Any trip to the island has to include a visit to the shell museum. First thoughts are that it will be small and cheesy...aka touristy. This couldn't be farther from the reality. This is a very nice well maintained and educational opportunity for all ages. Be prepared to spend some good quality time seeing and learning about all of the exhibits. They have a nice friendly staff and a small gift shop as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and will return again.

Excellent museum! Lots of reading to learn the history of not only Sanibel Island, but shells from all over. Plenty of parking and the facilities are kept clean. Friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to answer questions you may have. A must visit if your on the island.

I didn’t know what to expect when I went there with my kids. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw that the lower level of the building had a small aquarium they also had a water touch tank with various pacific ocean creatures which my kids loved. The upstairs is a gallery of various shells and shell exhibits. It was a nice experience for the kids and myself. No snack bar or restaurant on site, only a vending machine. There are tables outside where you can sit. Price of the admission was okay but on the higher end when it comes to places like this.

I enjoyed visiting and learning so much at this museum. They had a live touch tank, various aquariums with fish and octopi. A shell learning display experience. A wonderful volunteer who answered every question addressed to her. She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic! They had a theater to watch movies about mollusks. Plus a designer clothes display that showed how royals and actors have worn clothes made out of shells throughout the years. It is family friendly, air conditioned and a place to spend a couple of hours.

A very interesting place to visit and very informative about mollusks and their life cycle. Plenty of exceptional specimens from around the world and some displays dedicated to Sanibel/Florida. We spent almost two hours there. Learned a lot. Very modern & clean facility.

This seashell museum is by far the jewel of Sanibel Island. There's so much wonderful information here of shells from around the world. A wealth of information a beautiful display. Also included are some live aquarium exhibits that include numerous fish mollusks and octopus. You can easily spend several hours here. This is a must-see exhibit.

This is a cool place to stop, especially if you're traveling with kids. There's cool exhibits to see some sea life, some of which you can touch. It's a bit on the pricey side for admission ($25 for an adult), but worth seeing at least once.

We visited here on a spring break family vacation. I was not expecting to enjoy this museum as much as we did. The staff member Carol upstairs was incredibly knowledgeable and great with our kids. The "hands on" display was a lot of fun for the kids and adults. Even my wife dipped her hand in the water to touch some of the creatures on display. We had fun trying to locate the octopus in his tank. If your kids ask "Where do shells come from?" this us the place to go.

The bathrooms and the whole place was really clean and smelled good! There was a lot to look at and some hands on stuff for the kids! They also have a small aquarium to look at that includes seahorses, squid, and different types of sea snell and conches! There was a gift shop but everything in it was a little bit high priced. The admission to the museum is about $24 per person so for two people it came out to be $47 something!

This Shell Museum is just an incredible space. It was already great but with the modernization of the building and the new touch tanks it became even better. The history of shells, the colors of shells, the wonder of shells are all explored and explained here. We go the shell museum every time we are on Sanibel Island. Highly recommend.

Interesting museum. They provide a fact hunt which kept the kids entertained. Exhibits are well made. Very educational. Friendly staff. A little expensive for how small it is, but we thought was worth it.

Lots of really great exhibits, and things to look at. My girlfriend and I spent two and a half hours here and we probably could have stayed an extra 30 minutes, it was closing time. We went when there was a folk art shell hospital exhibit, over 20 boxes of shell art hospitals. Dioramas were on display. It's sort of neat, and sort of weird. 9 out of 10 would recommend.

We’ve been coming to SanCap for 7 years, and finally made it to the shell museum! Absolutely worth the stop! All of the volunteers are so kind and informative! The displays are unique and interesting to look at. We loved the octopi and learning more about them. The touch tanks were a great experience for all of us! Definitely stop in the gift shop - fantastic finds for sure!

At first glance you think 30 minutes and done. How wrong I was! We were lucky to come right at the time for the marine biologist to talk about the Giant Pacufuc Octopus. We were able to see her feed it as well. This place is full of history of shells, how the have been used as tools, currency etc. Hands on with a variety of mollusks. Staff very knowledgeable. 3 plus hours of enjoyment and education. Plus they have some monster shells there. Enjoy

Very cool place to visit! My husband didn't think he was going to be that interested, but became really engaged. We got to watch the cuttlefish have their dinner and even got an on the spot informational about them. Fantastic staff, very clean, highly informative, fun, and great value. Don't forget to check the gift shop. It is surprisingly reasonably priced.
