The staff was actually very mean. The doctors (psychiatrists) there were rude, they didn’t even consider the fact that we are children, and we can’t handle brutal honesty as well as a stable adult. The staff did not care about us, they were never open to check in, and only there to enforce rules and get their money. Only some staff are nice, but otherwise they are very rude and racist. The staff did not care for us, did not go to your room to remind you of group time, and forced us to believe that we’re happier. I felt like I was being forced to be more positive, but whenever I was extremely depressed and went into my room to lay down, no one checked up on me. Only one asian lady did once, she was very nice. Other than all of that, this mental hospital was way better than any other mental hospitals i’ve been at.

I've had and very good review on McAuley before 5 months ago, but now that's changed after what my sister and mother been through. The director was INCREDIBLY rude to them the PE coach was very very controlling and to describe them was very childish over very simple question mother asked and was rudely pushed out of the office by the director. On top of that the lack of staff who seems to not care about the children's wellness and mental health is severe. There were some staff who cared and I thank them for their hard work but now that I see the true colors of the other staff members, they have lost the trust of me and my mother when they so-on-so 'cared' about my sister when I realize that they only cared about our money. My sisters friends are very sweet and they DO NOT deserve to be in this facility if they are going to be treated like this. So to the viewers reading this comment would you really want to have your children treated like this? (Update on the matter: 1/27/21) It's been almost a year since she been here, she more happier than she was while attending the "school". Although I must but honest she does miss the kids she made friends with, and if they see this just know she alright! But back to the update to be honest I still don't trust this facility, not until they can prove their change and rules because the way they treat the kids are disgusting

I was admitted to this hospital a year ago, and the staff treats you terribly. They do not supervise the patients and when they do individual therapy they don’t listen. I met some people while in this hospital who took their lives when they got out. After another person died who I met during my time here, I decided to write this review. If you are worried about a loved one, send them to any other hospital. Alta Bates in Berkeley is an amazing hospital and the staff was very pleasant there. But do not send your loved ones to this location.

ive been there 3 times. first time was in 2015, other 2 times were in 2017. the staff is nice, the rooms are nice, the food has gotten better. I didn't feel that much support from the staff, their main focus is getting you out of there asap. they don't care about helping you, they just want you out of there. i always leave there feeling worse. the second time i was there and i was being discharged later that day, i told the staff i was still suicidal and i had a plan to kill myself when i got back home, and i wrote that on my discharge papers. the whole staff told me that i couldn't say that and gave me new discharge papers and i had to write something different. the next morning i was in the ER.

The staff is amazing! The program is awesome!! There is structure and every second of every day is accounted for, there is reward systems and consequences and nothing gets missed! There is always someone watching. It seemed like there was 2 adults for every one child. Every need the child has will be addressed. The staff is professional and equally as important they are FUN and the kiddos are always their number one priority. It’s so amazing to see kids smiling even after the tragedies and pain that have brought them there. Thanks you so much for what you do! I wish there were more facilities that did this!!

This place was super nice, super comfortable. There was only like one fight when I was here, because a girl was fighting the staff, and she was hurting herself. The staff were amazing. I recently went in at about December 2021. I stayed for at least a week to 8 days and this was by far my favorite hospital. The food is pretty decent (i'd recommend the chicken strips) you get to bond with a bunch of people here. I still have my old packets of things i can do when i'm thinking abt hurting myself or I'm feeling down/hurt, or just not feeling the day. Truly, I think, without this hospital, I would've attempted again, and I would've succeeded. we had 1:1 psych services w/ the staff, but also with our doctor. I had outside time, where we looked over the SF skyline, and it made me feel better, at least. We had movie nights at the end of the week, and I stayed in here until New Years 2022, where I left on January 4th. I can't say much for other people, but I had a roommate for the last half of my stay, because the heating wasn't working in the other half of the building. They moved us all up a room and she ended up in mine, and I liked having a roommate. I wish I knew what happened to her, but patient confidentiality and everything. Overall, I loved this place. Sometimes I miss it, because there was a structure to it that I don't have at home, now. Thank you, to everyone here. You truly changed my life. I'm much better, and much healthier thanks to you. <3

It was an amazing place, nice staff, felt safe. I definitely met people I’ll never forget to who I related deeply. The food was okay. I liked movie nights and having to improve with my coping mechanisms to be able to take a shower according to their reward system😍. They had cameras everywhere to make sure everyone was safe😳I also loved the therapy dog they brought us.

Okay so here’s the thing- I was there april of 2022 and overall it was a good experience and the food was good. however there is/was an incredibly transphobic doctor (i don’t remember her name but started with a G) who told me I was missgendered because I look and sound like a girl. She’s apparently had numerous reports filed against her and hasn’t been filed, and is notorious enough that within one sentence my crisis councilor knew exactly who she was and said she’d file another complaint. while my experience before leaving was good, when it was time and i was expressing i didn’t think i’d stay safe and would probably attempt again, my concerns were practically ignored. tl;dr good food and mostly good experience but ignored my safety concerns when i was about to leave. (i would probably go back though)

This was a really nice facility it helped me learn a lot about self-love actually and I got a lot of really great friends from it. They allowed us to share contact information and we've been keeping in touch with each other and it's really helped my growth. Also I loved all of my nurses. Expecially Dan and Laura what a great support system.

There were bars on our windows and the food made me physically sick. I couldn't stand it, I had to LIE to get out it was so bad. And I don't regret that, the staff only made it worse.

Not exactly paradise, but as far as hospitals go my experience here was shockingly positive (not that I have anything to compare it to, fortunately...) and both the staff and other patients were perhaps some of the greatest people I've ever met. Seconding the other review mentioning Dan. There was a schedule we followed for the day, with occasional activities such as group therapy sessions, but for a solid portion of the day we were allowed to just hang out in the main room, although participation was never mandatory for anything, only encouraged: if you didn't feel like it, you could just chill in your room. Almost preferred my stay there to my daily life. Also, if you're gonna be staying here and have trouble sleeping: just ask for their tea. It's magic.
