Employees were so patient with my stupid questions. Their mocha of the day was delicious. It was the raspberry upside down mocha. MUST GET!! Also their chicken sandwich was so good I didn’t even get the chance to take a picture. Totally a nice place to go! They even have a study room you can reserve!

The staff here is consistently so mean?? I order drinks the way they are on the menu, nothing complicated & I tip. Last time they got annoyed at me for buying a drip coffee..? This time it was because when I gave my full order I didn't specify "latte" when I ordered a mocha -opposed to what?? It's easier for someone to learn how to make drinks than it is to learn being personable, but this place doesn't seem to be hiring folks with experience in either.

Kenny was great and suggested the East L.A. sandwich, which was excellent. I expressed my knee was injured, so he brought my food to me. I didn't catch the name of the young lady who did my Mocha Chino frapp, but she made it so good. I wish the large cup was bigger 🥤 for the price. Sat it a retro leather chair as I ate. The sandwich was so good that I brought the other half to my husband 😋

I was disappointed with the portioning being dolled by the kitchen to say the least. But the tall guy who checked us out demonstrated skill in customer service and I left satisfied. The pancakes are a good value especially the Saturday special.

Amazing coffee and atmosphere! The staff are very friendly and seem to really enjoy working here. The breakfast is also really good. I got "The Classic" breakfast sandwich and it was amazing.

This place is very clean and has clean bathrooms. The customer service was good the food on the other hand was not as good. The corn tortillas were hard as a rock and the scramble eggs I received were scraped of the pan. I will definitely give them a second try since they did have good customer service.

Honestly, I’m not the kind of person who goes to the same coffee shop several times over but something about this place brings me back. The energy is always exactly what I want. I have done work here, met with friends, even sat down and read a relaxing book. No matter what, I always feel comfortable. The staff is great and you can truly tell they have a respect for coffee. I will definitely continue returning and bringing as many people to the peaceful oasis in this crazy town.

    Nice baristas and good coffee

I remember my first time here writing it off as just another coffee spot, but time after time I realize that everytime I come back things just feel a little bit better and like a small slice out of a friends kitchen with the nice homey feel of the whole place, coffee is always good and fairly priced, never have an issue with anything. I'll be here again and again.

They charge extra for plant milk which I find quite ridiculous. Plant milk & cows milk should cost the same in coffee especially if I'm paying $5 for it. They should add more vegan options. Especially since its advertised predominantly in the window. Like a vegan sandwich and a vegan breakfast hash or tofu scramble.

Listen, I am not the type to usually write reviews, but this location has the best coffee in san marcos! The staff is amazing and always put the customers needs first. Big shoutout to the Jo’s on always making my experiences here at mochas and javas the absolute best! 10/10 would recommend to a friend (:

I'm a San Marcos chamber member and I decided to attend one of their events, which was at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore shop in San Marcos. I met the manager and she was so welcoming and offered me to take part of their free coffee, **mochas and Java's sponsored the desserts. The scones were scones were out of this world!**

Misleading menu for the pancakes. They are a wheat pancake which isn't stated on the menu but have pictures all over the counter of flour pancakes. The carnivore is delicious though. The handheld menu that customers see does not specify wheat

I really like this place. But owners-- please consider reducing the temperature if possible-- I find often myself sweating in this cafe. Sometimes I jump in the river before coming here, just so the water evaporation will keep me cool while I work.

Staff are kind and attentive. The kitchen struggles to keep up with a full dining room. Sometimes takes 30+ mins to prep an order. They could reduce food menu offerings to streamline, or reorganize kitchen. Drink orders typically take less than 10mins. Drinks always consistent. Food tastes great however there are inconsistencies with sandwich ingredients/prep - once they subbed pesto for mayo on the Greek sandwich for example. Dining area is generally clean, however leather lounge chairs and couches are dingy looking. Floor needs attention - venue could use a refurbish. Location is better suited for pedestrian traffic, parking sparse. I recommend this place if you want good coffee, but don't expect food in under 30mins during peak traffic.

Had the last day of the month pancake specials, was a 5 star. The staff and servers were super nice and the couches to sit and eat we're a plus. My only compliant is that there are NO nutrition facts. They could not tell me how much sugar or calories were in the smoothies. The smooth is NOT healthy, it's made with syrup and concentrate. Step it up y'all, give healthy options and show the food facts!

i called ahead today to ask if my dog was allowed to come in with me just while i ordered, i was told over the phone that it was fine to bring her in. when i arrived, i went up to order and was immediately told that my dog was not allowed to be there since their owner was in. (i would’ve had no issue not bringing her in had i been told it wasn’t allowed). the cashier also berated me for grabbing my own tacos (which i’ve done since i started going there with no issue). the cashier then rang in my order wrong and when i notified the barista making my coffee (who i believe was the owner), he gave me attitude about it being wrong. i usually get really good service here so i’m not sure if it was an off day or if the owner being there made the staff nervous but neither of those things are my issue and i shouldn’t have walked out feeling embarrassed for everything i did “wrong” while trying to order my breakfast.

They have great gluten free options but unfortunately they are NEVER in stock. I’ve come here about 10 different times and they’ve only had the bread in stock ONCE. Sometimes they’re sold out as early as 10am. I’m sorry but for a place that literally has “gluten free options” printed across the walls of the building, they SERIOUSLY need to hire an inventory person competent enough to make enough gluten free muffins and bread to feed their customers. I’ve worked inventory in the food industry before and this type of poor management is just negligent. Please consider your gluten free clients enough to actually have the things you say you offer. If you don’t have it, there is literally nothing else I can eat other than a salad and I’m so tired of restaurants thinking just salads are enough options for gluten free people. Do better.

First visit was awesome. Weather was nice so we sat outside. Place is a lot larger than we expected! Great location, atmosphere is warm and inviting. Suitable for homework, coffee date, or lunch to catch up with friends. Sugar free flavors available! Friendly staff was kind and quick to answer any questions. We will be regulars soon!

An amazing coffee shop I was a long term regular at. I moved away from San Marcos, but I stop there and get a frozen hot chocolate or one of their amazing seasonal drinks every time I visit. Good prices, great vibes, and its a local buisness.🙂 Their pancake day was the highlight of my month.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a real cappuccino anymore; The one delivered to me was a 10 ounce latte with foam on top. The scone I ordered was dry and crumbly and the sandwich was a bit bland. Not a bad place by any stretch but I’m sure there are better in the area. Update 9/7/23: The business replied and I will give it another shot next I am down that way. I so appreciate businesses that try -

Decent food, good drinks, very nice staff. Non-existent internet. Would be great to have a place to get food and drink while getting some work done, but no Internet means no I can't do it. (This is for the 700 LBJ location)

With an overzealous towing company, I will never spend my dollars at this coffee shop again. Or any restaurant within this shop center. Three dollar coffee turned into $120 towing fee

I wish I could rate their hambino sandwich, but I never received it via doordash. I would add a picture, but it would just be a picture of the air. ALSO, I ordered an iced CHAI latte, and received an iced espresso latte. TOTALLY different items with TOTALLY different ingredients.

My enjoyment and appreciation of this particular coffee shop is vast and deep. Featuring $2 "On your Honor" coffee and a wealth of comfy reading nooks, it is a respite for many a TxSt student. Also a reliable place to yell- "I need help with my theory homework!" Or "When is the call time for the Choral Collage?" And probably get an answer. Also their pancakes are so good. 6/5 stars if I could. Would adopt this coffee shop if that was a thing.

Waited around 27 minutes for them to make me 3 pancakes, in the end had to leave with out my food. The coffee was ready in 2 minutes and was delicious, but their food quite literally wasted my time and money. 1/10 save yourself money.

This coffee shop is conveniently located across the street from Texas State. However, if you are a college student, you need to exercise extreme caution when parking in their parking lot because you might get towed. Apparently they have a towing company sit in the lot and watch to make sure people get out of their cars and go immediately into one of the businesses . If you leave the lot at all after parking, even if you come back in 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee, then your car has likely already been towed like ours was. That makes for a very expensive cup of coffee. That's the last cup of coffee I'll be buying here, and I won't be patronizing any of the other businesses in this shopping center either.

I like Mochas and Javas. I'm a student so it's gotta be one of the first places any new student goes that's right off campus. There aren't that many places adjacent to campus like that. Traffic causes wear, but, their indie vibe and nice well-trained staff make it a pleasure to come back to. Menu is nice with some good food but I tend to just go for Mochas and Javas.

My go-to spot for all day breakfast. Pancakes with walnuts, jam, and of course butter are my favorite but doesn't even scratch the surface of their menu. Don't forget to try the Java bacon (espresso rubbed bacon). Yes I said that right. It's delicious. Do yourself a favor and grab a table. It's as chill as it gets with always friendly service. Cheers mates.

Sooooo a major downside is that they recently started an online ordering option, which is awesome, but it’s new and the options for modifications aren’t accurate for everything on the menu (can’t add avocado, you can only add guacamole for example, and can’t get extra pesto you can only “add” pesto) and it doesn’t provide you the option to leave a note or modify anything. This would be no issue if they would at least answer the phones... seems like since they started online ordering they turned the phones off and I can never call to make modifications or place my to go order over the phone. So it looks like I’m stuck with a half-done ordering system if I don’t want to dine in-person :-(

So while this place is actually pretty good in terms of gluten-free options and food... one HUGE downside is they reallllly lack consistency in their meals. One time I ordered a stuffed avocado salad. The avocados were a decent size and the meal filled me up. The next time I went to order the same thing and the avocados were about half the size with probably 2-3 bites of chicken salad on each avocado. Same price, different portions. It happens so frequently I stopped going. I finally gave them a shot again last week, I ordered the garden breakfast plate with an extra egg and extra hash browns (because sometimes they skimp on the hash browns). The meal size was perfect, not too big but certainly enough to fill me up. Today I ordered the exact same thing and the entire to-go box was stuffed full (mostly hash browns). There was hardly any egg and it literally tasted like straight potatoes. So yeah, good food, but they clearly don't follow any measurements or have any criteria about making food or modifications. Another $13 wasted at Mochas and Javas. Won't be ordering there again. UPDATE: ordered there again. This time I got the garden breakfast plate and it came with no spinach. Sometimes it comes with spinach mushrooms and black beans, sometimes it just comes with black beans.. this time it had no spinach. Sooooo I guess I’m learning that no matter what I order here, it’s ultimately up to however the chef is feeling as to whether or not I get what’s listed on the menu.

Dark Chocolate Mocha with added expresso tasted yummy. Although the person didn’t ask if I wanted the whipped cream or not, which took off 2 stars from my ratings. Brownie was super delicious. Must have! Ambience was pretty chilled out for hanging out with friends or can even work in working space.
