Fed up with Los Christianos, Adeje and non stop Tourism? Looking for somewhere with a more authentic atmosphere, more local Spanish people around you, and more activities? Then head down the coast to El Medano for the real deal. A stunning 1km long sandy beach with the more sheltered corner near the town dedicated to bathing and the more exposed windy end a favourite for kite and wind surfers, which even if you don't take part make an exciting spectacle just to sit and watch. Fancy some hill walking? Then try the two volcanic hills at the windy end of the beach or the 1km crater hill of the volcano to the East of the town. Saturday mornings visit the craft market in the town Square next to the beach. Round off your day with dinner at the harbour restaurant at sunset. Looking forward to visiting El Medano again!

Great beach with plenty of coves for sunbathing or swimming. Depending on the wind at the far end, there are plenty of water sports. Restaurants and shops stretch the whole of the beach. The feel is very Spanish and not one of the tourists beaches that are down the coast. I have to mention my partner who liked looking at the lifeguards!

A beach where you can practice windsurfing, kiteboarding, surfing and paddle boarding. The wind is good for windsurfing and the wave for surfing. water sports lovers. Here you can find material rental centers but also good quality instructors.I recommend water sports lovers.

Beautiful beach, great for surfing, kite surfing, foil surfing and other water sports. There is a wooden promenade in the shopping area and a few small shops and coffee bars. Plenty of parking, including space for camper vans near the beach. Great spot to visit, long stretch of beach (some parts sand and some parts rocky) There are free toilets in the town square/ centre. Not far from. The airport (about 15 mins, €18 in a taxi due to the additional airport taxi charges)

Pretty small beach, we catch a very windy day and all the sand was in my hair when we left the beach and I personally don't like that at all, the water is clear and it's perfect for small children because it's not deep. Far away you can see all the people that are doing kitesurfing on the sea and they are pretty amazing to watch.

Beautiful and picturesque village, full of surfers, kitesurf and windsurf; good restaurants and bars on the beach front.

Excellent beach, not the one where kitesurf is taking place because is too windy unless you are a huge fan of this sport. But if you go to the town you can spot a beautiful and peacefully beach just between two buildings.

Nice little walk along the beach early evening. Watched a water aerobics class taking place in the sea and the wind surfers...then off to the bar for a drink.

Beautiful beach with black lava sand. Surfing is here very popular. You can find several shops with surfing stuff. Also shops to rent material and surfing classes are here to find. Don't forget to climb the Montaňa Roja and to discover the beaches around this area.

This beach deserves a full 5 stars. El Médano has gone to great lengths to make it beautiful and functional. The wooden walkway carved into the natural volcanic stone goes all the way around the beach. The restaurants above are surprising good and affordable. The views are breathtaking.

The beach is volcanic rock which is different to the usual sandy beaches but it's really nice here. There aren't that many sunbeds and umbrellas for to it being a small bay but it's lovely to lay on the rocks or beach. Very high tide after a full moon so consider that when you visit. Lots of cafes near the seafront but you should try the places up the local streets, they're fantastic especially the pizza restaurant.

Unfortunately, we were only able to spend a few hours in El Medano, but we enjoyed its atmosphere so much. We will definitely be back to windsurf as soon as possible. 😊

A lovely predominately spanish resort. It has a weekly farmers market on a Wednesday & a clothes, jewellery etc market on a Saturday. There is a good selection of supermarkets Hiper dina, dialprix & Guia. These supermarkets are open on a Sunday. There is a good selection of cafes/restaurants with reasonably priced lunch menus. I have found a limited choice of restaurants for an evening meal. The beach is sandy & has a gentle slope. Areas of the beach are ideal for all ability windsurfers.

Not my idea of a nice beach for relaxing or sunbathing, too windy, it is clearly a sport beach. Still fantastic for a visit though with lovely cafes etc.

Great location for snorkelling but watch out for surfers and wind surfers. Stayed at Arenas Del Mar, lovely hotel, would visit again.

Beautiful beach, soft sand. A surfer / hippy vibe, away from the touristy areas. Plenty of choice of where to have breakfast or lunch on a lovely sunny day! Not once harassed to dine anywhere which is refreshing. Loungers and parasol €4 each but lots of space to lay on the sand. My new favourite beach in Tenerife Sur👌🏻

Some nice clean beaches with shallow water sloping to the sea. Great waves for body boarding, surfing and wind surfing. Plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.

👍👍 Perfect spot to enjoy ocean waves in privacy, a bit windy. The best beach around El Médano from my point of view. Some people will miss toilets, showers and beach bar, for me that's perfectly OK.
