One of the most amazing through-and-through vegan restaurant with insanely delicious gluten free options I have been to in this city. The food is outrageously amazing, fresh, made in house, served with kindness and care and fairly priced. The wait staff is incredibly attentive, kind, professional, courteous and respectful. The owner surprised me with a happy birthday song and a slice of cake on the house without us even telling them that it was my birthday. They just heard us talk and cared. The atmosphere is beautiful, cozy and clean. 100% recommend, this place is run with love, care and professionalism. Sorry I don’t have more photos, we just had such a great time and the food was so good we didn’t think of “instagramming”, we just enjoyed the moment so very much.

Great vegan food!! Good vibes !! Nice ambience and music !! We got chef’s plate, lasagna and roasted potatoes. The dessert was hazelnut mousse. All of them were so good. Kale chips was the best of all!! Must try for all vegan lovers. Cashew cream cheese is another great item, with roasted potatoes it tasted so good. They have lot of organic raw food options.

What a ( hidden?) gem! Vegan Bolivian food paired with live music and dance. There is valet parking right opposite to the restaurant. If you are the hunt of interesting vegan places to try, this should be on your list, you won’t regret.

The food was so so good. One of those places that pushes the limits of what you think is possible with vegan food. The music was also great! It's really amazing to see world class musicians perform so up close and then just casually talk to them in between songs. I forget the name of the violinist, but he was inspiring. I did not know the violin was such a versatile instrument until seeing him perform. Unfortunately we had to leave a bit early to make sure we didn't miss the last BART, but wish we could have stayed the whole time.

Delicious! I would come here every day if I lived closer. Food is a bit pricey but 100% worth it because its so healthy and filling. I was full very quickly because it was so satisfying. I'm super happy that they include raw vegan options too. Also everyone working there is very sweet.

First I will say the decor in this place is very cool. It’s a very intimate place with dim lighting. The staff was friendly, including the band. I liked how they put effort into engaging with the audience in between their performance. I think this restaurant fell a bit short with the food. The food did not taste good at all. I was pretty disappointed with the food and feel guilty writing this review because the staff was so nice. But even the lemonade tasted bitter. Not sure how you can go wrong with lemonade. But anyways this place was fun but I don’t think I will ever return here.

Delicious raw and cooked vegetarian and vegan food. Best kale chips I have ever had. Had both the raw sampler and the cooked sampler. Creative and flavorful! Would not miss!

Intimate and modest restaurant spot (former speakeasy dating back 100+ years) to herald in New Year's Eve for 2020. Obviously many locals and well heeled clientele have known about Pena Pacha Mama for years, as so many patrons greeted the owners on the way in or out. Vegetarian cuisine was delectable, satisfying, and flawlessly plated. Serving staff omnipresent yet invisible at the same time. Pena Pacha Mama owners / percussion musicians were attentive and gracious while obviously busy with a full capacity seating of 60-100 throughout the course of the evening. Latin string and percussion ensemble were captivating and simply AMAZING. Wishing I could relive this evening. Only blight on a wonderful evening, was parking literally across the street was initially advertised as $30, marked as $40 on a sign, and then which was raised to $50 on the spot. A mere block away, we parked at a structure on Valencia at Powell for $12 (4hours). Also, if your dining table happens to be stationed near the restaurant front door, then prepare for patrons leaving this entryway door open / ajar which creates drafts. My partner re-closed their front door at least 15 times over 4 hours. Bottom line: Will definitely return again without hesitation.

Such a great experience, not only for vegans but for anyone who loves live music and an underground vibe. The owners were so welcoming and made us feel at home. Highly recommended.

This place is an absolute gem. We stopped by on a food tour and had a great time. We met the owners and they even played a little music for us. I'm personally not a vegetarian or a vegan, but the food here is absolutely delicious. You'll almost forget you're not eating meat.

Great vegan South American food with very nice owners. Need more vegan spots like this! They are doing a great service by staying open for takeout during the pandemic.

Hidden Gem! We had a delicious vegan and gluten free Bolivian dinner here. We went on a weeknight so there was no live music, but had an attentive server and a great time.

This place is awesome. Highly recommend. Especially if you are looking for a very special, and intimate venue that celebrates live music, dance and good vegan food :-). The building is also historic (used to be a speakeasy) and the vibe is really, really good.

I visited with two of my friends, two of the three of us are vegan. We really wanted to like this place because the menu is plant-based and the restaurant is poc owned. We ordered two entrees to share. The portions and the quality of the food were not good enough to justify the price point. We ordered dessert because our food wasn’t filling, and we felt the same about the desserts as we did the entrees. We left the restaurant still feeling hungry, having spent nearly $100 on our bill. It seems like the appeal of the place is the atmosphere. We arrived when there were preparations for live music and the restaurant was experiencing a lull before the music was set to begin. Because we didn’t experience the live music, we were focused completely on the quality of the food and the service we received. Our waiter was not very attentive and we had dirty plates at our table for a considerable amount of time—I’m not sure if he was the only waiter working during the period we were there, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Overall, my friends and I left feeling unsatisfied with our dining experience, but we enjoyed the overall vibe of the restaurant.

Great restaurant serving great vegan food! Love the interior! It used to be a speakeasy during prohibition. Great live music is performed here as well. As far as the food the plantain chips with a lentil dip and vegan chorizo were the highlights for me. Will return for sure. Did I mention I'm not vegan🤷‍♂️ I highly recommend this authentic experience to anyone in the area. True love is put into every bite👍👍

I had high hopes but unfortunately I was left disappointed. This was one of the most expensive meals I have had for some time and there were barely any leftovers. The lasagne was tasteless and the texture of the vegan cheese was like plastic (I think it was Daiya which is terrible). The potatoes were good but a child's portion. The weekend platter was good but considering half was pasta, extremely over-priced, and most of the flavor came from the beyond sausage. The Yuca fries were the best of the main course, the plantain fries were underwhelming. The cheesecake and crepes were probably the most flavorful dishes. Overall I think all dishes need a lot of work and the portions need to be far more generous.

Incredible vegan dishes! I had the Pique Macho and the chocolate brownie with ice cream. Both delicious. I do wish the portions were a bit bigger but besides that this place is great.

This place is glorious! We were just looking for some good vegan food which Peña Pachamama has in spades!!! What we didn't expect is a wonderful Bolivian music show complete with dancers and wonderful stories. They do this every Saturday night. It was wonderful!!!

  • 3/5 Ricky M. 1 year ago on Google
My fiance and I were extremely excited to experience Carnaval Saturdays here but we were left with a bit of wondering. It sounds like not many of the dancers were still around and so we only had the ability to see one (who was great). None of it really resembled a Carnaval and we thought there was going to be a bit more activity from professional dancers and atmosphere. It was a privilege to be able to hear the music live, but it was also a bit scattered and brief. Hearing about the past history of the restaurant is what added to the cool factory. The food was okay and the service was not very good at all. We usually have a tough time finding clean vegan eateries and thought this was going to be one of those places, but it just ended up being alright. The sandwich I got seemed to have Beyond in it, which is not the best but it tasted good. Definitely seems like a one time experience, if you're able to catch it during an on night. We, unfortunately, seemed to have caught it on an off night. We will definitely remember the event space and its history rather than the event, itself.

Yummy delicious vegan and gluten free dishes. 😋 Don't let the outside of the place fool you - sometimes the best food and experience is in the tiny out of normal looking place. Step inside and enjoy. We did and will be back.

Such a nice and warm place 💛 Good food, a wonderful owner I got a chance to talk to, polite and kind waiters. If I’m ever to be in San Francisco again, I will definitely visit it again for the evening show! P.S. the white chocolate cheesecake was way too sweet, but maybe it’s ok for some people.

Fantastic food, plant based or otherwise, some of the best food we've ever had. We were only in town 3 nights and stumbled upon this restaurant on our first day. We ended up coming back for dinner every night. It's a different place with a very family feel, so when the owners get on stage to perform, you feel excited as if they're old friends. Wonderful food, good portions, fun people. Try the horchata, best we've ever had.

Great atmosphere and vibe. Loved the live music. Very friendly and accommodating staff. I will come back next time I am in SF and will try more options. This time I had a small plate of the spicy pasta and one empanada.

The most delicious raw dishes we’ve ever tasted. The raw ravioli was DIVINE. The raw tacos were phenomenal. Really enjoyed the brownie and cheesecake with raspberry sauce!!! Even the salad was amazing. We give thanks for your beautiful offerings and look forward to your nourishment the next time we visit San Francisco. The staff was very kind. These are photos of the raw Reuben and the raw tacos.

Great find when visiting San Francisco. Why go to a restaurant that only provides an option or two on the menu when you can go to a 100% Vegan restaurant? The food was great! We started with the recommended empanada and salad. Our entrees were Lasagna and Fideo. We finished with the Mousse. Every dish was great! The service was very good. It's on our list for the next visit.

Pretty quick service, considering I only used the to go service, but their area for this is really small and can get crowded, they have tables in front of the to go area and I would hate to be placed there if I was dining in. They have a cute boutique of supplements and sunscreen which I love.

  • 3/5 David R. 4 years ago on Google
Good service and interesting to chat with the owner. But the food was both quite limited and quite expensive. For lunch we a got a veggie burger (good) which came with potatoes, plus a salad (good but only medium sized), plus another veggie dish (too spicy and not very interesting). The cost including tip was $64. We ended up needing to get something to eat before dinner because there just wasn't enough to eat.

Small and cozy place. Food was good but not great. Its entirely plant based, vegan food that is one reason i went there to try it. Went on Saturday night, and that happens to be yine for dinner show. Flamenco dance with spanish singing and guitar music was very entertaining.
