The Jim Henson exhibit was wonderful. It showed off pieces from every Jim Henson era: Sam and Friends, experimental filmmaking, advertising, Sesame Street, Muppets, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and Muppet Vision 3D.

The Contemporary Jewish Museum is free the first Friday of the Month. I got the tickets online and arrived when it opened at 11am. There were 4 exhibits, one was going to end the next day so I was lucky to be able to see it. The front desk scans you ticket barcode and you can begin to explore. The exhibits are very interesting and some even made me emotional. They are engaging and they make you ask yourself certain questions. The photography exhibit was very personal, we got a glimpse inside the artist’s life. The exhibits are not big, but the creative space and art are mentally and emotionally engaging. If you are free the first Friday of the month, I recommend you come with the free ticket.

It’s the best museum! Worth the visit for the architecture. They offer free general admission on first Tuesday of ever month. At the entry gate you have to stop for checking. They conduct tours, have conference hall. Brilliant architecture, great collection. Makes you think about the art and culture of Jewish people. On the second floor one section was closed due to some work in progress. They will probably start it in March!

Lovely contemporary art museum in San Francisco. No parking, nice little cafe inside. Special exhibitions that change frequently cover a wide variety of topics and media. Went on a great docent tour of the special exhibition which really helped me understand the symbolism in the works.

Three major exhibits that are thought provoking and pertinent to the times. Plus other artist exhibits that do not disappoint! Worth the time and the price is right! Right across from the Martin Luther Jr. Memorial and in the heart of Yerba Buena area! Plenty around to see after! Close to SFMOMA. Include it in your plans to San Francisco!

Saw the Jim Henson exhibit and it was a small venue but awesome. The museum is clean and close to public transit. Plenty of places near by for food as well as what looked like a cafe inside.

Great place to spend a couple hours. Some reviewers are calling this place pricey, but at $14 for adults it’s a much better deal than many other museums in the area (which can run at $25-50 a ticket). They feature a ton of contemporary, local artists and change main exhibitions every few months. I’ll definitely be back!

Quintessential visit in the forward thinking, diverse culture of San Francisco - the walking tours are engaging with thorough explanation of the artist’s conviction. Enjoyed the quiet space amongst the noisy city backdrop. It is contemporary, and the museum is not overtly Jewish in its exhibits, so you will be pleasantly surprised by the breath and depth of culture.

I happened to visit when they had very limited exhibition but also offered 50% for admission that felt nice. Stuff is the nicest and kindest - I really haven’t met so polite strangers for a really long time. Thank you! Will definitely come back for next exhibitions.

Visited purely by chance and what a great find! I didn't know what to expect and thought may be similar to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. Its "contemporary" arts exhibits rival any national and international level museum.

The Jewish Museum name is grossly misleading, nothing of Jewish contemporary art in the medium. Feels like a Jewish tourist trap that we got caught up in

Don't waste your time or money. They had a temporary showing of a local potter, fair. The rest of the museum was non existent.

We went on 1st Tuesday of the month which is a free admission day… still feel like we got ripped off. The Contemporary Jewish Museum is neither contemporary nor Jewish and barely qualifies as a museum. It is a post modern display of random non defined cultural art. No rhyme or reason which relates it to Judaism. I don't claim to be an expert on contemporary art but this really was a collection of dreck. I sincerely hope that no public funding was provided to support this museum. It embarrssses me as a Jew. Restrooms were very clean.

I've been wanting to come for a long time, and while I wasn't interested in most of the 'art', I really appreciated the architecture, free entry, air conditioning, and nice restroom. My favorites were the J-Pop room and the balloon animal and flowers. There were so many exhibits where I thought to myself, "This is art?!" or, "What the hell is this?" A highlight is they allow photos, as long as you don't use a flash! I really liked how spacious the floor is laid out- it got pretty crowded around some exhibits, and I often found myself in the middle of people's selfies.

We attended specifically for their tattoo exhibit about Lew the Jew. I found it very interesting, especially with the context of how taboo tattoos are in Judaism. I am not Jewish by ethnicity or religion, nor did I have time to explore the rest of the museum, so can only speak to that specific exhibit. Also, every staff member that I met there was incredibly kind and helpful.

We were at the mall and decided to go here! For the price we paid it was not worth it! The rooms were really pretty but definitely need more rooms! There was only 4-5 rooms!

Really wanted to enjoy the Jim Henson exhibit (and I understand that it was the day before closing), but the staff seemed to have forgotten that there is a pandemic going on and just let hundreds of people into a rather small hall, with no end in site. We lasted all of 10 minutes before anxiety and/or panic attacks made us flee. Won’t be returning to anything there soon.

Second time there. I went to see Oz "display ". So pitiful. I expect a terrific exhibit. Instead a display of a few of his parents marionettes inside a place the size of a walk in closet. His gloried life with the muppets that could be expanded on and nothing!!! And a huge multi room exhibit of family photos of some well to do family that seemed to not agree on politics. What a mixed up use of space. Last visit was equally poor. I do not understand the complete waste of a building and awful exhibits with the Jewish population and many topics that could be historically explored. Best is the food at the deli next door. Truly awful museum. So very sad and disappointing. Sorry Frank Oz. You sure deserved more!! Much more. Especially when you listen to his video and what his message was. ". Imagine what the world would have lost if his parents hadn't escaped Germany... and "what we did loose because others didn't. The upstairs family photo exhibit could have been loss.....we wouldn't have kiss anything. Frank? So much! Do not waste you time or money going here. 🙁

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this museum, and I was thoroughly impressed by its exhibits, programming, and overall atmosphere. One of the standout features of the Contemporary Jewish Museum is its focus on contemporary art and culture. The museum's galleries showcase a wide variety of thought-provoking and engaging exhibitions that explore Jewish themes and perspectives through the lens of contemporary art.

A very interesting museum with some amazing exhibits. It is also conveniently located in downtown San Francisco. A wonderful place to spend a cold SF afternoon. A lot of great restaurants for lunch or early dinner.

There are many wonderful reasons to visit the Contemporary Jewish Museum. They have great exhibits including one of the history of Levy Strauss and how he developed his clothing business. The exhibit is pretty extensive and worth investing a few hours of your time. While the exhibits change, one great feature of the museum is that Wise and Sons Deli is open for lunch everyday. Their hours are limited but their menu has some wonderful Jewish items and they might have the best rye bread in San Francisco!

The emphasis of this museum is contemporary. If you are looking for a history or more traditional experience this will not be a fit. The museum is dominated by exhibit space so one visit may be quite unlike the next. The exhibits I visited were about the surprising influence of Jewish men in the rise of American body art after the Spanish-American war, traditions which are often still seen on men today. The other exhibit was a multi-media study of identify, body, and self. They were engaging and accessible but there was also depth for the more serious student of the arts. I would recommend it, particularly if there is an exhibit of interest. Thus four stars because as with all things, the quality of the exhibits will vary. I would rather give it a rating that fluctuates between 4 and 5 but this is not an option.

Interesting architecture, although it seemed as much to show off as to make a good exhibition space. The artists were excellent and the docent your was outstanding.

This museum is a lovely gem in the middle of San Francisco. I attended the Stanley Kubrick exhibit and was impressed by the depth of artifacts they'd gathered, a mix of photos and videos along with costumes and historical / personal information. The museum was well curated and it's always nice to stop by the Wise Sons within the museum. There's some beautiful natural light all throughout the building.
