at all. They use gum-stuck sheet for patients so that’s how they treat their patients. Secondly and most importantly they have you wait so long, hours and tell you that they prioritize children with dying conditions( one of nurses literally said that to me)although we went there with severe Covid-19 symptoms which is a deadly virus, that’s something they supposedly know better than us. Anyways. I guess we were lucky to be given a bed but still no doctor showed up for almost two hours. When I checked out the surroundings there were not as many patients as there were supposed to be, only few people. Though no doctors. So we had to leave bc we didn’t want our child get any more germs from that place. Plus some of their staff are so rude and keep defending the poorly conditions of the facility. We have respect for health provider but you too must have respect for your patients as well by showing them that you care and understand their situations. From what I saw, I am assuming that there is only one doctor. So if you are understaffed why not hire more people since there are a lot of complaints already and increasing cases every day. At the end of the day what we pay our taxes for!!!!!

Worst ER in the County. Must wait over 6 hours. My 7 years old hit her head at school. Started to vomiting. 6 times only treat her for vomiting after 6 hours. Next time I will lied and make my case more drastic. I only take my daughter to ER for emergency. This time I took her to urgent care and they sent me to ER. Reason I took her. Stay away unless is a really emergency.

So my son was having a very bad headache, along with pain on his left eye, and fever! Called rady’s children’s hospital and asked about the wait time and the operator said 3-3.5 hours!! I didn’t mind it so I took him right after I hung up the phone then we come we get checked in and wait and wait we came around 8:30pm and now it’s 1:13am and still waiting in lobby the funny thing is nobody comes and checks on your child unless you go and ask for it and 2nd everyone that checked in after us wether they are infants, toddlers or teenagers were all taken inside first after 2-3 hours for example one teenage girl around her 14-15yrs of age came in after us and was taken inside first and if u look at the girl u would say nothing is wrong she was sitting chatting laughing with her mom and probably doing homework on her laptop!!! I didn’t understand what was so urgent about her situation then my 6 years old and the other lil kids that were having seizers, fevers, and throwing up for hours in the lobby.. this experience doesn’t make this country or hospital better then other counties.. and not to mention I have a 4 yr old child with type 1 diabetes that was with me and her blood sugar started going up bc she was uncomfortable and I did mention that to them and all the staff could say was “sorry, if this is a hassle to her feel free to leave” after waiting 5 hours the nurse had the guts to say that that easily. Worst hospital and staff if I or others had a better option we definitely wouldn’t be sitting here today.

Today I took my 11 year old , son (who is autistic), yo get his covid vaccine (1st dose). I had talked to him and he was prepared for it , because in the past 2 years he has for some reason become very scared of shots. Well, we got there, check-in was fast and staff were super friendly, once he sat down for his shot, he because extremely upset and scared. Mind you my son is BIG for his age, and is rather strong. He started refusing, and tried to run away. The nursing staff tried to calm him down, didn't work. We had to hold him down between several of them and myself. As my son cried, I started to cry, but the nurses were so kind and caring. They made sure both him and I were ok and reassured my son that he did a great job (although it was a big struggle) , and myself that this happens and I should not feel bad about it. I wish I knew all their names, because the whole time they were so gracious and kind. Thank you for what you do! The real unsung heros!

The care members are great but the billing department is an absolute nightmare. For the same repeating service I kept getting billed wildly different amounts. I called multiple people countless times with no resolve. I just want answers but no one knows what they are doing or why things are being billed differently. They have also tried billing me twice for the same visit. It's caused me so much stress and time for nothing. Check your bills. They overcharge wherever they can. It's very sketchy!

I can’t thank everyone enough!! WK

Care here was great. Unfortunately they coded my daughter’s treatment incorrectly - documented only procedures that were “not medically necessary” even though my child was admitted for an overnight stay for treatment. Thus my insurance would not cover anything. Called multiple times and spoke with multiple departments who all confirmed that nothing could be done to change how her treatment was coded and it would remain documented as not medically necessary care. If it wasn’t medically necessary, why was she admitted and treated? Truly makes no sense. Also sad that they don’t seem to care to help parents get expensive medical care covered by insurance.

Hospital staff is great, billing is another story. They'll tell you it'll be one price and then just change it without telling you. Then when you point out that it should be the agreed upon amount, they'll just threaten to charge you more.

Was just in the ER last weekend with my 2 year old daughter and nurses and staff were good, but given the nature of our visit (an accident) a social worker became involved in our case and was nothing short of non-compassionate, making an already stressful situation more stressful. As far as I am concerned, she doesn’t know her job well enough to recognize this as a very unfortunate mishap that no parent wants to experience. Instead, in the 15 minutes or less that she interacted with us, she made very Ill-informed assumptions. Fortunately, my child is fine and she has been receiving extra, extra love and care at home. I will never return to this hospital again! Moving forward, I prefer to either go to a non-Children’s hospital in San Diego or go outside of San Diego county if necessary to visit a Children’s hospital again. This is the second disappointing experience I’ve had with Rady’s! On a positive note, the Child Life Specialist was AMAZING!!!!

WENT THERE 2 TIMES ALREADY FOR A REALLY HIGH FEVER that has been going on for almost a week already for an 8 year old. All they did the first time was run some test on him (blood work, covid, & urine) & send us back home. Still haven't received any test results. Just told us to give Tylenol for fever. We were there for 6 hours at least. Went back today because fever has continued plus vomit & waited at least 3 hours before we decided to leave. I understand and appreciate nurses are working with what they can & it's extremely packed & busy but just didn't feel like we were helped what so ever it's quite ridiculous. It's NOT normal for a kid to get a high fever every 3 hours plus vomit. I know there were people waiting for at least 5 hours & hadn't even been helped yet. Oct25,2022

Rady is an amazing children's hospital. The Nurses, Doctors, and staff are all amazing. My daughter has spent time here for an illness no other hospital understood. Radys figured out her illness quickly and effectively treated it. She has scoliosis and had to have major back sergury last month. Radys once again gave her unmatched care. If it's possible to get your child to this hospital, DO IT. If you live anywhere close bring your child here. Most hospitals are not set up for children, this one is all about children.

The first time I took my daughter here it was fine, they treated her and diagnosed her right away. The second time was horrible, waited in the waiting room for 5 hours, and when I asked the nurse if there was a time frame for when she would be next, nurse got rowdy with me and said “If someone came in here right now and needed a doctor more than you, they would be next just wait your turn” Then once in the room with my daughter, I was there because my toddler had poured a glass of water over her face thinking it wouldn’t spill so quickly, she started gasping for air so being the helicopter mom I am, I took her to the ER to make sure she didn’t inhale any water that would lead to pneumonia, the doctor examined her and then said she was fine. But then she kept questioning me saying “are you sure it wasn’t alcohol she spilled on herself, she should be fine it happens you know we all leave out a glass here and there” I said no it was water and he said “well she seems fine but you know are you sure it wasn’t alcohol, it happens” first of all, if it was alcohol she would have smelled like it, second I assume she only questioned me because I am a young mom. I was deeply offended. They need more sympathetic employees here. Never have I ever had this type to treatment at Scripps!

I had a good experience when they treated my daughter 3 years ago but NOT ANYMORE !!! My relative is fighting leukemia and other illnesses and they basically tryna force him to give up and not keep fighting he’s so young and full of life , they’re basically giving up on him 🤦🏼‍♀️ what kind of doctors do that instead of supporting your choice to keep fighting and motivating you they make you want to lose hope! Nope no never going back there again !

My daughter had a kidney and bladder ultrasound. For 10 minutes of service I got bill to pay $536 out of pocket. The price on the website is lower and when I tried to dispute it, they said that the price on their website is just an average. They call it "Price transparency". Btw, the ultrasound equipment is so old. If you are charging so much money, why don't you renew your equipment???

The staff has gotten so rude is there any management or anybody that overseas the staff seems like a free for all. I took my 2 son's on 11/13 the lady checking in looked like she hated her job the ladies that did vitals in cubicles were ok we get to a room and I told the DR. my 2 year old has had a bad cough for 3 weeks and it seems like it's getting worse I want to make sure it's not in his lungs where he would need an inhaler or antibiotic and she says why did you say inhaler are you trying to get one for yourself or somebody else in your family and I said nobody in my family has asthma or is sick nobody needs an inhaler and again she insisted that i want an inhaler for myself and thats why i mentioned an inhaler and i said a few months ago he was sick and needed an inhaler for a couple weeks and thats why im asking. Is this the hospital protocol acuse a concerned parent of insurance fraud or lying to get medication? My 10 week old baby tested positive for RSV and they suctioned and did deep suctioning of the nose so he could breathe better the rude Dr. was wanting to admit him but I said I think I could manage the flem again with the nose frida well I was wrong so I went back 11/16 and explained that he is having difficulty breathing at home and needs to be suctioned. The nurse that did the suctioning said you can't keep bringing him back here to be suctioned. Oh really so I can't take an infant tested positive for RSV who has difficulty breathing to the only place that has deep suctioning to be suctioned so he can breathe better? Why did they come out with a RSV vaccine ? To prevent hospitalizations dummy. What do babies with RSV need hmmm... let me think ....suctioning!!!! Why can't my baby get the RSV vaccine because it's only for babies born with problems right now and the healthy babies can't get it until there's more supply. So you don't want to help him breathe because he was born healthy and normal and has RSV and to you that's not very severe. Then listen to this while I was waiting to be discharged I was the only one in the side cubicles for less triaged patients because they already suctioned the baby in the emergency room and the lady nurse says to the guy nurse that the patients in the waiting room have only been waiting for an hour that they should make them wait a little more before they call anyone. That's why wait times were longer than usual because you had lazy staff working purposely making people wait longer because they felt that waiting only an hour wasn't long enough. Too bad only emergency room for kids in San Diego!

The doctors here are top notch and very experienced. Sometimes there's a wait if you are a walk in, but that's cause they're the best.

Ridiculous! I took my 11 month old to get checked out due to him having lots of phlegm and mucus causing him a difficult time breathing and sleeping. The nurse acknowledged the baby continued to make wheezing noises. I was LITERALLY in the waiting area for about 4 hours. I tried asking for help to see how much longer due to my Child needing to eat and being very fuzzy they just told me to ask different nurses. Once they were able to supposedly check they system they said he was next to be called one (4 other people passed within the next hour still were were not called) once again RIDICULOUS

I’ve come in through the ER, come in through the Orthopedic Walk-in, gone to the infusion center, & more. The staff here is amazing. Things don’t always go as planned, but the caring, patience and expertise here is unmatched. We are lucky to have such an amazing Children’s Hospital here in SD.

12 hours later and finally going home. Will be avoiding this place going forward. The wait times and miscommunication really amazed me for a childrens hospital. They need a new system. On the other hand, the orthopedic was so knowledgeable, so nice, and calm. I felt confident with him.

I want to leave an amazing review for all of the employees that worked at Rady‘s Children’s Hospital while we came through there. My daughter fell off of a rock wall wall free climbing and broke her arm. From the amazing women who checked us in as we walk to the front door to the triage people in the trauma room to the nurses who attended to her while she was there. Every single person cared about her and me. They really went above and beyond to make sure that we are comfortable and respected and cared for in every way. The good news is my daughters arm is only lightly fractured and will only require a cast. But their care and attention to her really made her feel better and put my concerns at ease. Thank you to the entire ladies team who really made an amazing difference in our traumatic experience. We will never forget it. You are angels!

I'm here at the moment so far they didn't give my daughter a diagnosis with high fever 1 week ago, they punctured her several times instead of quickly calling someone more experienced to do it! I'm in a tiny room with 3 small children because they've told me there's no room available! i am in pain because my 4 year old daughter is sleeping in my arms and the bed is my sick daughter and my 1 year old son! I was very well received, I just didn't like being here at this time without being in a better room!

Thank you so much to the entire team of Rady Children’s Hospital for saving my daughter’s life!! I can’t thank enough the emergency team for the quick response with taking care of my 4 month old daughter who had RSV and was struggling to breathe! The triage team took us right in and started to stabilize my baby in minutes. To the nurses on the second floor the doctors and the respiratory therapist thank you for answering my repeated questions and assuring me my baby was in the right place!!

Staff went above and beyond to care for my sick child and made sure that us parents were comfortable (provided us blankets, water and snacks while in the ER treatment area). We did not have to wait long to be attended to at every step, from check in to triage to treatment. I highly recommend this hospital and grateful it was recommended to us

I want to thank Dr Jane Burns for all her input when my 8 month old was diagnosed with Kawasaki. I remember not knowing what to do as a parent seeing my child suffer from a disease not well known in my country, then I found Dr Jane Burns who was ready to share her medical opinion over the call, guided my doctor from countries away. She was our ray of hope at that time. Dr Jane Burns, You are a gem. My family and I are very thankful for you.
