Touring with Jan was a 10 star experience. He was knowledgeable, passionate about his subject matter and gave us such insight into the old city of Barcelona. Our tour lasted about 4 hours. When I first got there - I thought it would be impossible to sustain my interest for that long. But the time flew and my husband and I as well as the other couple we were traveling with could have remained with Jan all day. We are so grateful to have seen Barcelona and Jewish life through his eyes. Anyone who can tour with Jan should consider himself fortunate.

We recently completed The Jewish and Gothic Quarters Tour of Barcelona with Yan Pekar and we were completely delighted. This was the day after our tour with a different company and this tour differed in that we were shown both the beauty of the medieval city with vestiges of what was once a vibrant Jewish community. Yan was sensitive to our feelings - wishing not to offend/disturb us in any way but my wife and I and our close friends encouraged him to share with us information he learned from researching the city’s archives. He carefully explained what he learned, and showed us physical evidence found on walls, doorways, hidden passages, etc. Yan was easygoing, informative, honest, and responsible. Friends of ours recommended his tour and our trip to Spain would have been incomplete if we did not book his tour. We strongly recommend taking his tour whether you have a Jewish background or wish to learn about the true background of this beautiful city. Much better than expected! Our guide was very patient and adapted himself to the pace of my senior parents. Everything was *very well explained*, no site was skipped, many interesting anecdotes, with special attention to details and to the *safety of the tour*. Yan was an absolute gem of guide for our tour. He was one of the most knowledgeable tour guides we came across during our travels. He was very passionate about the Jewish sites we visited and history that took place at those sites. He did a phenomenal job contrasting modern day Barcelona vs ancient historical Barcelona. Yan is absolutely a wonderful tour guide! We scheduled with Yan for the Jewish Quarter and Spanish Inquisition history tour. Yan was extremely easy to communicate with. His quick responsiveness to questions, his willingness to tailor the tour to our needs and his going above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied and comfortable is not typical for a tour guide these days. Yan is super knowledgeable and pointed out very interesting details throughout our tour which made my teenager really curious and even taking notes on what Yan shared with us. He made us extremely comfortable with asking questions about Judaism and made sure we were safe. We spoke about some heart wrenching details of the Jewish people and also shared some heart felt laughs throughout the tour. Yan is one of the best tour guides we have ever had by far! Yan pointed out sites (headstones from Jewish graves with Hebrew lettering that were pilfered and re-used for building materials), and told stories that illustrated how Jewish people (and other minorities) were treated in Barcelona over hundreds of years. My husband and I had limited time in Barcelona and so wanted to use our time well. Yan was the perfect guide to do so just that.
