Parking isn't fantastic but the service and food more than make up for it. Delicious pizza and perfectly cooked fries were our choice for this visit. Staff is hustling around between taking orders, servicing tables, and keeping the place sanitized and sparkling. We will be back!

Parking: street parking. We went for dinner at 7PM so there were plenty of street parking. Efficient service: one orders at the counter and then find a table. There is a separate line for phone orders pick up. Drinks: a good selection of beer and non-alcoholic drinks. Food: excellent! Hummus was fresh and tasty. Pita bread was warm and soft. Beef and kofta kabob were nicely seasoned and delicious! There was also a nice condiments bar with pickle raddish and different kinds of spicy sauces. It looks like one of college students’ favorite restaurants. High recommended!

Loved this place when I lived in SLO so decided to make a visit again! Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - we went around 11 AM and the food was surprisingly dry compared to what we had previously. Gyro pizza was a little over baked so the crust was really dry but the sun-dried tomatoes gave a nice acidity so it was great in flavors. Lamb shawarma was a bit dry as well but the sides were great as usual. We always get sauces on the side as well. Chipotle for me and byatta for the SO Ambience: N/A - got the food to go and we eat at the second floor in the shopping plaza by Sephora Service: 5/5 - polite and quick, gave us a reasonable and accurate estimate for the wait Value for price: 4/5 - price has gone up a bit but still worth it

Hands down the food was Amazing! My family and I really really enjoyed it. Great and fast service. Love the set up of the restaurant and most of all it’s a very Clean place. Friendly staff. Prices are very reasonable. All in all if you haven’t tried this restaurant you’re missing out in delicious authentic food.

I went there in afternoon and it wasn’t crowded but still really liked the vibe. You go inside order your food and find a spot to see. I ordered lamb shawarma with rice and salad! Came with warm pita bread and everything was good. Definitely recommend this place!

I was going to give Petra five stars because I thought the place was great and the food was inexpensive and very good, but they lost the order for the pizza my wife ordered and only when we went up to ask about the delay, we found they lost everything. It’s a good thing I had asked for a receipt or the whole situation could have been awkward. They finally made the pizza quickly but since I was done so early, I took the time to take extra photos and make a second trip to the car to feed the meter. There is outdoor seating, but we sat inside the restaurant to eat and noticed there is a special where you can purchase a six pack with six different types of beer, of your choice. I don’t know anyone who would be so barbaric but perhaps it suits some weird person who can’t make up their minds about anything. When in SLO, give this place a try. Just remember to grab a receipt when ordering. It might save you later.

It may have just been the hunger but the small custom pizza I got almost made me cry. Bitting into the layers of sweet dough, garlicky pesto, and cheese was heavenly. The dough was sweet, soft, AND crunchy! Special s/o to the PETRA team on 07/17. Y'all were lovely and your food was/is AMAZING!

Too bad that they don't allow 4.5 stars in the rating system. The menu selections looked great, I shared a Gyros-Pizza 😋 Parking would be better if it didn't cost me nearly $5 in quarters for an hour at the parking meters - Really. The servers were quite friendly and food arrived hot & quickly. But the patio seriously needs a healthy or generous hosing and/or scrubbing down as it is a dinning space, under a tattered canopy. I would return for a 2nd meal.

When I lived in SLO back in 2016 this was one of my favorite places to go eat. I went back over thanksgiving week 2023, still exceeds expectations. Such good food and the staff is so helpful and kind. I brought my sister-in-laws here and all our kids, ranging from 2 months-11 years old, and I feel like everyone walked away happy with the experience and food. I wouldn’t say Petra’s is completely little kid friendly, no changing table and i didn’t see high chairs/boosters, but I feel comfortable bringing my kids here. I didn’t feel out of place at all. Love this place!

Ordered here for the first time. A coworker recommended this place. I was really looking forward to some good quality cooked meat dish. But I was very disappointed. I got the combo kabob beef and chicken. Both meats were so dry and hard- some parts of it were inedible. I like the veggies, rice, taziki, and hummus. The pita is not as soft but okay. My coworker's tri-tip meat was the same- dry and overcooked. I'm willing to give their pizza a chance next time. Both meals were super expensive bc of taxes, delivery fee, driver tip and they use doordash.

Delicious. I enjoyed the small gyros pizza and added jalapeños. Great vibes on the covered parking lot “patio” (a holdover from COVID’s outdoor-only restrictions). The dolmas side order was tasty, though unexceptional. The self-serve sauces bar is a nice touch. The crushed pepperoncine is particularly good.

It’s all good. Huge pita sandwiches. Wonderful homemade sauces. The pita bread is light and fresh. The Persian ice cream sandwiches were big an fun, recommended the Saffron and Rose Water one!

I miss Jafa Cafe! The hummus had a little flavor. Part of the bread was hard. The tikki sauce tasted funny, as in rancid. I got garlic fries the fries were mediocre and the garlic was also mediocre. I didn't try the other dishes that other members of my party ordered. I was told the cauliflower was good.

This is one of San Luis Obispo's most beloved restaurants. From Pizza to Gyros and salads, Petra has an expansive menu. The food quality is high, and it's easy to customize nearly any dish to your specific tastes. The chicken, beef, and gyro sandwiches are a favorite, and easy to get to go for a hike or a picnic. When the chicken is fresh, the chicken shwarma is quite delicious (Unfortunately, from time to time, the chicken is overcooked), but the gyro is always a sure bet. There are 8-10 on-tap beer options, and several wines by the glass, as well as a small bottle selection. There is plentiful and casual seating inside the restaurant with TVs showing the latest sports games. Since the pandemic, there is now also a large tent outside with tables and chairs. There can be a longish line at lunch and dinner on the weekends, but it moves quickly. The only minor complaint is that ordering for take out can be hit or miss; the take-out dishes made incorrectly or missing items about 1/4 visits, so be sure to check your order before you leave if taking out your order.

My wife and I only stayed in SLO for two nights, but we ate here twice! The chicken and garlic pizza definitely exceeded our expectations. Aside from the great food, the experience here is so streamlined. You can order from the kiosk, the food comes out quickly, and any extra things you need (utensils, cups, take-out containers) are just laid out to take.

I had the feta cheese pizza. It was good, but not fantastic. I’d still eat it again though! I really enjoyed their outdoor seating, and they have plenty of it.

I came to this place on a Friday evening looking for something hearty and homie. I've been on the road for about a week, and just wanted a family kind of meal. Petra hit the spot. There was a line when I arrived, and it was hard to find parking. That's definitely the downside of this location It is street parking pretty much and that can be hit and miss. They have a kiosk for self-ordering but it didn't have all the choices that the menu has on the board. So halfway through my order I had to discontinue and get back in line. That was quite discouraging. I jumped back in line did my order, and found a seat. There is nothing particularly incredible about the decor of the restaurant, but had a nice outside dining deck. Food came quickly, and I was quite surprised by the volume. They also added a very nice fresh pita bread to the mix. That was a good touch. First bite, good but not incredible. Second bite was a piece of pita and a dip in the hummus. The hummus was a little bland I'd say, but I love all kinds of hummus so I kept eating. Third bite was salad and meat. I did the split tray where I had partial meat and partial grilled vegetables. The grilled vegetables are absolutely dynamite. The meat was good. The hummus remained underwhelming. I've definitely had better hummus. In fact I would call a trader Joe's hummus much better. At any rate I kept diving in and finished the whole plate. Really nothing to complain about except maybe the hummus and pita. The pita was definitely fresh, but also was a little bit bland. Maybe that's just something I'm not used to. Overall the experience was positive. It's a great little spot in downtown San Luis Obispo. So I always ask myself would I go back? The answer is yes. Would I try something else. The answer is also yes. They have a pretty hearty menu so I would like to try some other items. I would love them to spruce up the hummus somehow. But again, overall it was a great meal. Thanks for being kind hostesses. I'll try to come back.

Was expecting this to be more like a sit down restaurant as opposed to something more like counter service, but that's on me for not looking at the pictures before going! The food was alright, but honestly a little disappointing after having eaten much better meals in SLO during the week. Apparently you can get plates with half rice / half salad, which I wish I'd known before ordering! The pita that came with the plates were super light and fluffy, and definitely made the meal much better Parking was somewhat of a nightmare; we ended up parking at a meter across the street - Gyro Plate with Rice (3.5/5): The gyro was a little tough, but the meat was super flavorful. The rice fell a little flat of my expectations though - Tri Tip Shawarma Plate with Salad (3.5/5): The meat didn't seem super well seasoned, but it felt like it was cooked at a better temperature than the gyro - Gyro Pizza (3/5): Tasted kind of like it could've come from a Trader Joe's. It was good, but not sure if it was worth the price

The food here was amazing. My bf and I shared a plate and two sides and it was plenty of food. Best pita bread ever. And the cauliflower was to die for. Liked the casual vibe and outdoor seating. Lots of drink options too. Staff was friendly and nice.

Solid, Mediterranean food in a no fuss atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating options. The lamb and chicken plates were tasty, had good portion sizes for the price, and all the sauce and side options (salad or fries, fresh pita, hummus, tzaziki, garlic sauce). For as quickly as we got our food it must have already been cooked and just finished off or heated up before serving. We didn't try the pizza, but noticed they had regular as well as gluten free crust options and the toppings looked intriguing. There were so many options for drinks it took us 5 minutes just to decide. If I am being nit picky, some of the meat was slightly overcooked and the charred pieces were dry, but that was maybe only 10% of the meat and by the time I got to those pieces I was already full. The side salad had lettuce that was a bit old, but otherwise good. Unfortunateltly, the restrooms were dirty, smelled, and had a broken fan. Food: 4.5/5 Drink selection: 4.5/5 Indoor eating: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Restrooms: 2/5
