It would be more appropriate as a statue of an overflowing toilet, much like this part of the city.

It has been a tent site for homeless people since the pandemic began. Currently not accessible.

Nice location, wonderful statue, but the area surrounded it is not taken care of: too much trash around it in the vegetation area, statue is dirty with bird's manure, and many strange people are wondering around without any purpose.

It is currently a homeless camp, my city is turning into mega skid row.

Beautiful statue but for some reason this area always seems over populated with homeless. It's cold and there's not very much shelter so it doesn't seem like a good place to sleep but it's always crowded.

Up until just before the pandemic shutdown the Pioneer Monument was a central statue surrounded by 4 others on raised pedistles, sometime around that period, without warning, public comment or input from anyone, as far as I can tell, the statue on the North side of the monument was , like a covert delta force operation, removed in the middle of the night. It is still (as of 23 August 22 ) gone. Why you ask? Great question. My guess is that it was deemed politically incorrect as it was a scene with I believe 3 different characters depicting christians berating an American Indian. It had been there forever and all of a sudden it was removed because it actually depicted what likely happened. The truth may be painful but we must not deny our past otherwise we are doomed to repeat it.....that said I'd love to know who signed off on removing the statue(s) and publicly make them give an accounting of the decision process behind this very short sighted knee-jerk action.

There is major talk and few articles written about sf planning to remove this statue! Its a pretty big deal for the culture. Its worth stopping by and giving it a good stare down.
