Chaotic store, cheaper prices and many fish, but witnessed some very poor fish treatment/handling. Some bigger fish are in a tiny tank where they can barely move. Loud music, incense. Found a clown fish in a small plastic bag, waiting to die. Grasping for air, other fish in plastic bags on THE FLOOR. Custermers could easily step on them. Probably the owner was very stressed and not friendly at all.

They have very healthy fish and large selection of freshwater and saltwater. A lot of supplies and food. Everything you need in the hobby you can find here. They are great at their job and the staff is very nice and knowledge. The tanks are always clean and crystal clear. Very rare to see a dead fish in a tank. They have great prices, definitely the best in the San Francisco Bay Area. I like the fact that you can get a bucket and a net and catch the fish yourself. It adds to the experience and gives you the chance to really look at the fish before buying. Also, the best pricing for flowerhorns I’ve ever seen. Will definitely buy one soon. 10/10. Definitely recommend this place. It’s my go-to aquarium for sure.

I’ve been coming here for a year and I’m not coming back. The selection is great and the price is competitive but I’m tired of seeing fish belly up in a quarter of the tanks. The final straw for me was when I bought two corydoras last week. The cashier somehow lost one at checkout and I picked the other off the ground to return it to water. Saving a few bucks is great but please support aquarium stores that care about passion over profit. In SF I would recommend Ocean Aquarium, Lucky Ocean, Ocean Flower, and Aqua Forest for top shelf.

These people are super racist and it is disappointing as someone who recommended this place to friends and had been going for a few months! If you're a person of color I really would not encourage going here. They accused one of my friends of stealing with absolutely no substantial proof other than the fact that they stood near a tank and banned them when they had bought many items and fish already. Not to mention the fish I got from here died quickly, it's really not worth the time or energy there are much better places to go if you need supplies that won't accuse you of stealing because you're black and brown!

Really inhumane setup for the hermit crabs for sale. Literally a pint size plastic container with a bit of dirty water in the bottom. Truly was shocking. My guess from experience is that these crabs would be hard to bring back from these conditions after purchasing, might die soon but even if they didn't it's probably cut their lifespan by a few years just. For a store setup they need minimum shallow fresh and salt water dishes, a bit of a shell selection, and a food dish with some pellets and veggies, and a substrate of some kind in the cage. Can't say anything towards other fish as that's not my area. If you're a fish only shop that doesn't have the setup for land hermit crabs, just don't sell them instead of trying to make a quick buck like this. Whether you look at it as sacrificing the quality of your pruduct or the health of the animals it's bot a good look for this business.

-Prices cannot be beat -You MUST quarantine and Medicate any fish you get from here. -selection is pretty darn good -great selection of basically everything -it's crowded so it just be good -def dead fish in some of the tanks -the worker is super knowledgeable but they're busy. -I'm going back to this place.

The place can be more organized and lighting can be brighter, yes. However, none of those matter since this store has this amazing collection of both fresh water and salt water fish and shell fish with good quality. In my opinion, the best aquarium store in town and in the SF bat area.

The bad reviews are correct. I'm an experienced fish hobbyist and boy do these fish die fast. It's easy to think you're the exception and that they'll live long, no they will not. Within 2 days they were all dead and had worms hanging off them. The care is inhumane, they had bags full of fish ON THE GROUND. the service is the worst service you could get in SF as well. The workers and owners do not care about the fish at all. The tanks are insanley overcrowded and the tanks all share the same water. So the water is full of diseases and parasites, even if you find a seeminly healthy tank. I chose the healthiest fish after observing for 10 minutes, and they still died fast. Don't support this business or buy from here. Most of their stock are dying, already dead or diseased.

THEY HAVE SUCH A GOOD SELECTION!!! they have fish that span from tropical fish (yes including nemo and dory) to japanese chubby goldfish! So cute! I personally for the angelfish, goldfish and baby bettas which are thriving! They also have a area for any supplies you may need including fish tanks, air pumps, and fish food! They also have a plant area in the front of the store and they're also super nice! Easily my new favorite fish store! Bonus, the shop owner can speak cantonese if you need any translation and they are super knowledgeable about how to own the fish so you can ask them any questions! They're selection is not only diverse but it's a lot cheaper than chain pet stores. For example, I usually go to pet club which is a pet stores based in the bag area and I got angelfish there for $6.99 each but here they were 2/$5 !! That's half the cost of what I usually pay! I cant describe how amazing this store is, definitely check it out if you are looking to get new fish or are just a beginner :)

Great prices, friendly staff, and the only place that sells live brine shrimp in the sf afaik. I’m not a super advanced hobbyist so I can’t comment on the exotics they sell but they seem to have everything for anyone with an aquarium. It was a little odd to catch your own fish at first but I wound up loving this idea later.

Great deals on Sundays for coral. They also have EVERYTHING you need for tank maintenance saltwater and freshwater.

Love their selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, especially the exotic plecos like the mango and snowball plecos. Beautiful! However, 4-star rating instead of 5 because I found that the prices of their supplies and accessories are more expensive than what I see on Amazon or other aquarium supply stores

Its small space filled with many different fish to select from. Even more finds upstairs. Im a fan, a good spot for brine shrimp too! Also you can select a nice bouquet of flowers or a new plant!

Fantastic selection of plants at a reasonable price. Shop locally.💗 Great fish set up, supplies, and fish. Employees were very friendly and helpful. I’ve shopped here for years and have had a very positive experience. 🙂

When I first found Sixth Avenue aquarium at some mixed reviews, but like any other location there will always be mixed reviews so I decided to check it out for myself. The staff were friendly and informative, they have a huge selection of freshwater saltwater fish and also plants. What I liked about this location was that I was able to actually grab my own fish then I wanted out of the tank which is something that I have never been able to do in any location that I have been to in the past.

Got all of them from 6th ave. Good selection of fish and you can also find some rare fish that you don't usually see at most of the regular pet shop. You can also call them for fish availability. Friendly staff, overall it's a good place and would come back here again .

New to fishkeeping, made the mistake of patronizing this store. Poor advice from multiple fronts (too small a tank for desired species, wrong approach to introduce fish to the new tank, insufficient waiting time to cycle...). All our fish died and we read a bunch of literature and realized we were given poor advice. We bought a new, much larger tank, cycled for a month, and tried again with no problems.

My go to fish store. I have bought two electric blue acaras, 10 Violet corydoras (which can be hard to find), 6 mollies, plants and supplies from them, have not had issues with any of the fish health. I did get a duckweed infestation from the plants though :/ that can happen easily unfortunately. Customer service can be hit or miss, depending on how busy they are, and you need to ask for help if you need it, which I have no issue with. The spaces for the fish are less than ideal, but I'm also realistic about the fact it's a store and these are not long term homes. Overall, I recommend.

This is a hands-on fish shop. You will likely find yourself catching your own fish out of tanks that are not at the best water quality. Not all of the fish here are healthy, and will certainly need a lengthy quarantine. While the fish/livestock is not for the beginner aquarist, the supplies on hand are extensive including fish food.

Our favorite aquarium store! We bought guppies (m/f variety & dumbo ones), cherry shrimps, ghost shrimps, mystery snail, betta & live plants. They are all healthy & doing well - except for our poor Betta that died cause we forgot to find someone to take care of him when we were away for weeks. Coming here always make me want to have a salt water aquarium! I feel that they are more knowledgeable than our nearby PetSmart store. Planning on buying our next tree here & hoping they get a Passionfruit vine too come summer.

This will be our “go/ to” store in SF from now on.... great selection and the fish are in much better health than at “big box” retailers. Thank you to Phil, who paused his dinner at the cash register to help me and my child pick out some additions to her starter 5 gallon tank. Ask for help if you need it, as it is largely “self-serve” and they will be most helpful. Highly recommended.

very nice aquarium with a small plant shop at the entrance! been coming here for years with my dad and they have a nice selection of fish and equipment. also has good prices on fish conpared to other aquarium fish shops around the bay.

This shop has a large inventory and variety of live fish, aquariums and supplies. Prices are overall very competitive. Staff are friendly. I was surprised and disappointed to be told that, while they accept credit cards, they charge customers a fee for the privilege of paying with anything but cash. Merchants that add on fees and penalties in this manner, strip away, in my opinion, the goodwill they have earned in other areas of their operation with respect their customers.

🫤 As others have made comment, customer service needs to be worked on. There's a good selection of brands, livestock, and plants. But quite frankly, I used to come here by default since they're the only aquascape-focused store in San Francisco near me. Most reviews are of the products themselves. The...

👍👍 This place was nice. It's not too big. But the people opened a door to us even 10 min before closing. And it took me and my BF longer than 10 min to figure out the fish we wanted. The workers also showed us amazing HUGE collections of BETA fish they have. Together with some rare types of KOI BETA t...
