In a city named after St Francis of Assisi, a visit to the National Shrine of St Francis makes a lot of sense. It is a beautiful Church, solemn and quiet. There are several statues and altars dedicated to different saints, with a plaquet saying something about wach saint. Thus, to walk around the church can lso be educational. It is close to famed San Francisco sites such as the City Lights Bookstore, Vesuvio Cafe and the Beat Museum, so the church is easy to find.

It was a great decision that this parish should be designated as the "National Shrine" to St. Francis. A beautiful church with a lot of local history but also emphasizing for whom this great city was named. The statues and the new Porziuncula chapel are great ways to help teach the faith and promote St. Francis' spirituality. I hope every Catholic who visits SF will see this church and many non-Catholics will learn about our faith through this beautiful sanctuary in the heart of a great city.

Beautiful Catholic Cathedral honoring St. Francis of Assisi. Great place to stop and say and prayer and lit and candle. Candles are $5.

Absolutely beautiful Catholic church with marble and a clean, uplifting brightness. Fr. Pedro ? is very good at homilies. Confessions are Mon-Sat, 11-12. With a 12:15pm mass.

National shrine of saint. Francis Assisi competes with other churches in SanFrancisco . Devine place in the heart of the city. Street side parking is challenging but cheap. Parking lot cost $15 to 20. Lot of restaurents near by. Small park is only one block away from the church. Best place to spend for 1 hour.

This is the major Shrine of St Francis of Assisi in the United States of America. Beautiful, simple church with daily mid-day Mass, plus other wonderful prayer events, throughout the year. On the lower level is a 2/3rds scale replica of the Porzinuncula in Assisi, Italy, which was actually repaired, etc by St Francis himself. Always a peaceful, wonderful chapel for prayer. On special days, times there are beautiful services, although the seating is very limited. There's a terrific website with much information. At the request of the Archbishop, the Capuchin Franciscans take beautiful care of this Holy Shrine.

Street parking, major bus line, paid parking garages. Renovated interior, helpful staff and clergy, confessions daily 11am to noon, gorgeous historical interior frescoes of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, exceptionally fine stained glass windows, clean restroom, and the Porziuncola chapel next door is an exact 7/8 scale replica if the one in Assisi, Italy. For Catholics, there are 4 opportunities per year to obtain Plenary Grace. See the website. Great preaching. Wear your face mask, be respectful, do not bring in food or drinks. It is a sacred worship space, not a museum. Great example of Gold Rush era parish turned national shrine.

Great church! Father John is excellent. Great place to pray and go to mass. One incident that upset me was this old white lady once screamed at me for getting too close to her during the coronavirus pandemic, but I think otherwise a great church with great parishioners. Many prayers answered and I definitely owe it to this church.

If the mass would include the recited Confiteor prayer would make a big difference. Lovely relic of a Shrine.

I loved this place. The hymns are led by a beautiful soprano voice. The altar is amazing and the relics make the experience all the more powerful, with the walls lined with several saints to venerate. Fr. Bobby, Brother Peter and Pedro are great and I felt at home.
