A small lake nestled in the mountains near Jemez. They offer campsites for campers and tents. It’s quiet and clean. If, however, you want to book a spot with electric you must do so early in the season because there are limited spots and they fill up fast. It’s not a large lake by any means and you’ll find most people come here for the fishing. If you want to go have a picnic in the mountains this is a lovely spot. They even have a large group shelter if you want to reserve the spot for a group gathering. Gave it 4 stars because it is small and camping spots fill up fast, but the views are wonderful. If you are going for the day from Albuquerque, plan an entire day. It takes at least a couple of hours to get to and you’ll enjoy a picturesque place for a picnic. They do charge fees so bring cash for the envelope that has a permit ticket for you to put on your windshield. It’s only $5 for a day pass from 6:30 am to 9 pm. Have your fishing license if you plan to fish.

Gorgeous state park in the Jemez Mountains. If you're only coming for the day during the season, get there first thing in the morning or you won't find a spot. It's a super-popular fishing spot. The campground is absolutely lovely! Far enough from the crowds at the lake to be peaceful and close enough to be convenient. It's also a short drive to many cool attractions (Valles Caldera), hot springs, and hiking trails!

I've been coming here for 20 years, since I was 12 years old. The lake is pristine, has some great views and good fishing. They stock the lake regularly, mostly with 10-12 inches but also with some larger trout. They allow boats,, paddle boards, kayaks, fishing tubes and canoes but no swimming. The campgrounds were very crowded in mid June. If you are keen on "real" camping I'd suggest staying at the free sites between the lake and the 376 road. There are some really amazing views and campsites as long as you are okay without water and a stinky portapotty.

It's beautiful, we loved it! I wish swimming was allowed at the lake, but we still loved it. Debbie was extremely helpful.

Stunning views, easy drive from Rio Rancho. Great place to picnic. Trout fishing, out of state fishing license required, very inexpensive.

I've been going to Fenton Lake for over 45 years. The Jemez mountains are where I grew up, and they are amazing.

Fantastic high-country, smaller lake. Beautiful area with lots of tall pines, ridges, and of course a view of Fenton Lake itself from almost everywhere you can park (or picnic). Great lake for fishing and paddleboarding/canoeing. Parking does get VERY tight, especially on weekends, and ESPECIALLY during the summer when Burqueños are trying to escape the heat.😀 $5 entry fee per vehicle, so have some cash on hand. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was for the lack of parking and congestion on the weekends. Otherwise, you'll have a great day here! 👍

It is a beautiful place to stay when it is hot in the city. We stayed at site 5, non-electric. Nice enough, two parking spots (for smaller cars or one large), a grill, a fire ring that has a hefty grill you can maneuver out of the way, and two flat spots that we found for tents. The toilet is within sight, but there is no running water. Gave 4 stars because the site (#5) is incredibly sooty and ashy. It made for a truly gritty experience, and I can't think of what one could do to make it tolerable. With two dogs along, the place was friendly enough, but the dogs were sooty. Choose a location on the creek side of the road. Those places appear to be better than this site.

Our first camping trip of the season was phenomenal at Fenton Lake! It's our favorite camping spot. Quiet and surrounded by trees. Great fishing with a short walk from the campsite to the lake or the river. And the staff there is very friendly. The ranger patrols often and lives on site. Rules are enforced which keeps things quiet and clean. The only down side is attempting to get a reservation. We're never disappointed when we go to Fenton, even when it suddenly snows unexpectedly. Water wasn't on at the camp site but they do have a water station to fill the fresh water tank. No dump station anywhere nearby though. We were thankful for the water. There are lots of paths and areas to walk and explore. We were cautioned to watch for bears and mountain lions and to keep dogs leashed. It's a beautiful place. We are looking forward to our next trip!

No swimming is allowed, it was a holiday weekend so it was packed. If you want to kayak or have some other small water craft there is a nice boat launch. The big problem is parking when it is that busy. $5 entry fee is enforced at the entrance.
