Great area, good staff. Always clean, the sauna is always clean but sometimes isn't on (usually odd times) but there is a fabulous steam room. The upstairs bathroom is so massive, also usually clean but no changing rooms. I love coming here because of how quiet it can be at specific times, perfect if you're really anxious. Parking could potentially be a bit tricky and you need your virgin card to leave. They have good equipment, a good vibe and a really nice waiting/eating area along with a small Kauai.

My new update gives this branch a 5 ***** . They have upgraded and have the best of equipment and facilities. THANK YOU!!!

Anyone considering to join this particular virgin active gym should never even consider to do so, coz this is worst maintained mismanaged , poor management who does not care for hygiene and health of members , when equipment or machinery break never replaced for months , only full of false promises , never up to date. Does not care just blabber rubbish but for months and years no equipment replaced or Maintained . The aqua pool inspite of used by babies not cleaned daily nor even once in 2 days it can go for even a week without cleaning , the steps revamped last Dec are so sharp that there have been multiple kids and adults who have got cut by the steps , even when complained they say they will see to it but to date done nothing almost a year…. That’s how negligent the management at this particular gym.

Was made to wait 30 minutes in the sun outside the gym because of capacity restrictions then told body temp is too high and maybe another 10 minutes outside in the sun will cool me down. Been training here for 4 years but will take my business elsewhere from now on. This gym is down the toilet. Massive restrictions on equipment and much machinery that is available is broken or needs maintenance. Disappointing customer service by unfriendly staff on my account. Was lied to by a staff member regarding my account and was forced to make a scene with the manager before I was assisted. I was then told by the manager that I can't get upset but she will gladly allow a staff member to be dishonest with a paying customer. Old, outdated equipment that needs maintenance, machines missing weight pins or not fully functional etc. Uncomfortably crowded with inconsiderate MF's during peak times. Nicest aspect about this gym is the exclusive parking. I can't see what makes this gym VA platinum.

Good gym overall, nice light and decent lifting area. However, the pool could do with better maintenance and cleaning as it doesn't always look very clean. Sad as it's a nice pool.

What a horrible experience at a step class with Klass. I as a paying member gave comments and feedback which were met with pure rudeness, disrespect and disregard. The music was boring and if he can't take constructive criticism he shouldn't be dealing with people!!! Especially ones who are paying! Vele his class and music are boring there were only 5 of us and in most gyms you can barely find space on a step clss cause they are actually fun but not his!

One of the best gyms I have been to in Joburg, sure its a bit on the older side but its offerings is huge. I get lift weights play squash swim laps and enjoy both sauna and steam room facilities.

Clean, friendly staff, they have plenty of underground parking for members only which is amazing! They have sauna and steam room facilities, the pool is massive and at the centre of the gym. Overall a good place to sweat.

Thanks to the commitment and efforts of Tinus and his staff, possession of my misplaced cell phone was restored in just two days! This big, well equipped gym has become intimate, therapeutic and feels like home. The spinning classes are my favourite, the coffee is excellent, & I look forward to trying out the squash courts! It's an all-round good vibe. I feel safe & love it here.🤗

Facilities are all working. Gym is clean even in bathrooms Staff is friendly. Easy access to and from parking. Good security!

Personally During the week it fills up too much and shows how bad it is as a gym There's a shortage of equipment to use and it looks like more people joined than they can handle The personal trainers book equipment as if we are in high school how can you leave your towels on a machine and go upstairs where must the rest of us gym And also they have no generator Don't join if you are a treadmill person you won't get to use it and most treadmills here are broken or faulty Eg when running it presses the emergency button for some reason and u have to redo your settings again I will be leaving after my membership ends dissappinted I didn't notice all the faults when joining

Great club with exquisite equipment. Only issue is valuables lockers being on ground whilst change rooms are on 1st floor. Meaning after changing you must go lock your valuables downstairs and come upstairs to start classes

Still one of the best gyms.

I have been training here for 30 years and it's always been a pleasure......due the great atmosphere.

I’ve been trying to change my banking details with Virgin Active for the past 3 months. Every single time I call in and talk to a consultant, they take the new banking information and I assume it has been change yet they don’t do it. The banking information which they have is no longer in use, I’ve explained this to them several times and they keep debiting the account. This is impacting my credit score and credit history negatively because it shows as an unpaid payment. On each month I’ve made payment and sent them proof of payment, yet for 3 months the funds have not been allocated. Yet they do acknowledge receipt and confirm payment. I’m unable to go to gym as my account is in arrears yet I’m paying monthly. I’ve tried to resolve this on several occasions yet I’m still not getting the assistance I need. So in essence, they keep taking payment and confirming receipt of payment without allocating them. They keep taking my new banking details yet they don’t actually update the details. My credit score has gone down and I’m still unable to go to any gym.

Good option if you are looking for a gym that isn't very busy during peak times.

Excellent gym. But they don’t stick to their group class schedule. 😢

One of my favorite gyms with the friendliest staff and trainers one could wish for. Sone of the machines are a bit outdated tho.

Been going to this gym since 2011. Staff is friendly and welcoming. They have a wide variety of equipment on the first floor with a designated weights area and a steady state cardio area with treadmills, rowing machines, cycling machines, etc. They also have an Olympic swimming pool, a heated pool and a workout studio. The second floor has another workout studio, an abs area, cycling workout room used for classes, a few other cycling machines outside the cycling workout room and a workout area with medicine balls, kettle bells, light dumbbells, etc.

Nice gym a few years ago, returned last year for a bit and noticed many of the machines are out of order and not well maintained. The most neglected pieces of equipment in many gyms are the rowing machines and this was very evident, on one day only 1 out 5 machines were working the others weren’t recording or the screens wouldn’t even turn on and they all felt terrible not smooth like a well cared for machine should feel. Might be slightly biased since I mainly row at the gym 80% and do 20% weights. Worked out for a few months there and nothing much changed for the better :(

One of the few clubs that still have squash courts! All the staff are super friendly.

Virgin Active don't care about unemployed pensioners. They don't want your business as their membership policy treats everyone the same. If I knew that when I was a Classic member I would not have supported then. Planet fitness don't charge joining fees and have a 30 day cancelation policy.

Signing up was not a seamless experience. The circuit equipment is on top of each other and there's little space.

Seems like they love Tom leave u waiting in the cold. Only gym I been to where u wait outside and is worse than any bank or government institution. The spin bikes are not kept serviced and half broken in the class. U report and it goes ignored and never fixed. They need to learn customer service from there oneighbour

The gym is awesome, however I canceled my contract in May 2023 and have it on email showing I canceled and the last debit order was to go off in June, come Jan 2024 I am getting phone calls say I owe money by their debt collection department MBD. Would not recommend starting a contract with them as they are so unorganized with their admin and staying ontop of their contract statuses

Great location if in the sandton area, also not too busy most of the time, my go to gym as it’s closest to my house . Staff are friendly.

This is a good compact gym. As usual though of most gyms the weights section does need to be expanded as there aren't enough benches.

Reasonably sized and welluipped gym, modernised. Four level parking but can be a challenge to get parking during peak hours.

Big enough to have everything you need in a gym but small enough to not overwhelm.

Great gym with two pools - one for training the other for aerobics or kids

It's not as beautiful as some of the other clubs but it has everything including a sauna and steam room, and it's a bit quieter than some of the others in the area. I like it!

It has no generator, which in 2020 South Africa is rather odd and foolish. They also do not inform you that they have no power, instead you only find this out when you arrive at the gym and are then turned away.

Enjoyed the first visit playing squash with a friend and perfect spot and gym offers variety only criticism will be they need to spend in maintenance issues will bring down the quality of the gym and image.

Don’t forget anything as menial as a towel in the change rooms because it will be stolen and when you ask the staff at reception about it after the cleaning staff confirm they did see it, you will be met with a sarcastic attitude and told that there is no such thing as lost and found.
