Wow! What a wonderful find, a small intimate very French restaurant right here in San Francisco. This is a terrific dining experience! The food was amazing at every turn and the service was exceptional!

Best high end restaurant in San Francisco so far! Ingredients are fresh, wine is good, wait staff is kind + genuine (shout-out to Sebastian!). The rack of lamb was the best lamb we've ever had. Super tender! Fresh from Sonoma... Wow. It's what I'm going to get next time. Potatoes are crispy and potatoey. So good. Floating Island dessert.... Worth it. So light and refreshing but flavorful and unique.

L'Ardoise has long been a favourite and it did not disappoint this time. A couple of Kir Royal drinks to start and a pair of salads to share for the three of us, the special beet salad was lovely and the long time favourite goat cheese salad was warm and delicious. For dinner we had one salmon special and two longtime standout dishes, the coq au vin and my fabulous ribeye medium rare with the rich and wonderful pomme landaise potatoes. The two Pinot noir glasses worked well with the meal. We finished the evening with a creme brulee and a tarte tatin.

The food here is authentic and consistently fantastic; the ambience cozy, intimate and just what you'd expect a little bistro to feel like. This review is specifically for their service, which is beyond what you'd expect: we came here a while back, half way through our meal, I didn’t feel well, we had to pack up the remaining bit of our dinner, and take it to go. I left to wait outside for my husband (to escape the clanking sounds of the place), . . . it was a haze for me, but I remember our waiter, and also the rest of the staff being incredibly kind, sweet, gracious, caring and they all went way out of their way to make us feel that it was more than a business they were running. This was one of the best examples of hospitality I've seen.

Delicious French bistro with very good vibe and friendly staff right in Castro/Noe Valley. I've eaten many Escargot from all over the world, and it's right here that I found a new way to enjoy this dish.

Really wanted to eat here, but couldn’t get a reservation so we took a chance on getting a seat at the bar and got lucky with two seats. We had the duck confit, the salmon, and the ravioli, and the standout was the duck. Crispy skin, tender, flavorful meat. I only wish we had ordered two plates! The potatoes were also amazing. I was a little disappointed by the wine options—it took three tries to find one I liked, and even it wasn’t fantastic—but I guess it’s all personal preference. Would visit again for sure, but this time would only order duck and would order wine by the bottle so we’d have more options.

Very nice ambiance and cozy place, service was great, we had the Goat Cheese Salad, Black Angus Hanger Steak and Traditional Duck Leg Confit, and for dessert we shared Valrhona Chocolate Fondant, food was scrumptious. The place is small so It’s recommended to get a reservation.

This is by far my most favorite French restaurant in SF! When you come to this restaurant, make sure to order this Brussel sprout salad, it’s really tasty 😋. The other foods I orders were well cooked and L’Ardoise Bistro should be a must try restaurant if you ever crave French food.

Service. Stellar. Ambiance. 4. Nice outside with stringed lights. Inside fun but needs some upgrading. Paint. Bathroom. Is sub par. Food. Good. We enjoyed delightful appetizers. Butternut squash soup was silky and tasty. Trout salad was delicious. Coq au vin fell off the bone and was super tasty. Duck confit which is our favorite French entree was ok. Creme Brûlée was delish. Overall. Cute place. Neighborhood vibe. Fabulous service. Good food.

Intimate atmosphere, attentive staff, and AMAZING food. I had the duck confit and it was perfect. As a true French restaurant they have great options for after dinner coffee. My only regret was not sitting on the patio!

L'Ardoise Bistro in San Francisco offers an authentic French ambiance. The meticulous decor sets the tone for an exquisite dining experience. The menu offers French classics and creative twists. I loved the delicate prawn ravioli, but the standout dish for me was Black Angus Hanger Steak. The cheese Salad was okay but complemented the food really well. The dessert, flourless chocolate "cake," was divine. The service was quick, and truly the environment made it all worth it. I would really like to visit them again and try their other dishes. But make sure you reserve your seats well before going.

A little hidden away in a beautiful neighborhood. Wonderful atmosphere and very romantic, dimly lit and slow setting, which I loved. The waiter knew all about the food and was very quick to bring us our meals. The food was delicious - I got a medium-rare rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection, brussel sprouts salad, and strawberry island for dessert. Everything was incredible, and I would definitely try to get a reservation here again!

The food here was amazing as were the staff! My water glass never went half empty. I had the sea bass with mashed potatoes and a lobster bisque sauce, fantastic!! My boyfriend had the steak special for the day which he loved and the potatoes it came with were amazing! Also had the crème brûlée and chocolate cake which were both delicious! Great time there!

Great small and romantic restaurant serving outstanding French cuisine! We had two salads the Brussels sprouts and the beet. Both were good but the beet salad knocked it out of the park! The goat cheese with small cubes of beets was an incredible combination. We also had the Coq au vin and the rib steak. They were Both outstanding. I’ve recently eaten the rib eye at Harris and Joe’s of Westlake and this ribeye was another level above those! Fairly expensive but worth every penny, tender melt in your mouth with a wine and bacon sauce it was incredible. Finally my ribeye came with Pommes landaises potatoes but both of us couldn’t stop eating them, it was a cross between potato chips and a fried scallop potato. Brilliant!

The food is a 5/5 but I almost froze to death sitting inside at the front of the restaurant. Very cold for being inside, constant breeze. Ask to sit in the back. I think we would have been better off sitting outside with a heat lamp. We tried the escargot (recommend), the raviole, and the charcuterie, which was a tasty selection of pate. Our mains were the duck confit and Arctic char; the confit was perfectly cooked with delightfully crunchy skin. The crème brûlée was delish and the special strawberry tart was equally yummy with an amazing almond crust. Would go back on a warm day!

Excellent choice for a celebratory dinner in SF, in addition to being insanely good French cuisine. We had read the escargot was the best in the city, and that was correct! The sauce was so luxurious and soaked up the baguette nicely. The apple tartin was a stellar end to the evening, truly can’t deny anything we ordered. Service was attentive and kind. 5/5 all around!

2 x Brits - first night in San Francisco and we ate here. The food is absolutely delicious. Fabulous setting and the waiter was lovely. Had a great chat to a couple next to us which is all part of the nice atmosphere. Highly recommend

Fantastic duck leg confit, crispy skin, no meaty smell and melts in the mouth. Goat cheese salad and soup of the day were excellent. Didn’t get to try the wine selection but perfect classy but cozy date night

Such a cute spot! Nice ambiance, friendly staff, great wine list, and delicious food. We got the escargot, brussel sprout salad, filet mignon, and lamb and everything was wonderful. We will definitely be back!

Great French bistro! Every dish we ordered was excellent in terms of flavor, execution and presentation. I really appreciated the fact that the menu features multiple vegetarian/pescatarian dishes! The staff is not only charming but also took care of us in every imaginable way. We’ll gladly dine here again.

Had a nice dinner at L'Ardoise, the highlight for me was the duck. We also tried the ribeye steak which was good but nothing special. Finished the meal with a floating island and creme brulee (always a winner).
