All I can say is thank god the tickets to go here were free. I don’t know what people are paying to see. Sheets of timber painted with a couple of coats. Scribbles that kids would do. I don’t know what I went into. We have visited museums all over the world and this was by far the worst. The guy at the counter told us we would be 2-3 hours looking around all the exhibitions. We were done in 45 minutes. Staff were not very engaging. All of them were on their phones.

I was fascinated by an architecture and design of the Museum. It is really modern and with great influence of Scandinavian design style. So much space, light and neat geometry! Huge windows, staircases that change their perspective, amazing vertical garden and terrace with sculpture all that makes MOMA the place to go if you are craving for a dose of aesthetics or design inspiration. Their permanent collection is not so interesting for me (just comparing it with European museums and don’t find much to see). But temporary exhibitions could be really worthwhile.

The canvas paintings throughout the museum are either beautiful, creative, or thought provoking. Great place for photos. A must visit in San Francisco. 7 floors of exhibits, with a cafe and patio. Took over an hour and half to walk every floor and patio. I recommend.

I really like the museum. I mean who would not, I really appreciate the wall garden and space for reflection as well as the outdoor sculpture garden 🪴, the book store is awesome and I do not have to mention the shows. The only thing I really did not like was one of the guards shouting on the visitors who were discussing the artworks. Museums suppose to be places for dialog and ideas, for fruitful discussions and sharing. The people weren’t loud, they were just talking and it was so interesting and then this lady came in really not welcoming way to shout for people to be quiet, it’s not church and it was not polite. I didn’t like it.

A must see museum in the city! Has 7 levels of art that is full of a diverse use of art mediums! Huge sculptures, surrealists and abstracts. One exhibit had lights like a disco and a drum set for anyone to play! We were fortunate to see the special exhibit by Diego Rivera. This is a unique museum. You will not be disappointed if you love all forms of art!

This museum is phenomenal. The variation of art on display post WWII is nothing short of astonishing. The museum is well laid out and easy to navigate. Elevators are available but the stairs are very nice and hardly crowded. We found that it was a good time to talk about the collections on the previous floor we had just walked through. (Not that we didn’t discuss pieces as we were walking around) The sky color bridge is amazing! It’s located on the 5th floor and gets busy at times. Each group gets just over 1 minute to go out and back. Each direction offers a different array of colors for the eye to enjoy. They do ask that you keep your mask on as the ventilation is not that great. The time is sufficient but not enough to mess about. It’s a great experience and best seen in bright hours of mid day! The cafe is a good place to grab a refresher if you need one. Don’t forget to look at the pieces on display in the sculpture garden while enjoying your refreshment. The staff is very knowledgeable and more tan willing to answer any questions you have! Will be looking forward to utilizing my newly acquired membership this coming year! I’ve posted just a few pictures of the work there as I believe it’s best viewed in person.

There are quite a few floors in this building. Thankfully I'm able to come here because my company offers some free memberships. It's a cool place to wander around. Some things are a little too modern for my taste but thankfully there are other things that I can appreciate.

This place is quite wonderful to go to on a date. There is seven floors of art magic. They have a huge breathtaking display on the bottom floor honoring Diego Rivera. There's also this monochromatic tube to walk through. Through that is absolutely beautiful both ways that you walk through. Unfortunately there are a lot of lines, but depending on the time of day they go pretty fast. There currently

A beautiful museum with all sorts of artworks, from photographs to sculptures. One can spend an entire afternoon walking through the different exhibits. One thing to note is that the tickets for special exhibits (such as the Kusama one) are usually sold out if you try to buy in person, so I would recommend ordering ahead if you plan on visiting those. There are also ample amounts of nude photographs, so if you're planning to visit with young children, I would research the specific exhibits before entering.

The Diego Rivera mural is in the free section of the museum. Love it. You have to experience it in person. The rest of the museum is full of interesting art on every floor. They have an Alexander Calder display that makes me feel happy. I love this museum. It would take more than one day to see it all.

Must see when in town and fully worth the entrance fee. More than four levels with open exhibitions on modern fine arts. A great combination of outdoor feeling like and indoor spaces that elevate the perception experience of the innovative techniques and technologies around the proposed installations. Should expend more than an hour to go through with detail and be aware on side expositions per limited times.

You will get chance to see Diego Rivera’s huge mural Pan American Unity this year in SFSOMA. It is on first floor and free of charge. The museum is also very nice. It is back to normal and I saw lots of traffic on its entrance. But unfortunately I got to know today that the restaurant In Situ is closed permanently due to pandemic. Sad!

SFMOMA is one of my favorite places to hang out at in San Francisco. The staff people are super nice. The displayed art collections are visually and culturally diverse. I always enjoy having a cup of coffee at the outdoor/indoor cafe on the 5th floor. It's an amazing inspirational place for artists.

Pretty good MOMA. Building architecture is even more interesting than most exhibits. They do a great job at keeping crowds limited during Covid and have a very nice outdoor balcony with a live ‘green’ wall of plants. The cafe area on the roof is nice to have a coffee a take a break at too. I’ve been a member here for several years and overall there are great exhibits that come through. Definitely worth a visit.

They do make a great job. The place is awesome and the galleries and exhibitions they bring are great. It is not so crowded and membership terms are reasonable. Their permanent modern art collection is not only great but they have a section open to the public in the second floor and Diego Rivera on the first floor. Always.

I really love visiting contemporary art museums when I'm in a new city, and SFMOMA was one of the most memorable ones I've been to! They have a huge collection of everything from famous modern art to really unique and experimental pieces. Everything is well-maintained, the exhibitions are excellently organized, and the staff are so friendly! I really liked how they set up their artworks. Even though I got lucky and visited on a free event day, I think the admission price is definitely worth it. I mean every word of this praise!

Great experience! We purchased a membership which allowed us to book tickets for the Infinity Love exhibit for free. We had a wonderful time. The atmosphere is quiet and there is lots of room. We had a great time.

This museum is amazing and definitely worth the price! I didn't have time to visit all 7 floors but it is definitely one you need to add to your bucket list! Go when you have at least 5 hours to walk around if you move more slowly and take the time to appreciate the art.

I don’t know, I am really torn about this museum. Some of the displays were absolutely fantastic… but a lot of them were just… meh. Perhaps I was coming in with too high of expectations, but for a modern art museum in San Francisco, I just felt that too many of the exhibits were a little bit lacking in creativity and aesthetic appeal. The architecture of the museum is certainly interesting and lends itself well to displaying artwork, and perhaps it’s just the exhibits that were on display during our visit (July 2021), but all three of the people in our group were left feeling a little disappointed.

We’ve lived in New York for two years, and we went to many museums in NYC and also visited some museums in Paris and London. We had good time in San Francisco MOMA, and enjoyed our time to visit. No matter the display or the building exterior design, we all love it. I highly recommend to visit.

The building is beautiful and there are many unique displays. Works by Kahlo, Matisse, Rivera and Dali are part of the permanent collection. Robert Indiana’s Love sculpture is outside the cafe. A beautiful spot for it. An Indiana Love painting is also on the second floor near a Warhol self portrait. I wasn’t impressed with the staff though. The woman at the info booth was not very knowledgeable and there was an extremely rude guy manning some entrance. It should be a place you visit.

Spectacular trip. This museum has done an excellent job giving the art lots of room to breathe on the walls. I was inspired rather than overwhelmed. Many interesting shows happening, almost too many to digest. The prism tunnel and the plant wall did not disappoint.

Fantastic museum with 7 floors of art throughout! Highlights were all the beautiful terraces, Cafe on Level 5, and the art on Level 7. Really enjoyed our time here, you can get lost with how much art is on display! I think we saw mostly everything and that was after 4+ hours lol

Tickets: Use the Almeda county library card to get free admission through discover and go web portal, enjoyed the sculptor garden beside the cafeteria. The living wall on the second floor is awesome!! Don’t miss the levitating meteorite . Parking : park in the public parking in Jessi Square and walk from the Jewish contemporary museum to SFMOMA.

Art is very subjective, but, there were a few things that caught my eye. (I had more fun photographing other people looking at the art) There are many floors to explore, but they all do feel a little samey in places. It's also pretty expensive and you could easily be done within an hour. There's a cafe and shop, both of which are pretty pricey. As of August 22 there's a strict mask policy, although how you social distance in a lift I don't know..

It’s a special experience when you allow time to pass and you’re in awe of the masterpiece that’s in front of you! The SF MOMA was a great experience of the appreciation of art and exploration! Beautifully curated pieces, easy to follow flow, amazing atmosphere throughout and peaceful all at the same time. If you’ve got a couple hours, definitely check out this museum! So much history, culture, and ART!!

We went on a kids day through the library I believe so we were all free which was super awesome. The Kids actually really enjoyed it. I try to not take it too seriously so if they are bored of an area we just moved on but I think it was overall. I had a really great experience . It was also Good to get the kids interested in art

Intriguing and interesting art, in varied themes across multiple floors, both indoors and outdoors. Can take at least 3 hours to go around. There's a cafe upstairs and a museum shop downstairs. Paid street parking outside.

Wow, absolutely huge modern art museum in the heart of San Francisco. A huge and spectacular place, great architecture, tons and tons and TONS of exhibits and pieces, it will definitely take you a full afternoon. So much to see, so many spectacular pieces. A little pricey imo but worth it enough I guess. There's a great "Where's Waldo" vantage point hidden off of an outdoor section. Also, the bathrooms are a different solid color on every floor.

The San Francisco museum of Modern Art has a number of exhibits that you can spend your entire day looking through. The museum has exhibits of varying styles and tones, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy. One note is that some exhibits require additional tickets. We arrived in the afternoon and by then they were sold out of those tickets. Be sure to plan ahead if those are the exhibits you want to see!

It is a great place for a family weekend, place to to chat, to enjoy art. Please do park at the SFMOMA parking garage, you will get 10% off parking when you validate with your ticket. Love the architect of the building and the plants wall. There is a great indoor/outdoor dining cafe, get a piece of cake, a cup of coffee, then relax.

There is a Matisse. Would I need to say anything? A must go place if you step by San Francisco. Everything is well placed, and well paced, in under 2:30 hours you can see most of the things in all of the floors. The elevator is really strong: it feels like going to space 🚀 ! Maybe that's a bit of a downside but I even liked that. I really suggest also the dark room with the concert at the 4th or 5th floor: there is the exhibition "the visitors" 2012, which is really calm and deep, and soothing. This museum is essentially a place to take care of our creative souls.

Going to the Momo is always fun. They typically have one major exhibition going on and then some other fun stuff to look at as well. The cafe is a good place to stop and grab a coffee and take a rest. My favorite is the outdoor living wall, but for some reason probably due to covid, they have removed all the seating which is a big bummer. They were not checking vaccination cards at the door which was great, but they still require masks for everyone except for the mayor of San Francisco, which is less great. We very much enjoyed the current exhibit with the colored glass tunnel, it was really cool. Parking tip, park in the moscone center garage a block away, it's safe and relatively inexpensive.

Really needs a solid 3 hours to see the majority of exhibits. There is a wide variety and something for everyone/anyone. Also, I didn't realize that the 2nd floor collection is open to the public! And minors are free to enter (but do need a ticket).

  • 5/5 Dipo D. 2 years ago on Google
If you’re a lover of social art experiences and interactive programs, try making it on the first Thursday of the month. Its a free ticket day and everyones comes out all dressed up. You might also get the chance to hear about some pieces directly from the artists. Well done to all the curators pushing this institution forward!

Visiting SF for the weekend from Toronto and this was an awesome way to spend a big part of the day. Cafe was lovely, and the exhibits were inspiring! With Guyanese roots, I particularly loved exploring Frank Bowling’s work, which opened to the public minutes after I arrived. It was easy to get lost in the work of all artists and the museum itself was gorgeous! Carve out at least 3-4hrs to take your time and walk through all 7 floors.

  • 5/5 Jo A. 10 months ago on Google
I went to see a specific exhibit. It did not disappoint. You can easily spend 2-3 hours if you walked through 7 floors quickly. Or spend 4-5 hours if you want to enjoy some pieces longer. There are a good variety of art to enjoy, for sure.

This was the worst museum I have ever been to. I believe art is a medium that is highly subjective, however, this museum's portrayal of art was so bland. Big canvas pieces are nice when they provoke thought. The time I visited the majority of these canvas pieces were one color. Anyone can grab a roller and paint a wall that doesn't make it meaningful or thought-provoking. I will say there are a "few" stunning works of art there. I found that experience to be too few and too far between. It has been so offensive to me that I have come back months later to leave this review. Save your time and your money when you have a choice between this and a bad movie pick the bad movie. At least then you will have experienced something that took someone time to create.

Totally drab, uninspired collections. Visitors can and do powerwalk through the exhibition spaces. The art is such pap that I was more impressed with the spaces under renovation. (Perhaps they're exhibits in disguise?) I will chuck in an extra star for the lovely building -- it's spacious, well structured and flooded with natural light, all of which make it entirely too good for its contents.

The museum was really nice and large, but had some really odd exhibits. Some were NOT appropriate for kids and some were rather political. Whenever we are in San Francisco, we always plan to visit SFMONA! They have a wonderful selection of paintings and sculptures representing world renown contemporary artists. Historically, it was the first museum on the west coast devoted to modern art. On our last visit, the museum was promoting driverless cars and explaining the technology that helps them navigate around streets during all hours of the day and night.

Got to visit here during their free day and it was absolutely a terrific experience. I only give it four stars because I would have preferred that each floor felt very distinct from the last, and the way they lay out the programming makes it so that you can see somewhat similar aesthetics on multiple floors. A truly fantastic place though and I need to come back to check out their various exhibits throughout the year.

As a somewhat frequent museum goer, this place definitely stands out. They have phenomenal exhibitions and the building itself is wonderful to walk through.

Of course it’s brilliant. Skip the cafe—they’re snotty and totally overpriced and rude. Park at the metreon garage

When I was a design student, I knew that there is a home for modern art called SFMOMA. My dream was to see all of these great artworks under one roof for one day. It fulfilled recently. I saw a lot of famous paintings, photographs and sculptures that normally you can only see in the textbooks. The shop is full of interesting and thought provoking items. My dream now is to see it again:) PS: I saw Magritte with interactive display as well! 7August2018

Fantastic galleries with some of my favorite artists I love to hate. The bathroom was its own exhibit too!

This is such a cool concept and fun date night idea! Admission is very affordable (around $12) but I'm guessing that's because they want you to spend all your money on the expensive food and drinks inside. By the way, the drinks are not very strong for what you pay. Oh, make sure you arrive early because the lines are long! They move fast, though.
