Long queue for the ride! Beside the ropeway, don't miss the sightseeing boat cruise at Chuzenji Lake! It's really worth an hour cruise to watch the beautiful red leaves scenery. Visited: Oct 26, 2023.

The ropeway shuts down on November 1st for the season. The parking lot is small and cars were lined up in a cue - this time of year it’s very busy. Also the tourist are back and large tour buses are there as well. It’s best to take the city bus which has a stop across the street where the restrooms are located. Since the line was long, they issued a time card and will call you when it’s time to board. The wait time for the ride was over 1 hour, the ticket line was fast about a 10 minute wait. Overall, it was worth the wait! At the observation deck you have a beautiful view of the valley with Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls in the background.

Amazing place with the distance view of Chuzenji lake and Kegon Fall. Took the photos on 17 October 2021.

It was a pretty decent view, but don't think you're getting on a skytram, and going very far. It’s roughly 200-300M up, and I'm not sure why you'd buy it one-way ticket. Little pricey for a view you are only up there for maybe 5 minutes.

Worth taking. There’s no bus back (only forward). Ticket is JPY 1000 roundtrip (10% discount if you arrived by bus). There’s no exit from the other end, so I don’t know why one way tickets is sold. A little pricey for a 10 minutes stop; but the view from above is breathtaking.

I went here twice, with the first bus each day from Tobu-Nikko station. The wait was fine, 15 minutes till I got onto the cable car. I used the Nikko Area Pass, which exempted me from queuing for buying the ticket. The view on the observatory deck was okay, depending on the weather. On the first day, it was cloudy, but it was clear on my second day. For a better view, you need to take a hiking trail, starting from the smoking area below the deck. The trail will take you over the mountain to Chuzenji Lake, or down to the mountain base on Nikko side. It took me 2h to get to Chuzenji Lake, but that was because I took a wrong turn going down to Nikko, and needed to backtrack.

Waited about 15 minutes to board the ropeway, able to buy tickets on the spot. Regular tickets are 900 yen for a two way ride up and down. They do have a schedule for the rides that can be found at the station. Views were great and thankfully there was no crowd at the observation deck. Would recommend going if you are on the way to Chuzenji

Amazing views from this place, definitely stop but. On one side you can see as far as mount fuji in good weather, on the other you get a great view of Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls, and Mount Nantai. It's 1000 yen, with a 100 yen discount if you have the nikko pass (which you should definitely get)

An absolute must visit place! Incredibly beautiful scenery! Huge waterfalls that seem to burst out of the severed earth! However, I have been told that there is a lot of fog at this location and many days you can't see the lake or the mountains. I wish you all the best of luck!

A must visit when in Nikko. The observation deck has a splendid view of Kegon Falls. Autumn foliage will add amazing colours to the scenery. Do have a camera that can zoom far if possible. The view is best captured when you are able to zoom in a little. Highly recommended!

The trip to the top only take a minute and the view is stunning. Not only of the waterfall but also the surrounding mountains. The parking at the rope way is small so prepare for some waiting or be sure not to visit during weekends or holidays. The winding road leading to the top is spectacular in itself. You can buy food and drinks at the site before you go up and there is a restroom.

One of the best scenic place in Japan. The waiting for parking in weekend is very long but it really worth the wait for the view. The view of the Kegon falls with Mt. Nantai is very beautiful. Best season to visit is autumn with full foliage. So it's around 1st half of November.

I want to give it 4.5/5. Beautiful view to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon fall from the Observation Deck. It takes 1-2 minutes by the rope way to the top. However you have to wait 1-1.5 h to take your turn during the peak time. Have chips, fried chicken while waiting. Below are pictures taken on 28/10/2022.

We can see the lake, falls, and more of them here through the 100-yen rental telescope provided in the deck. When I ride the ropeway I saw several people hiking too.

Great stop with a car! Its a 3minute ropeway to the observation deck wich is realy worthwhile the view is stuning, the kedang waterfalls to the one site the town to the other site. Costs 1000 yen pp.

I do enjoy a good ropeway, although this one is rather short. Offers excellent views of the surrounding areas though. As per my last, using the ropeway includes parking at the base. Tickets are purchased at the vending machine right after entering the building.

It will cost you 1.500 yen for a two-way ticket (which you have to take as the short ride only leads to the observation platform) and is quite nice as you can see the waterfall and surrounding nature. Tough I have to say it's not the most amazing thing ever, so if you're short on money, you can skip it.

If the weather is not nice, it might not be worth the hassle of getting there. 1. The ticket for the ropeway costs 1000¥ 2. The bus from Yumoto/Chuzenji in direction to Nikko does not stop here. If you are travelling with public transport, bare in mind that you have to transfer buses to get back to Nikko! The top of the ropeway offers a view of the Kegon falls, chuzenji lake and Nantai mountain, which is potentially breathtaking! It can be foggy though, so that you can't see everything.

The ticket is worth for. The view is incredible with tons of energy from the natural at the top hill. You can see Chuzenji lake and Kegon Falls together in one shot. The ride is only 5-10 mins for a single leg. And of course, you need a round trip ticket to go and back. Do not miss it if you already have chance to visit Nikko.

Most beautiful and breathtaking view from the top Autumn was at it peak and could see most colorful autumn Parking lot waiting time would be +1hr or more depending on the traffic condition, so better to plan accordingly. There is 10% discount for people with NIKKO ALL AREA PASS. Ropeway ride is 3mins, and after getting on top we can stay there as long as we wish

First tip of advice to enjoy the ropeway is to arrive as early as possible to avoid waiting in the queues. Easy to reach by bus but they are extremely busy with people on their way to the lake and onsen towns. The views though are stunning and definitely worth it!

  • 5/5 Marcus 5 months ago on Google
Great view of the Kegon fall. During autumn they actually start operation earlier than the stated opening hours, I highly suggest coming earlier to avoid the traffic jam and the long queue. I arrived at 8.40am on a weekday and the wait was minimal. When I descended at 9.20am the queue had been super long.
