Wonderful piece of history! Located in the middle of the touristy location of San Francisco - Pier 45. Parking nearby is scarce, you may consider parking further away and taking a cable car or a bus to get there. Self-guided tour recordings made by actual crew of the submarine are available - a QR code to access them is available at the ticketing Over a thrilling experience since the submarine is in the water, you get to hear water hitting the side of it and rocking it left and right It's quite cramped inside, in case you are claustrophobic! Masks are required to enter into the submarine

Having never experienced being on a sub before, this was a very interesting experience. I like that it’s self guided, unfortunately they don’t offer Internet connection to download their audio guide. Anyways just wandering around in the sub was fun, and trying to imagine what it was like to be stuck on that ship for weeks and weeks and months on end with a group of 70 other people. I don’t know how they didn’t go crazy, but a great experience. Oh my goodness, could you imagine sleeping over a torpedo??!!

A great way to really appreciate the sailors who manned our WWII submarines. Amazing look at the inner workings and living conditions. Definitely recommend going. Adult tix are $25, but we got the SF City Go pass and it was included, which was awesome.

It's such a cool attraction. To be able to walk on top and through an actual submarine in the water was a great experience. To be able to talk with a vet of the submarine to gain an added experience. Watch your head and knees, moving around and going through the doorways. Lol definitely would recommend taking the tour.

This was complete stumble-on while wandering about on Fishermans Wharf and well worth the tour thru the boat. The tour inside takes about 50 minutes and for anyone interested in WWII era submarines, is strongly recommended. Excellent audio tour using your cell phone of an excellently prepared exhibit. Fascinating and humbling. A testimony of the courage for those who went to war in these vessels. A tribute to those who did not return and who along with their boats remain on Eternal Patrol.

The Pampanito is kept in really really great condition. It's a little pricey to get on board considering the USS Hornet is $5 cheaper but if you love submarines it really is a must see. The downside being is that there's a good amount of components blocked off. With good reason of course it's a museum piece but just as a warning before taking your kids. 👍👍

It was a great place full of rich history but is not for the faint if heart as it is hard to maneuver and I would say is only for true historical lovers. But it was super cool and compared to other places is the area is pretty cheap. Overall a 10/10 place to visit!

There's really not that much to see. If you like history, this will be great for you. You can experience how WW2 submarine sailors lived and walk around a bit and that's about it. There's a free audio tour but I didn't want it. The walking areas are sometimes only big enough for a single person to go through so you'll kind of have to negotiate with other visitors to move around.

This was such an incredible hidden gem along the piers. I popped in on a whim and it was well worth the price of admission! Such an incredible experience to see a submarine still very accurate to when it served back in '45. The audio tour podcast, which included input from actual crew of the submarine, was immersive and informative. Definitely stop by if you're even vaguely interested in naval history, marine technology, and historical sites.

We stumbled across this gem while walking in and out of all things on the Fisherman’s Wharf. Great history and what a way to try to even slightly imagine what it was like for those great American heroes at that time. $25 donation to tor the sub. It is kind of freaky because it does still move with the waves.

I served on a submarine in the '80s, so I had a really good idea of what I would find. Although, to see the tight quarters the submariners used to live in, puts things into a whole different perspective. Definitely worth the tour, it's self-guided and you can take your time.

It was too expensive. I get it, they are hard to maintain, but 20 bucks per person is a lot. It was an interesting tour and the place is well set up. Too expensive. Make sure it is worth it to you, and the merchant marine ship on the same pier is the same price, so consider which would be more interesting.

Along with the Liberty Ship USS Jeremiah O'Brien (Pier 35), this submarine is one of the nautical treasures at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. It's a monument to the stout hearted WW2 sailors who ventured forth from Hawaii to bring the war to the Japanese following Pearl Harbor. Life wasn't easy aboard these cramped vessels. The Pampanito is located behind the Musee Meccanique on Pier 45. It's moved around over the years. OK for kids, but not for the disabled, due to cramped passageways and ladders.

It’s pretty cool to get inside a WWII submarine alone. It’s even better to have a free audio tour that includes interview with former crew members. The only downside was that the webpage would reload after I switch back from using my camera. By the 3rd room I’ve lost signals. I listened to the rest of the audio tour afterward. Also there weren’t many tourist today. I ran into one family of 3 down there and 6 other on my way out so I took time to look at all the details.

I could never imagine living in that thing during war. Walking through the sub really puts things in perspective. I love my tiny room in NY. Much more comfy than living in this sub. Very cool museum!

What a sight with a relic this. The smell of oil and other things of the WWII. Being g part of something that in the war and having our grandpa's fighting in the war and I walked I walked into same spaces brought chilles because it was upward of 80 years now.

A gem! Great walkthrough you can do by yourself along with a 30 minute long audio to learn about the submarine! Before entering they have a QR code to scan! Make sure not to exit out of the audio and not to pause too frequently because the internet doesn’t really work that well down there. I’m surprised I haven’t heard many people mention this as an activity to do. I loved every minute it!

I loved it, what a fascinating tour of a WWII Diesel Sub. On top of its historic value it was also used in the movie "Down Periscope" which I realised after. The ticket cost is 25 dollars and its frankly worth it. The tour is well guided with audio and I was guided by a veteran Submariner so I discovered so much extra on a first hand basis. It was a real highlight of my trip.

We loved walking around the ship. It can be strenuous and small places you have to go through, but it is definitely worth a visit. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful

An unexpected find whilst walking down the seafront in SF. So cool to be able to go inside a huge submarine. Highly recommend.

Fascinating ww2 era submarine with torpedoes and well preserved equipment. Astonished at some if the things that we could see in there. Recommend going later in the day when there are much less people.

Awesome experience with this one. Even if you're not a history or military buff. Beautifully preserved WW2 submarine. Tour is straightforward, informative and fun, and you go at your own pace. You can download an audio app on your phone and it acts as a guided audio tour, and it's very well done. Inside, it's cramped, cold, musty, and smells of old diesel and oil, you REALLY experience what these men went through serving on a WW2 submarine. Highly recommended.

Awesome opportunity to set foot into the WWII submarine and be transported back in time. This gem is kind of tucked away between Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. It is a self guided tour. Give yourself ample time to experience the life of our soldiers inside this submarine

The $20 entrance fee seems steep, but if you've never been in a submarine it's totally worth it! Also I would recommend following along with the audio rather than just trying to self guide yourself.

Real submarine which sunn real ships. However the audio guide is only available if you have internet connection. As tourists we had none, so only 3 stars.
