Another amazing authentic American Diner experience!! The service was friendly and efficient with a very warm welcome. The atmosphere was vibrant and fun. We picked a table with a jukebox and our server happily changed some dollar bills to quarters for us. This made for good fun while awaiting our food. We both opted for the classic burger, I had blue cheese and himself had pepper Jack - both were absolutely delicious and cooked to order which is one of my favourite things about burgers outside of Europe. Himself tells me his malt was the best he has ever had!! We had great fun and great food and would suggest it’s definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner.

Found this place using Google maps while in the bay area. I've always liked 50s style diners. The atmosphere was very 50s. Traditional styling for the Era. The service wasn't too bad either. They were quite busy and still stayed on top of things. The food wasn't Supreme, I mean I can't even remember what I had. But I know it wasn't bad. I do know that this Mel's is cheaper than the one across town. Overall, I do recommend this place for sure. I think we will be going again when we are in the area.

Nice to visit a classic like Mel’s. Even though this is a “Next Generation” Mel’s (the last original location was demolished in 1976) it still retains all the charm and character as the originals. The staff are clearly used to bustling traffic as the food comes out fast and hot. Great for groups or solo dining at the counter. Food is good. And yes, the chicken soup is as good as they say.

A well known diner at San Fran. The surrounding area is very run down and packed with the homeless and needles on the street. Just becareful when getting there. Anyways the food is amazing staff were really nice and the service top notch. The sizes and portions are massive and the taste solid. Weekends tend to be busy but the weekdays are good.

Given the state of San Francisco has gone downhill since the internet bubble burst (plus the many crisis that followed, not to mention covid), it's an eye opening experience to come back to a dump. It's heart breaking to see homeless people everywhere, closed shops scattered around the city and a ridiculous inflation of everything. A $100 could easily feed a party of three to four a few years ago. Nowadays it's just merely two lunches and a drink on the side. Things have gone so out of hand and no matter where you go, a meal is easily over $30+ these days. I understand Mel's has long been a 'classic' diner and honestly a lot of people's favorite, I have other thoughts. I went there late Wednesday afternoon, the lunch crowed was gone and too early for the dinner crowd to arrive. Half of the restaurant was closed and dark, I thought the restaurant was closed at first glance. I stood at the entrance for a good two minutes waiting to be seated. Then it wasn't another ten minutes or so before a waiter would come over to take my order. The whole time there were only three tables with customers, and they were already in the middle of their meals. I ordered the southern fried chicken, it came out nice and hot. On the other hand it's way over salted. The French fries was a generous portion but the bun wasn't anything to write home about. Interesting enough, a soda was close to $4.75 or so, but a mimosa was a close match of $5. It certainly wasn't an earth shattering mimosa, it's still ok to drink. The overall experience was ok, given the food was just ordinary so called American classic. It's perhaps another way of saying it's a big pile of over salted deep fried food that leaves you really thirsty for hours. As comforting as it sounds, it's by far better than Denny's, even that is a big stretch. Was there a lot of food? Yes. Was there great service? There's plenty of room to debate. Was it great food? Only if you consider over salted deep fried food your golden standard, then it's great. Otherwise, it has no nuance or wow effect. I wouldn't mind going back again, but it's only because there aren't too many good choices in the area currently. If I had to pay the same price to dine at a bunch of less than average 'restaurants', I'd accept the slightly better one, in this case it's Mel's.

Good place to have a bite on your way to the club or after, they open late. The setup has the 50's stylish to it which is cool. The food was good & came out fast. Not sure if our server was having a bad day but the service was terrible. I would still recommend checking it out & be your own judge.

You can't go wrong with diners but I gotta say their traditional milkshake(vanilla malt) not a whee bit different from when I first tried it as a teenager in college to now, an adult in her mid-30s 👍🏻👍🏻 and of course they serve you the rest in the mixing tin with almost a whole other glass worth of milkshake! We ordered the Tuna Salad sandwich to share and we were stuffed. They definitely didn't stinge on any of the filling. The coleslaw side was delicious, not sour not it's sweet, dressed very balanced.

This place was possibly once a fantastic restaurant but sadly the place seems tired, lacklustre and is now quite expensive. We had breakfast there and it was pretty bland to be honest, good portion size but the fries were stale tasting and the sliders were dry. Our server was rushed off her feet as she was mostly on her own. We were walking back to our hotel and fancied a desert so we popped back in… sadly the cherry pie pastry was almost raw and the Sunday was just ice cream and fruit purée, no interest from the evening staff at all. I don’t usually leave bad reviews and it feels wrong to do so, but they weren’t really that interested in us at all.
