A la carte is prob the best way to go for this place. We had the $150 tasting menu and had high expectations given the hyped reviews. While we loved the friendly staff there, we’re sad to say that food and service quality were both below our expectations 🥲 Food: - the starter with ice cream didn’t quite make sense for us as it was very sweet (didn’t clean our palate) - the shrimp and pork belly were mediocre - we liked the foie gras dish and the sea bass, but there was significant inconsistency in serving size. My friend’s size would be close to half my size. - we enjoyed the soup and the duck breast :) - the ending dessert hot chocolate was very very sweet with no richness. It had no texture and the whipped cream looked like it was plated by a three year old.. Service: - with a reservation for 7:30, we had to wait over 20 min for seating - when a server takes away our used silverware for one dish, we don’t receive new utensils until we ask for them ourselves - when a server takes away the finished plates, sauce drops onto our seat and no one noticed to wipe it off. Overall we’re grateful for the experience, but we don’t recommend the tasting menu. Hopefully our feedback can be taken into account for improving this beautiful restaurant 🙏

We were excited about eating here even before it received a James Beard nomination...and I have to say that the entire experience lived up to the hype (and then some). This is a fine-dining restaurant with the prices to match, but the food is so unique and delicious and the service so on-point that it was worth every penny. The room itself is lovely--dark and refined but punctuated by brilliant artwork hanging on every wall. The initial mole tasting was not only fun but also helpful, since we ended up choosing the main course option of selecting a protein (I got halibut, my husband got pork) and choosing your favorite mole to go with it. Every dish was fascinating and delicious and beautiful to look at--you can see and taste the level of care and detail that goes into all of them. The chef came out to talk to every group of diners and even posed for a selfie with us as we were leaving! The juxtaposition of traditional fine-dining touches with flavors you may have never experienced left us delighted at the end, and we can't wait to go back.

Potentially the best fine dining option in Santa Fe. A delicious variety of mole-driven dishes that proudly put their cultural influences front and center while also retaining a familiar feel for those who might be new to this type of cuisine. Given the quality of the food, the atmosphere is refreshingly unpretentious and somehow both cozy and vibrant, featuring a variety of stunning artwork, warm colors, wooden beams, and quirky accents. Service is a standout - the staff is passionate and knowledgeable, but also approachable and attentive. The owner/head chef makes a concerted effort to check in on you and make sure your experience is a memorable one. Only small qualm: the sopa de amor was a bit overhyped. Skip it for the mole sampler platter, Brussels, and the truly spectacular zucchini blossoms (they were a special, but they were so good I think they should be made a regular menu item if feasible).

Well rounded meal and attentive service. The food is comparable to that in Mexico City. Moles are authentic and delicious. I was told that the chef would prepare sides that complements the different mole. I was a bit disappointed when every person in our party got the same rice and greens. The meat is the same just different mole sauce. Don’t get me wrong, taste is great but lacks the ‘inventive’ flavor combinations expected of the restaurant. Appetizers and drinks are solid. I also appreciate the interesting art all around you. Service was great but I actually think they can make it a bit more relaxed for the vibe of this restaurant. (Think dining in your hip, artsy friends’ house vs museum gallery.) Although the price tag definitely matches this level of service. Overall one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe and worth a visit.

One of the better restaurants in Santa Fe. Service was professional and prompt. Moles very well done. Black bean soup very good. Very extensive tequila menu with flights available. Lighting good. Can go with selected sauce or pick your favorite for your main. Definately worth visiting for a nice meal.

If you are in Santa Fe, You need to visit one of the finest restaurant named “Sazon”. This is not your traditional Mexican cuisine. This is an exquisite empire of complexity of flavors that is beyond your imagination. The multi-complexity of exotic flavors take you to a higher level experience. The atmosphere was welcoming and beautiful with the many large size paintings of Frida Kahlo. The staff at Sazon is very knowledgeable and know all the ingredients in all the dishes in the menu. The waitress “Shauna” started with a sampling of Mole sauces that are in their own way very complex. The mole sampler platter came with small tortillas in which you dip in mole as your waitress explains the mole uniqueness taste and flavors. For Drinks we ordered specialty cocktails “Frida Kahlo”, “Diego Rivera” and “Cosmopolitan”. Started with the “Sopa de Amor” one of Chef ’s Fernando Olea signature soup. The “Sopa de Amor” is incredibly divine and not to be missed. I am in love with this soup! Chef Fernando Olea charmingly greets each customer in his signature “ten gallon” hat. Chef Fernando is recipient of the James Beard Foundation Award. It’s an honor to have met him personally. Our party of three ordered the following for dinner: “Shrimp Enchilada” for myself which was so delicious. I enjoyed its creamy sauce with tons of shrimp with every bite. “Lomo De Puerco” (Pork Loin) was enjoyed with red spicy mole. It had decent amount of pork, the rice was flavorful accompanied with purple cabbage. “Atun” (Tuna) fresh flavors pan seared and served with a wonderful rice and purple cabbage. I love dessert and we had the “Dulce Sinfonia” the signature dessert. The dessert, so hard to explain, it had so many flavors from ginger, avocado, piñon nut, beets, and jalapeño. It gradually slowly sneaks into to your tasting palate ending with a spicy taste. Incredible experience! Best in the World!

Sazón will most definitely hold a well deserved spot in my top 3 favorite restaurants of all time. The uniqueness and intriguing flavor profiles are what makes this restaurant such a stand out. There’s a complexity and evolution to many of their signature dishes that I have never experienced anywhere else. I can’t describe it in any other way, and even if I tried it wouldn’t do it justice. The service was exceptional, such friendly, positive, down to earth energy. (Thank you Lacey for guiding me on “The Experience”.) Even the other customers were intermittently talking to each other and giving some food recommendations. I also had the opportunity to meet the Chef, who is not only creative and innovative but modest, and humble. (Plus wears a really awesome hat!)

My boyfriend exclaimed, after taking multiple bites of my Shrimp Enchilada, "THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED!" And I agreed (and still agree). We were passing through Santa Fe on a road trip from Sedona to Kansas City, and saw that Sazon had strong reviews so we made a reservation. In the era of Covid, we're glad to sit outside which is the current situation at Sazon (aside from maybe a few lucky folks that can snag an inside, socially-distanced seat). The brilliant and seasoned Chef Fernando Olea hails from Mexico City and has created one of the most unique and delicious menus we've experienced. He greeted us multiple times at our table and after we had consumed the magic that is our mezcal & tequila cocktails (YUM! We both got the Sazonrita which comes with mezcal, but I got tequila - it's a super clean, not too sweet margarita with chile salt on the rim and it's perfect) and our mole sampler, we asked him, "How is this food so incredible?" He replied humbly, "While most restaurants prioritize business over the art of cooking food and creating a joyful customer experience, I prioritize the customer's pleasure every single time." He explained that nothing makes him happier than customers who are as satisfied as we were. I cannot emphasize enough how special Sazon is, and how if you are in Santa Fe or anywhere close to it, it is absolutely worth visiting. We can't wait to go back, and hopefully next time we can sit inside the restaurant that is full of beautiful art as well! HUGE thank you to our amazing serving staff and Chef Olea for such an excellent meal and evening! Oh, and do NOT sleep on the shrimp enchilada. Everything on the menu seems to be very good, but this particular dish is so uniquely & perfectly prepared, you must experience it :)

We just wrapped up a very nice dinner at Sazon. We live nearby and for some reason it never made the cut on our list. The menu had lots of great options and loved the mole sampler as a starter. The shrimp, bone marrow and octopus were also delicious. The cocktail selection and wine list were fun with a lot of great options from the Guadalupe Valley (and a knowledgeable and friendly server). The reason for 4 stars versus 5 stars was the chef spent the entire evening doing photo opps (awkward when you’re trying to enjoy your “fine dining” meal) and worried about table arrangements (which was very apparent as a casual observer). I’ve never encountered either of these issues at Geronimo, Santacafe or The Compound where they focus on the food and customer service so I think we’ll stick with those as our regular spots.

An incredibly delightful culinary experience. Eating here is truly a wild ride of flavors and sensory experiences. From the delightful mole sampler plate to the most interesting soup I've ever had (sopa de amor) to the melt in my mouth duck to the absolutely surprising Dulce Sinofonía, this was one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed. The experience was also made fun by the chef choosing which sides to include based upon your meat and mole pairing. The Dulce Sinofonía was so unique they do not tell you what five flavors are in the dessert until you take your first bite. Such a fun experience to have celebrated our anniversary with.

The mole sauces were really great here, although the food was quite expensive. The stuffed squash blossoms were much heavier than I expected so I wasnt hungry enough for a meat entree, but I don’t care for eggplant (the only vegetarian dish). The waitress suggested I ask the chef, and after he came to talk to me himself he made the MOST DELICIOUS fried tofu dish with mole sauce that I have ever had. They should really make it a regular menu item!

In town for a conference and decided to take a stab at walking in since there were no reservations available and got lucky. We were seated promptly and presented with a wonderful description of the menu. A selection of fresh mole selections was brought to our table. The server described each in exquisite detail. The chef personally came out to thank us for coming out and to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Everything about this experience was remarkable and I walked away knowing that I was fortunate to have been able to dine here.

What rude people who work at this restaurant. Called in an order through Grubhub early in the day for a delivery at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. Yes, during covid-19. When the order wasn't delivered by 8 pm, I contacted the restaurant to be told by the woman who answered the phone that there was no order and too bad, so sad can't take care of you. Transfer to manager yielded the same result. Then when we told them we were staying at one of the upscale hotels, they were ready to change their tune. Sorry, not sorry, not in this day and age. Get over yourself Sazon. Too many great places to try that actually care about their patrons. Never will attempt again.

Disappointing Vegetarian Options & Service at Sazon - 2 Star Review I am writing this review for Sazon in Santa Fe with a rather heavy heart as my dining experience considerably missed the mark. As a vegetarian, I am perpetually on the hunt for diverse and worthy dining experiences. However, Sazon didn't translate into the enjoyable vegetarian retreat I hoped it would be. The vegetarian options on the menu were, at their best, below average in taste and range. Apart from the limited items on the menu, especially for those seeking plant-based dishes, the quality of the food was highly disappointing. It was almost as if my taste buds had embarked on an adventure where they expected exquisiteness but fell off the cliff into the abyss of mediocrity. Sazon needs to reconsider the intricate balance of flavors in their vegetarian dishes. The culinary experience was further marred by service that was anything but satisfying. The evening turned particularly sour when the server and I got into a prolonged, unnecessary debate over the origin of the wine I ordered. It took an astonishing 55 minutes of back and forth before the server reluctantly admitted that I was indeed correct about the wine's location. Time that could have enriched my dining experience was instead wasted on a trivial matter. The combination of subpar vegetarian food and less than ideal service at Sazon has left a bitter taste in my mouth and made my visit there an experience I would not hope to relive. The restaurant may shine somewhere, somehow - but their vegetarian cuisine and customer service require significant improvements to reach an acceptable standard. As such, I regret to say that I can't offer more than a 2-star rating for a generally disappointing experience. I hope that Sazon heeds this feedback and takes the necessary steps to improve its offerings and service.

Great food, traditional Mexico style with lots of unique flavors. Expect to spend $100 per person with alcohol, so not cheap but delicious.

Wow, this place was great. Very unique experience and delish Mexican food. We spent a lot of time in Mexico and know what good Mexican food tastes like. This was 10 out of 10. The best part is it has upscale modern feel and taste to it. Very friendly staff, made us very welcome. We highly recommend this place. Though dinner starts early.

This restaurant is a dining experience. Recommended to locals and visitors. The moles are spectacular as is every dish we have had here. Stuffed eggplant melts in your mouth. Service is impeccable. Wonderful cocktails and wine list.

I’m fortunate to get to eat at many top rated restaurants around the world, and I don’t say this lightly as I absolutely love excellent food, but the meal I ate at Sazón recently is likely the best meal I’ve ever eaten. We started with a flight of five different mole sauces that we enjoyed on pieces of tortilla. We ordered the octopus appetizer and pork belly appetizer, then I followed those with the fillet, and we finished with what I believe was an avocado mousse with pistachio and jalapeño and drizzled with some sort of beet topping. The flavors of each dish were like a culinary symphony that built a grand piece of art together. Until eating here I had been dreaming for years of a lobster ravioli dish that I’d had in Martha’s Vineyard some time back, but now I just can’t wait to get back to Sazón in lovely Santa Fe! The mastery of flavors here is simply out of this world! Great job, Chef Fernando!! Amazing amazing amazing!! If I was going to split super fine hairs and offer one tiny critique, I feel that while the fillet was perfectly done, the crust on top was just a little too thick and cumbersome to cut. Perhaps a thinner crust or sharper knives are in order…

Congratulations to James Beard Award winning chef Fernando Olea — our first visit underlines why he and Sazon won this prestigious award. The menu offerings are so diverse and tastes so complex, complimentary and intriguing. Having dined in Mexico City many times it is easy to just say yeah, they have authentic mole sauce(s), but honestly the range of flavors was so diverse and creative among the 4 sampled! The Sopa D’Amor was to die for, Octopus in olive oil, chef special halibut in a charred pepper sauce, and pork loin with mole were all fantastic. But what should make this restaurant a candidate for a Michelin star (if Michelin spent time in US Southwest) is that in addition to great creative food, the service is top drawer — not in a typical bother-you-every-minute-to-top-up-your-water American style of service, but in a well established cosmopolitan read-your-mind anticipatory level of service (think Le Grand Vefour in Paris). Tomas did a great job along with rest of staff serving us. Kudos to chef Olea for being accessible and engaging with all his patrons, taking time to discuss dishes and preparation. Look forward to our next visit.

We had a wonderful experience at Sazon. From our initial greeting to the warm and friendly service to the delicious meal. It starts with a sampling of the the moles. The server brings out a plate with the different moles selections for you to choose from. We started our evening meal with a selection of appetizers that include vegetarian options as our table was a mix of omnivores and herbivores. Dishes were spaced to give us time to enjoy each course. The only con was regarding the duck dish. With the mole, the dish was flavorful however, when tasted without the mole, the dish packed flavor and was on the drier side. If this was intentional, as a way of showcasing the mole, that would have been nice to know ahead of time. All in all, highly recommend this restaurant.

A dining experience that began with a tasting is various moles and ended with one of the most incredible dessert dishes I've had! A must visit in Santa Fe. The mole tasting helped set the taste buds alive. The chefs crab soup is as good as it gets, savory and sweet in a triple layered manner. The appetizers and main courses are all unique takes on classics, or a totally new creation by the chef. The Xochilmilkos are an example of a truly unique appetizer, while the Cholula entree was more average than expected to my palette, likely due the heavy usage of chocolate and cinnamon. The cocktails have incredible depth to them as well. I'd need to come back to try the many other menu items!

An unique experience. Everything was absolutely perfect. The mole is something I have never before, so you get to try four different one. We had several dishes that we all shared. The wonderful Chef came to see us and everyone else. Our waiter was the kindest. Book a long time in advance.

Came here for tasting menu dinner in May 2023. We started off with excellent margaritas and then it all went downhill from there. The food was bizarre!! They started us off with a sweet ice cream fondant (which we later saw others having for dessert). Shrimp tempura with sriracha aioli seemed basic and out of place for high end Mexican. They repeated the aioli with the fish on crackers. Octopus was tender but drowning in salty olive oil soup. There was some kind of sweet ground beef dish with nuts and raisins. Sopa de amor (sweet) inspired hate not love. Service was cloying, mole also too sweet.

There is nothing I would change about this place. We had a perfect dining experience, one which I won’t soon forget thanks to the incredible service which really embellished and enhanced the taste and presentation of the food. Megan was lovely, warm, charming, helpful, and attentive but never overbearing. You just can’t beat a meal that starts with a complimentary guided mole tasting. Do what everyone says - eat the sopa de amor - it is a once in a lifetime dish. We also had phenomenal cocktails (especially the mezcal margarita “Viejo Ahumar”), yellowfin carpaccio appetizer, rack of lamb with the New Mexican mole, the Cholula, and chef’s dessert. I enjoyed the distinct element of sweetness in every dish, but that may not be for everyone. This was easily the best meal we had across a five state multi-month roadtrip.

We dined at Sazon during the Santa Fe, NM Wine and Chili Fiesta.  We had to make reservations 3 months early, as Chef Fernando Olea was the James Beard 2022 Winner, Best Chef of the Southwest ... boy was that award well deserved.  Dining at Sazon was one of the most incredible dining experiences we have had in years.  Definitely going back on our next trip to Santa Fe!  Best advice is to put yourself in the hands of the wait staff and let them guide you through the meal. Our dinner began with a prickly pear margarita and the Clooney Coin, which is basically a straight up margarita with Casamigos Blanco tequila.  Both of the cocktails were phenomenal!  As an appetizer we had the sample platter of the chef's seven different moles, all excellent, with super depths of flavor.  It was hard to pick a favorite...  We had the Sopa de Amor next, the chef's signature soup.  OMG!  They tell you to not stir it, just put your spoon in and and lift it out.  The soup had layers of flavor, some hot, some a little cooler, a sublime fantasy of flavor. For entrees, we chose the duck breast with one of the red moles (I don't recall the names, one green, one red).  The duck was expertly prepared, and the moles off the chart greatness.  We also had the Cholula, a tower of poblano pepper, ground lamb, pork and beef, nuts, dried fruits and spices in a cold creamy walnut sauce, littered with pomegranate seeds.  Crazy delicious!  I've included photos of the menus with this review, read them and dream!  LOL BTW, service is perfect, attentive but not intrusive. If it were possible to give Sazon more than 5 stars, I would give it 10!

I wasn't sure this was going to be 'my thing' aa I am not a mole fan and wasn't excited by the concept. The reviews were above and beyond so I booked the reservation. So glad I did! The food was amazing and beyond creative. The experience began with a mole tasting - and wow! I am a fan of *this* chef's moles! Overall for the dinner, I have never had so many flavors meld together into a spectactular mouth bite. Service set the bar higher than high. I loved how the award winning chef checked on his guests. A very memorial evening in Santa Fe. Loved, loved, loved it!

A real food journey. It all starts with delicious mole sauces. Pick your favorite and your entree recommendations follow. Don’t miss out on the Sopa de Amor, Chef Olea’s signature soup, it’s out of this world. End with the chef’s signature dessert, full of mystery. To top it off, if you’re lucky you might even meet the humble Chef Olea. He definitely deserves the 2022 James Beard award for best chef of the Southwest!

We love our experience at Sazon. We highly recommend make a reservation, the food goes far beyond and the customer service makes the experience unique our server Megan was so helpful and gave us the best recommendation. We were surrender by art and loved each painting around us (Frida Calo ) The chef is going to be around just to make sure you get the best experience he is so friendly and kind. Hello. Former New Yorker and world traveler (based on food). Chef Fernando and his entire staff were outstanding. And that's even before I tell you about the food. My partner and I thought that it was some of the most ingenious delicious food we have ever eaten in our lives. We eat not infrequently at Michelin/James Beard restaurants so I'm so happy to give others who love good food this recommendation. It was our first time, but definitely not our last. The staff, Chef Fernando, our server, the ambiance, it was just outstanding from beginning to end.

What a fabulous experience. The many 4-5 star reviews are accurate for a reason - Sazon was by far our favorite meal in Santa Fe. Cozy fireplace and ambiance indoors and multiple air filters plugged in with tables ample distance apart, so we also felt safe dining inside. Food was delicious, creative, and very elegantly presented. Definitely worth making Sazon something to look forward to when we return!

This is a truly outstanding restaurant with amazing depths of flavor in each dish. If you do want to sit outside, be sure to include it in your reservation request, we ended up inside. Service was excellent, I think you could order any dish on the menu and it would be incredible. The beef tenderloin was outstanding and the chicken enchiladas were the best I have ever had, and the presentation was more modern than what you traditionally think. They also have a good wine list, not quite as extensive as I may have hoped, but definitely some solid finds on there. Highly recommend Sazon! Only negative we experienced was dressing for outdoor, then being told we had to dine inside, and it was fairly warm in the restaurant. The host who seated us was asked about cooling down the space and he did make a smart-aleck comment back to us that was unnecessary! Other than that, it was an almost perfect night!

Thank you for the great hospitality Sazon!

The Chef has 4 moles that go with different meats. The waitress bring you a taste of the moles so you can decide which mole you want to pair with which meat. I stuck with Chef's choice for my halibut. It was excellent. Desserts were fantastic.

This place was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was warm and the service was excellent. Chef Fernando came to check on us a couple times, which was very thoughtful. We had the Sopa de Amor and Oaxaca for appetizer and we totally recommend them. The shrimp enchiladas were the best we’ve ever had and we also enjoyed the enmoladas. All the mole sauces were amazing. We highly recommend Sazón!

Wow! A 5 star dining experience near the plaza in Santa Fe. The meal started with a mole tasting plate, which we then chose our favorites from to build our main course off of. I loved the customization of the meal to our tastes and it made for a unique meal. The food was spectacular - both beautifully presented and delicious. We sat in the patio next to a gorgeous fountain, and even in the cold evening, with the patio heaters we felt very comfortable. The staff was attentive and helpful in making our dinner choices. Excellent experience and hope to return to try their chef’s tasting menu.

From the moment we stepped foot in Sazon, to when we left - everything was perfect. The staff was very courteous and helpful throughout the meal. And then there was the meal - exceptional! Our waitress did a great job explaining every detail of every course. She was also "spot-on" when she recommended which wines to complement our main courses. A truly wonderful dining experience.

Delicious and creative cuisine. The sopa de amor, duck tacos, and the huitlacoche were fantastic. Moles were on point. Friendly service with outdoor dining and all the safety precautions taken.

We had the best experience at Sazon. We had looked everywhere for a restaurant that could accommodate my difficult food allergies. Sazon made no hesitations in saying they would make me something special if necessary. I have celiac disease and am gluten free as well as vegetarian. We said that when we made the reservation and everyone was aware of it when we showed up. Our waitress Karla was so wonderful and knowledgeable. Everything we ate and drank were delectable and so unique. We started with the Sazonrita drink which is their take on a margarita with mudddled cucumber and mezcal. We each had 3 by the end of the meal. First they brought the moles for tasting and they were all incredible. We shared the Xochimilco appetizer and were blown away by the flavors. For the main course I had the Berenjena and my mom got the special of the day which was a sea bass that she paired with the mole poblano from the mole tasting. It's safe to say that this was the most incredible dining experience. We already made another reservation to come back during our next visit to Santa Fe.

Fantastic! Sublime! Awsome! Beef hearts, Octopus, Angus Steak, pork, lamb, beef, all with special mole sauces, and a wine spectator 90 rated baja California wine that was Bordeaux like. Exceptional service. When Michelin gets around to New Mexico, they need to check Sazón out! Chef Olea, bravo!

We ordered from the new take out menu, and it was delicious. We had the veggie and shrimp tacos. We saved the accompanying sauce leftovers to have with chips later - so good. I look forward to returning to Santa Fe to enjoy dining in the restaurant. I met Chef Fernando while waiting for my food. He was very gracious and shared information about the different moles I had purchased to take home.

This was spectacular!! We started with grasshoppers (wow...where do you find that??) & octopus which were both wonderful. The moles are all top notch but the duck & chocolate was crazy good. Finally the Dulce Sinfonía !!! Iced Beetroot, ginger, jalapeño, avocado, piñata amongst others - totally unique. Oh & they serve killer margaritas .. The chef will be out amongst the guests to answer all questions.

We had a wonderful dinner at Sazon! Chef Olea came by our table to make certain we were pleased with our meal. Gerardo was very knowledgeable about the menu and he went out of his way to discuss the multiple flavors one experiences with Dulce Simfonia (dessert).

Beautiful moles and cocktails as well as appetizers. It gets expensive quick but it's a very nice treat. I certainty look forward to going again. Beautiful patio seating and the interior was stunning too.

This is the best restaurant in Santa Fe. The food is amazing, creative and tastes wonderful! The service is 5 star. This is on par with a Michelin star restaurant. Have the squash blossom appetizer and the chefs special soup then split the poblano! The interior is beautiful with colorful art.
