A very ambitious and magnificent building but quite spooky. Huge, that is, 'too huge' and empty in every sense. Somehow it seems to reflect exclusively the power and wealth of the region (although it seems to me that it is the power and wealth of Santiago and not Galicia). This makes it seem distant from people, and culture and art are something else. I visited a wonderful exhibition and that's the only thing I liked.

What a wound on the city. Absolute momument to hubris with egomaniacal architecture to match. Useless, out of scale spaces that sit empty and disconnected from the world around them. That it lords over one of the most sacred pilgramage sites adds insult to injury.

Must visit (if you are an Architect). While the spaces are amazing, this is yet another starchitect failure to put the interests of the client before their own. Only 4 out of 8 buildings ever saw the light, and the technical contortionisms required to materialised Eisenman's vision left so much to desire. Over budgeted, over schedule, over specified and over designed... Perhaps only time will tell.

It's way bigger than I expected. We went there for a concert and there is a climbing wall that they are still building and a skating pool and lots of places to sit. I think it would he a fun place to go walk around on a lazy Sunday.

It just makes me sad to see such a waste of money and resources at this massive scale. The architecture is impressive, but the scheme is oversized for what it is and where it is. We were the two of us in the museum on a saturday afternoon.

This is a wasteful and unnecessary work. A witness of the constructive madness of Spain in the first decade of the 21st century.

It's a wonderful place to explore during the day and also in the evening to enjoy the fascinating lighting of an iconic venue overlooking the old city of Santiago. It's the culmination of architectural design, function, landscaping and symbolism. Absolutely worth a visit.

The hugely ambitious cultural project overlooking Santiago by the american architect Peter Eisenman. Definitely a must visit for those interested in architecture and what happens when dreams and ambitions collide with reality. Virtually impossible to photograph due to its size. Unless traveling by car it is also surprisingly hard to visit. Good carparking and facilities plus some of the best views over Santiago.

Impressive architecture, free modern art museum and landscaped walks with views of the city and random artworks to find. There is also a fun play area for children of all ages.

As a family of architects we found these five buildings fascinating. Though it's seems to have become a dog park and play ground for the locals after 8:00 pm.

Una construcción faraonica que no sirve de mucho, de las que se construyeron por esa época en España. Que lleva un gasto de mantenimiento y no se le saca partido. Buena visita para ver el despilfarro sin sentido.

Priceless!! What an inspiring beautiful gem of a place!! Absolutely fabulous!! The photographs & the structure plus the curves are magnifique!! Loved the nature area with the man made lake. There is a great cafe and amazingly clean bathroom facilities. The fantastic views & the wonderful staff. Unmissable location.

They have interesting exhibitions and events here including a Library. It's an interesting complex of buildings with a footprint of a scallop so it's modern design is different ! It sure is controversial as it will never be finished ( completely out of scale )and given its long term maintenance costs! The pedestrian route from Plaza Obradoiro will help bring the public to visit it more. There are nice views here too.

A really lovely spot to visit, tons of space, nice views, coffee. The architecture is astounding, wow. I want to see music and live performances here, I want to project light and video onto the walls. Good for the family, parks, walks, museums, art, cafe, food, toilets. Good work Galicia, money well spent.

Fascinating buildings and museum, a huge contrast to the old town of Santiago. We walked here from the centre of historical Santiago de Compostela, which was a lovely and relaxing excursion.

City of culture of Galicia is a complex of cultural buildings in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. It was designed by group of architectures led by Peter Eisenmam. Construction was challenging and expensive because buildings looks like rolling hills. In 2013 it was announced that the construction was halt. So International Art center and Music and Scenic Art center will not be built.

A very nice place not too far away from the city at the top of a hill. It's vast and spacious, good for bike rides, skateboards or just for a quality walk. Has a special place with a pleasant view to see the sunset. Includes many buildings: museum, library, free VR experience (has to be booked in advance), cafeteria and many more. Recommend it.

  • 4/5 giovanni g. 7 months ago on Google
Very beautiful buildings but pretty chaotic. A lot of things were to be build (cafeteria) or was closed with workers everywhere. Nothing was advertised as "in maintenance" tho.

Lacking frequency on the public transport. People would give much more use to the services up there with better connection to city's core. At least people is kick-starting their projects up there to help it develop its full potential

Architecture has traditionally operated as a semiotic system expressing a defined expansion of matter. Today, however, it is no longer useful or meaningful to attempt to replicate the architecture of the past. Indeed, the new millennium marks a shift away from a representation-obsessed, semiotic culture to a new sensibility - a tactile, plastic, and mobile culture of affect. In this post-semiotic sensibility, it is no longer necessary to differentiate between signs and signifieds, but rather to know what to touch. Design proposal for the City of Culture in Santiago represents a tactile response to a new social logic: that of genetic coding.

Great place to enjoy modern deconstructivism architecture by Peter Eisenmann. There are interesting exhibitions in a contemporary art museum. Almost all buildings are accessible except Court

  • 2/5 Alex C. 1 year ago on Google
I wouldn't really recommend visiting here. There isn't much to see if you are a tourist. The museum only has one open exhibitions which is quite small. The exhibition is also only in Galician and Spanish so do bear that in mind. The only other things to see are the sculptures which although are interesting is definitely not worth a bus fare or the lengthy hike from the city centre!

(Translated by Google) As an architectural work it is interesting but it has a high cost that does not compensate for the little use that is given to the buildings. It is now better sold as a promenade park and has more visibility to travelers by the new access from the highway. They made their way, and placed some sculptures. Behind are views of Santiago. Fixeron senda, e colocaron algunhas esculturas. Detrás téñense vistas de Santiago.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful, spectacular and very expensive White Elephant. It must have cost the Galicians millions of Euros and little use is made. Beautiful to see from the highway. The construction is thriving, but the location is completely out of place these days. Certainly, over the years, the city will integrate with construction (Oops, should it have been the other way around). However, this does not matter, as we have the Taj Mahal as a fantastic example of what time justifies everything. If you have the time and patience to walk a lot inside the complex itself, hoping it doesn't rain and / or be cold, it's a sensational place to realize how public money builds wonders without giving satisfaction to the owner of this money. Other than that, it is really a work of great architectural beauty that can be used in a complete way and bring benefits to those who paid for this magnificent work. (Original) Um lindo, espetacular e caríssimo Elefante Branco.

Its greatest defect is that it has little to no real utility - in turn, it is part of the charm. It is designed on such a grandiose scale that it would need many thousands of visitors a day to feel alive, yet it has nothing to draw such crowds beyond a flabbergasting architecture. As a result, the handful of visitors that usually cruise through its main square can count on a rare opportunity. Feel themselves in something very much akin to one of de Chirico's "Metaphysic Plazas".

From afar it is stunning but once there you realise it is unfinished and not easily accessible. The signage is useless so you are not quite sure which car park is best for you, there are several. The slopes and distance from the car park make for a dangerous place for someone on a wheelchair.

(Translated by Google) With the new works to complete the project it is fantastic. A magnificent place to walk and enjoy the views of Santiago from there. The only downsides are the lack of bars or restaurants, craft shops and exhibitions that really hook many of us to go see them. In principle, the ones that exist have not attracted me. But I go for the place and the surroundings. I think so much building would be for what I suggest (Original) Con las nuevas obras para completar el proyecto esta fantastico.
