Really good Chinese breakfast spot. The Fan Tuan here is very filling and tasty, plus they have excellent Xiao Long Bao. You Tiao is gigantic and not too oily. It’s a clean restaurant with self-serve sauces, and has plenty of space, but fills up fast with families on the weekend. They also have a very classic style of milk tea and you can get soy milk cold in a cup, or hot in a bowl (for dipping the absolutely enormous You Tiao).

Can't go to Taiwan to eat the comforting breakfast food and you're craving for them right now? Come to Yimei. You will get your carving fixed fast. The newly opened San Gabriel branch on Las Tunas is a much needed Taiwanese breakfast restaurant in the area. Right now, there is only Sihai Taiwanese restaurant next door which is a very small with limited menu Taiwanese restaurant. The new Yimei brings in a clean and roomy environment for dinners. The menu is also extensive. I can get all my childhood favorite Taiwanese food here. We finally got a chance to stop by for breakfast today. We ordered quite a few items. Today's special is onion pancake. This item didn't quite meet my expectation as the pancakes were a bit dried. But the shaobing or sesame flatbread with egg was excellent, it tasted like the ones I had in Taiwan. The flatbread was toasted to crunchy and flaky with soft omelet inside. Another yummy food we ordered to glutton ourselves was the daikon cake with egg. This one was soft and tasty. The combination of egg, daikon, rice flours, and other Chinese meats and spices were made into perfect harmony to create a delectable savory breakfast. When you having a Taiwanese breakfast, you can not go without a bowl or a cup of sweet hot soy milk. The soy milk here is one of the best. The texture is smooth and silky with no burning taste. You can add sugar to the soy milk to suit your own taste. The service was good. The older auntie was very friendly and helpful. This restaurant requires the customers to order first and then find a table to sit down. The servers will bring the food to your table when they are ready. The prices are very reasonable. Even with our excessive ordering, we only paid less than $30. We were so full. Give it a try if you're craving for Taiwanese breakfast or if you want to venture to find out what the Taiwanese food fuzz is all about. But I have to warn you, you'll be hooked for life.

Yi Mei in Arcadia is usually where I go to satisfy my Taiwanese food cravings. This location is much closer and it’s in the same plaza as Gamjatop! The inside is spacious and clean but it looks like it was meant to be a kbbq joint. I ordered a purple rice roll with sour pickles and green onion egg with a side of Taiwanese sausage and peanut milk. I’ve had the regular rice roll here before and I prefer that over the purple rice variant, but it’s nice that there’s a healthier option. You can order up front or you can scan the QR code at your table. Currently, there is a 2% cash discount but I chose to pay with my Costco card because of the 3% cash back for restaurants 😎

The food looked great, but it really was so-so. The onion pancake was a bit hard, the soy milk was a bit too sweet (only one sweetness), the oyster pancake was not the best, and the rice ball was just OK. Definitely won't be coming back if places like Yong He exists.

The menu was promising in terms of selection, but most of the items didn't really fill the itch for Taiwanese breakfast. We ordered soy milk, turnip cake, a rice roll, egg pancake, and a pork belly rice dish. The rice roll was the one item that was the most satisfying; I had the Chinese donut extra crispy and added a fried egg, the way I like it when I'm in Taiwan; the flavors and texture was there, but it could've used more pork floss and picked vegetables. The turnip pancake was also pretty good, but it looked like it was fried in more oil than you'd usually get off the top of a griddle. The soymilk tasted rather watered down, and the pork belly rice dish was okay; it had a spicy cucumber salad and stir-fried cabbage on the side, which were fine, but the pork belly itself was lacking in flavor.

I had to try the newest Yi-mei restaurant in San Gabriel. I often drive on Main Street/Las Tunas but I didnt really notice it till today. 14 of us met there for a family/friends reunion. They had long tables that could accommodate us. It was perfect. I took photos of the outside and inside while waiting for my group but we got so busy with our reunion that i forgot to take pictures of the food. All I say is that the food, presentation and taste, is exactly like the other Yi-mei locations: CONSISTENTLY yummy. The Yi-mei management team understands the importance of food quality and consistency throughout their locations. Sorry, I will take pics of the food next time.

I liked this new SG location that is so new and clean, the interior is also bright and roomy. Service was fast. Order at the counter then find a seat, sit back, and enjoy. But don't be fooled by the menu on the wall, they also sell pastries, dumplings, rice & noodle dishes, and frozen goods. Everything we had that day tasted fresh, I'm glad they are not like other similar restaurants nearby that always sell old and stale leftover food. Yimei is def a good Taiwanese breakfast addition to SG. The only con would be the authenticity, I feel like some items were not 100% authentic Taiwanese flavors, but overall we enjoyed the food. It is certainly better than Four Sea and Yung Ho cafe IMO.

Must order: Egg Omelette(very soft and juicy) Daikon Cake with extra egg ( crispy outside and soft inside) Soy + Peanut Milk(perfect sugar level with rich peanut flavor) Not recommend: Pork Belly Rice (it’s too oil and the meat are dry) Staffs are friendly. The environment is bright and looks clean. However, there are some small flies while we were eating.
